Resettlement Service

IntroductionIf you are moving into a new house, theResettlement Team can provide you withthe help and support you need to set uphome. If you are an existing StockportCouncil tenant, the Tenancy SupportService can help you maintain yourtenancy.

Aims of Resettlement and TenancySupport•• To support you through a major change in lifestyle.

• To make sure that your accommodation is suitable, you can cope with it, and you’re settling into the community.

• To co-ordinate the support you get from us with support from other agencies.

• To prevent your tenancy breaking down.• To prevent the cycle of homelessness, supporting you to keep your tenancy.

Do I qualify for Resettlement?You can apply if you are a tenant of StockportCouncil, a Registered Social Landlord (RSL), ora private landlord, and you are in one of thefollowing groups:

Resettlement Service

• care leavers;• lone teenage parents;• young people (up to 21) in a firsttenancy;

• refugees;• people fleeing domestic violence;• single homeless people;• homeless families;• new tenants;• people with learning difficulties;• people with mental health problems;• people with drug problems; or• people with alcohol problems.

Our service could be available for you if youneed support for one or more of these reasons.

Do I qualify for Tenancy Support?

You can apply if you are a Stockport Counciltenant and you are having difficulty coping withyour tenancy.

What services do you offer?• advice on housing options;• help in viewing a home*;• help with form filling - for example, Housing Benefit andCommunity Care Grants;

• help with getting or storing

furniture and household goods;• advice on budgeting and housekeeping;

• advice on benefits;• liaison with other organisationsand agencies;

• advice on training and education;

Plus these speciality schemes:*• Mediation scheme• Rent Bond schemeFor details, just ask at our office.

How will you help me?

• You’ll have an experienced Officer to help with all housingneeds.

• You and the Officer will work outa support plan and put it inwriting.

• We’ll provide a package of visitsand support, and check everymonth that it still meets yourneeds.

• A drop-in service at the temporary accommodationschemes*; and

• A general drop-in service every afternoon at our office at 1 St.

• We will always take your viewsinto account, as we aim to helpyou decide what serviceand support you need, andprovide it from day one.
