You cant see a software, you can only experience its output, and so is life. Software is the soul of

    hardware.

What is a hardware, without a software? What is a body without life in it?

You can see hardware and can measure the load on it and see it wear and tear, and so is human body.

How a software runs depends on the platform it runs. How our life passes depends on the society we

    live in.

How a hardware runs depends on the load it can handle, and how our body performs depends on the

    fitness it has.

So first things first. Health is Wealth and much more than that. Call it gym, yoga, morning walk,

jogging, dieting, fasting or whatever you can. Make sure a fitness mantra exists in your life.

No matter how good your software is, if the hardware fails or underperforms or is unable to bear the

load, then so does the software which comes down crashing. Similarly no matter how well planned or

well performing your life is, if you dont take care of your health, your life comes crashing down too.

You cant eat gold biscuits when you are hungry.

If you want the greatest performance from your software, then greatest should be your hardware too.

An odd combination of this causes the system to hang. And so if you want to achieve the greatest

heights in your life, then absolute fitness is a must for your body so that you dont waste your time byresting to overcome an illness. Time is precious, both for a software and for our life. Database

Software performance is measured based on how quickly it can run a complex query, and the

performance of our life is based on how quickly can we find answers to the most complex questions

or problems we face in life.

Make life configurable and alter yourself to accustom to your surroundings. The best of the breed

software which outlive others in terms of generations are the ones which not only run fast, but run

everywhere the cross platform ones which can run on a variety of platforms be it windows, linux,

macintosh like Java. So tomorrow even if one platform dies away the software still survives since it

can still run on other platforms. But if a software gets tied to a platform, then the death of the

platform would also measn death of the software. Similarly for you to survive always you should be

able to run in a variety of societies. Not just be a roman in rome, but slowly convert everyone in

    rome to be like you.

People, Governments all embrace Open Source Software with open arms, Not because they are

mostly free, but because they dont hide anything. To be liked by all, make your life an Open Source.

Not to mean give up your privacy, but to mean not to hide your thoughts. Be bold to speak up your

mind. But lo beware, most companies and businesses usually do not embrace open source software

quickly or readily since they usually dont have dedicated support. So does being open in life.

Established institutions and systems in life do not like revolts or revolutionary ideas. They hate those

who oppose the norms. So be careful to strike the balance. Make sure that the quality of the open

source software is so great that it doesnt requires any support at all. Make sure your thoughts aresolid, have great analysis and factual background. Then it will become a mass movement like

Mozilla and Linux. You will find institutions supporting you.

Thorough testing of a software is essential before releasing it to ensure success. Make sure the plans

in your life are carefully designed and validated before executing them. Sometimes a revolutionary

idea untested till then is used to create ground breaking software. The first database, the first

operating system, the first browser were all created by such untested ideas being tried. Most such

ideas failed, but the ones that clicked outshined the failures. So is life. Many a times you will have to

take chances to plan and design something which you havent done earlier in your life. It may or may

not succeed, but you will have to go by your gut feelings. The catch is to take calculated risks, even

though nobody can well define this term. Always keep asking yourself, when was the last time I tried

    something new?

Too much of memory load causes the software to crash and overloads the hardware. Do not allow

memory leaks or memory loads in your life. Past is past and it has to be quickly garbage collected as

soon as it goes out of your lifes current scope. Neither a software not can life handle too many

things at the same time. Each thread costs processor cycle, every byte in main memory occupiesvaluable RAM space. Only what is required for your current activity should be in the main memory

of your life. Dont let your life to be bogged down by unnecessary memory load by wasting your time

    worrying about the past happenings.

Too much of work overheats the hardware and will ultimately crash your system. All those carefully

built software will be of no use then. Too much of work overloads and kills your body, and no

amount of success you have achieved in life at the cost of your body will be able to save it. So just

like the way hardware has cooling systems, just like the way computers are shutdown, give your

body regular rest, have vacations, have fun. Software needs a restart and so does our life as and when

    necessary.

Sometimes we find that a software design is flawed and the entire software is then redesigned and

written from scratch. So does life sometimes requires a complete redesign and re-alignment of our

goals and we have to start from scratch. There are no hard and fast rules to develop a software as

long as it works as expected. You can use either a waterfall model or an extreme programming

approach or an incremental build life cycle. So is life. There are no hard and fast rules to succeed as

long as you enjoy what you are doing which is also the case of designing a software. If you want to

get something that you never had before, then do something that you had never done before.

No design is perfect and all software have bugs. But the catch is to fix a bug as soon as you find it.

The sooner the better. So is life, no design is perfect and you are bound to have issues or bugs no

matter how well you have planned it. But the one who succeeds sooner will be the one who addressesissues quicker.

