Requirements of MS-PW OAM

From “Requirements for inter domain Pseudo-Wires”(draft-martini-pwe3-mh-pw-requirements-01.txt):

In-band monitoring SHOULD be provided both end-to-end across the MS-PW, and on a segment (i.e. SS-PW) basis.

The MS-PW SHOULD support a Forward Defect Indicator (FDI).

All PE routers along the MS-PW MUST agree on a common PW OAM mechanism to use to the MS-PW.

The S-PE should be able to behave as a segment endpoint for PW OAM mechanisms.

The S-PE MUST be able to pass U-PE to U-PE PW OAM messages transparently.

OAM capability indication

Total Seven OAM capability:

0x01 ICMP Ping (predefined in [VCCV]) 0x02 LSP Ping (predefined in [VCCV]) 0x04 BFD for PW Fault Detection only (predefined in [VCCV]) 0x08 BFD for PW Fault Detection and AC/PW Fault Status Signaling (predefined in [VCCV]) 0x10 FDI 0x20 SEG OAM 0x40 E2E OAM

Problems:The length of CV type field is 8 bit, which limit the number of OAM capability indication.

Distinguishing of E2E OAMand SEG OAM

T: Indicates the segment type of OAM packet.

T = 0 indicates it is SEG OAM packet.

T = 1 indicates it is E2E OAM packet.

F: Indicates the FDI type of OAM packet. F = 0 indicates it is not a FDI packet.

F = 1 indicates it is a FDI packet.