No software will succeed if it is used to do something which it wasnt built for. A database server

shouldnt be used to serve web pages. There are webservers specially designed to do that job. A virus

scanner cannot be used as a firewall, nor a notepad be used to draw pictures. So is life. Do what you

know best, if you are a runner, run.. If you are a bell, ring. Do not waste your time and try to get back

to your taste as soon as possible if you arent already there.

Software has beta lifecycles. So should our life. Just like the way a software spends its life in

incubation to be tested before being released to the public, so should our life contain incubation

periods where we test our designs before making it public.

A software whose requirements and goals are not clearly defined during design is bound to go into

long never ending lifecycles of development and many a times so long that by the time it is ready it is

outdated and hence will never gets released. So is our life if we are not clear of where we are, where

we want to go, which is the best path for that and do I have time to go so far? Without these

considerations we will only go through our life, not grow through our life and will vanish without atrace.

    And Finally

Programming today is a race between software engineers stirring to build bigger and better idiot-

proof programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is

    winning.

Make no mistake about your mistakesThink about this. When you were a child still learning how to walk, how many times did you fall

before learning to stand straight? How many times did you fall before being able to ride your bicycle

for more than a minute without falling? If you had opted not to fall, could you have still opted to

stand or to ride the bicycle?

Sorry, there are no shortcuts to success. You learn swimming by swimming only. And making

mistakes is a part and parcel of the process of learning. Making mistakes is nothing but finding out

ways which simply dont work. When Edisons initial 10000 experiments failed before he finally

succeeded in inventing the electric bulb, instead of calling them failures he said, I have simply

found 10000 ways which wont work.

And hence, DO NOT look at failure as a failure, instead look at it as a step towards success. Infact a

success itself is not an end either. Each success is a milestone. There is always a next milestone to be

reached. And there are steps of about a mile long between two successes. These steps are nothing but

failures. So there is no shortcut to success. Infact there is no shortcut to any place worth going!

What is the difference between a mistake and a failure? Well, mistake is what you do the cause,

and failure is the outcome of that mistake the effect. But at the same time it is the failure which

many a times, infact most of the times is the cause for another well sought after effectsuccess.

So what do you need to convert your failure into success. Simple. Learn from it. For there are no

mistakes made in life, there are only lessons learnt, provided you dont repeat your mistakes. Atleast

repeat it differently. Life does not give a second chance many a times. At least not when skydiving. If

you dont succeed in the first attempt, then skydiving is definitely not for you

Did any of your friends tell you that they havent done any mistake at all? Well, yes it is possible,

provided they have never tried anything new. If you have done no mistakes in the past 2 years, then

you have wasted two precious years of your life. Now be cautious, making a mistake is not the sameas making a crime. Mistake is what you make without knowing that you are making a mistake. You

are not aware of the outcome and are trying out an action whose outcome goes against your

expectations, and then it becomes a mistake. Where as a crime is making a mistake, very well

    knowing about it.

So if I dont know that a person will be hurt if I slap him, then is that a crime or a mistake? Well, by

the definition of law it is a crime, but if you are so novice that you need a law to tell you that it is a

mistake, then you are simply not fit to make any mistakes. For your mistakes will be too costly for

    you

Now there is so much to learn in this world that I will need a hundred lives to make all the mistakes

on my own and learn from them! So please do learn from others mistakes also. The best place to

learn this would be to read autobiographies of great, the not so great, of all kind of personalities.

Because, each autobiography contains details of a life term of mistakes in it! Autobiographies of

people like Adolf HitlerMein Kempfcontain mistakes that didnt worka billion people suffered

from that. Autobiographies of people like Mahatma GandhiMy Experiments with Truthcontains

mistakes that did workthat made a billion people follow commands of a single mana man who

was half naked and had nothing except for the stick in his hand.

Did somebody tell you that his views about the world have not changed in the past twenty years?

Then, either he has experienced every damn thing in this world 20 years ago, or he has never learnt

anything new in the past 20 years. The former is a rare case, and most possibly it is the latter. As wegain more experience in life, so do our views keep changing. In fact changing would be an

inappropriate term for that. In reality our views would be upgrading or updating, for better or worse

depending on our surroundingsfriends and familyand the events that we encounter. A misguided

youth might become a terrorist from an innocent teenageror the same person might become a well

known scientistall depending on what happened to him and how he reacted to what happened to

    him.

But again, ideology is different from our views. We can stick to our ideology without changing it,

and that is definitely possible. I can stick for my lifetime to an ideology of saving this beautiful

nature from man-made pollution and to prevent the life on this planet from becoming extinct due to

man-made havocs. But my views on how to achieve that will keep changing constantly as the scope

    of my experience widens.

So mistakes are like a feedback loop. They give feedback about our actions that are not worth being

repeated. It is a process of learninglearning how not to walk by walking incorrectly, learning how

not to ride by driving wrongly, learning how not to solve a calculus problem by using a wrong

formulae, and in the process of making mistakes, understanding how things function. There are noexperts on this planets who havent made mistakes. And the greatest experts on this planet are those

who have made the largest number of mistakes, and hence have become experts by knowing all those

ways which do not work, and hence which they will not try again. A Gary Kasporov or a

Vishwanathan Anand became world chess champions by making almost all those wrong moves prior

    to achieving that title.

When we are born our brain is an empty database. And it is the mistakes that we make that enable us

to gather the information that we feed into our brain. Mistakes are not just limited to a single person.

A family, a society, a country, all learn from their mistakes. The reason we brush in the morning, the

reason we take bath, the reason we follow traffic rules, the reason our country has an army, the

reason we use passwords, the reason we have a democratic system, the reason stock market goes

down, the reason for a powercut, the reason UN came into existence, each of these have a history of

past lessons which the generations, people, societies, nations have learnt from their past mistakes.

History hence, should not be merely treated as just the past, but should be looked upon as lessons

from the past. And it applies not just for human history, but for individual history as well.

While your success shows you your strength. Your failures reveal your weakness to you. And hence

recognize your weakness from your failures. Its more important than knowing your strength.

Larry Ellison had no hesitation in admitting that he lacked the necessary skills to run a large sales

force and a large service organization. When he saw that his weakness in administrating Oracles

sales force resulted in Oracle losing $12 million in 1991, he simply appointed Ray Lane (whom hediscovered with the help of head hunters) as the COO (Chief Operating Officer) of Oracle in 1992

and handed over to him all the responsibilities of reorganizing Oracles sales force, rebuilding the

service operations and introducing strict management processes in Oracle. Larry Ellison limited

himself to what he knew he was really good at to build new products and to articulate the

companys vision. The result Oracle has not looked back since then.

Steve Jobbs, the Apple CEO, had no hesitation that Apples success needed its arch rival Microsofts

cooperation, and hence by saying Apple has to move beyond the point of view that for Apple to win,

Microsoft has to loseJobs invited Bill Gates without hesitation to acquire $150 million stake in

Apple and to enter its Board of Directors. Not everybody can do that. You should be really brave to

give up on your false egos. Giving up on our false ego is the best way to correct our mistakes without

having to make them in the first place. Even though SAP and Oracle are fierce competitors in the

ERP space, SAP still uses Oracles database as the backend for its enterprise suite. And thats

because SAP knows its strength and where to concentrate. It has no business building databases. Its

simply not their pie. False egos prevent us from realising our weakness and from utilising our

    strengths.

It is not the number of failures that we should be worried about. It should be the quality of ourattempts that we should be looking at irrespective of whether we fail or succeed. Look at a spider. No

matter how many times we destroy its web, it doesnt get angry, it doesnt cry, it doesnt give up, it

simply starts building a new web again from scratch. Now that has a great lesson in it. Never give up

and always be prepared to start your life from scratch. Which is why Abraham Lincoln, the great

American president succeeded in entering the white house, inspite of all his past failures .

Getting to the top is not difficult, what is really difficult is continuing to be at the top. And to be there

you should be aware of your strengths and weaknesses equally, and should be willing to give up your

false ego and take calculated risks.

And again finally, please dont mistake a crime to be a mistake. When you know that what you are

doing is wrong ,and yet do it, then it is no mistake, it is simply a crime, irrespective of whether

legally it is a crime or not. Nobody knows you better than your self. Be answerable to your self and

you will succeed in life. You dont have to be answerable to anybody else.

All the mistakes are waiting to be made. Good Luck.

The Definition of LifeEvery time God wanted to do something good to this world, he did not come here to do it by himself,

    instead he created a Child.

Thats how Einstein was born, Buddha was born, Swami Vivekanada was born, Lincon was born,Ilayaraja was born, Basavanna was born, and so are we all

So the idea of life is to identify that cause for which God created us and to accomplish the goal which

    has been assigned to us.

This is what the ancient Indian text Bhagavadgita tells us.. Do your duties towards the world

This is why I call Bhagavadgita the greatest psychological work ever written. I look at it more of as a

personality development book than a spiritual guide. It encourages every single human to become a

    great personality.

Sambhavaami Yuge Yuge- The great cycle of big bang and big crunch is ever repeating

    How does GOD helps us?

I have always believed that God helps only those who help themselves . It would be foolish on our

part to sit back and expect a miracle to happen in times of crisis. Most of us would also start

worrying unnecessarily imagining everything to go wrong and let our mind go blank.

Now I shall just ask you to look back at any one such incident in your life in which you almost went

panic (I am sure that all of us would have gone through AT LEAST one such incident in our lives. I

myself have gone through many). Now just have a look at the outcome of that incident. In 99% of the

cases the crisis would certainly have been sorted out with ease or at least without those outcomes

which you had IMAGINED to take place during the time of crisis.

Thus, it turns out that we unnecessarily get tensed and panic when we face a problem and start

imagining all odd things to take place which is completely baseless, as is always proved after the end

of the crisis. So, the lesson is dont panic and dont worry, instead start thinking about the possible

solutions and available options to solve the current crisis.

Those who trust in GOD pray to him during a crisis asking their GOD to help them out of the present

    situation.

    9/10

Is that right? Of course, Yes. there is nothing wrong in praying to GOD. It is not the question of

whether GOD exists or not, instead it has more to do with your psychological stress. This stress gets

eased out when you share it with somebody and GOD is the most IDEAL to do that.

There are a few who limit their efforts in solving the crisis only to praying and do nothing else to

solve the problem. This will never work out because as I said earlier, GOD helps only those who helpthemselves.

    Consider the following story:

Once there lived in a village a firm believer in GOD, who strongly believed that GOD shall always

help him out in times of crisis as he was a staunch devotee. Once it so happened that there were

heavy rains and the river on the bank of which the village situated overflowed and the entire village

began to submerge in the flood water.

All the villagers now started vacating the village as flood water started flowing into the streets first

and then into their houses. The neighbor of our devotee who was about to leave his house with his

family asked our devotee to join him. But our devotee refused to move out of his house saying that,

he believed a lot in GOD and was sure that GOD would never allow him to die in the flood water and

would certainly come to save him. The neighbor left the village with his family and so did all other

    villagers except our devotee.

Soon, the flood waters entered the ground floor of his house and he was forced to move to the first

floor of his house. After a while a local rescue boat came in search of those who were still trappedinside their houses and on seeing our devotee still inside his house, the man on the boat asked our

devotee to join them. Again, our devotee refused to budge. He still believed that GOD would

certainly arrive to help him. The rescue boat left the place.

As the water level increased our devotee moved up to the terrace of his house. There he started

staring at the skies expecting GOD to arrive any time. As he was staring the skies, a rescue helicopter

arrived this time and on seeing our devotee standing on the roof top of his house, the man inside the

helicopter offered to throw a rope down and rescue the devotee out of the increasing flood waters.

Yet, again our devotee refused to give up saying, GOD shall not let me down. The helicopter too

    left the place.

The flood water level just kept increasing till our devotee finally drowned and died. After his death,

the devotee went to the GOD and questioned him with anger, GOD, I believed in you so much. I

was your greatest devotee throughout my life. Yet, you did not come to save me during the time of

my crisis and today Im dead. Why didyou do this to me?

  • 7/28/2019 Motivational Articles Good to Read

    10/10

What?, asked the surprised GOD to the devotee, How can you say that I didnt help you, when I

indeed did come to your rescue.

Now is was our devotees turn to be surprised. He asked, When did you come to save me GOD?.

GOD replied, First I came to rescue you as your neighbor, but you refused my help. Then again, I

came in a boat hoping to pull you out of the flood water, but again you refused my help. Finally, as a

last ditch effort I came in a helicopter to save you. Again you refused my help. What else did youexpect me to do?.

The moral of the above story is that, do not expect miracles to happen in times of trouble as our

devotee did. Because, GOD helps only those who help themselves.

In the above statement can be seen an ancient Hindu belief Aham Brahmasmi, which means I am

the GOD in Sanskrit. When we say GOD helps only those who help themselves, it really means

that we ought to be our own GOD. Self is the architect of the Self.

When a Hindu says Aham Brahmasmi (Self is the GOD), it doesnt mean the individual I with a

selfish attitude. Instead the I represents the selfless I who is unified with the entire universe. A Hindu

believes that GOD pervades the entire universe and an individual being a part of the universe is a part

    of the GOD himself!

If we just have a closer look at ourselves, we can always see and experience the universal I who has

always been there within us and guiding us in times of crisis. Some also call it the inner conscience.

What really matters is, how much do we listen to the GOD within us? The more we listen to him,

the less likely are we to face problems and even if we do face one, the more likely are we to get outof it.

In the above storyline for instance, the devotee did indeed listen to the GOD within him, but to a

smaller extent, that he kept moving up the stairs as the water level increased. But he did not listen to

the GOD within beyond that, else he would have been saved from that unnecessary death.

Let us not make the same mistake.
