Dear Readers,

Global warming and future electric power shortages

have a special significance for Multi-Contact, for as sup-

pliers of high-quality, innovative contact elements we

are confronted with both problems: Day in, day out, mil-

lions of our Multilams give absolutely reliable service in

power generation, and with our MC3 and MC4 plugs, ca-

bles and junction boxes we are an acknowledged market

leader in the photovoltaic sector.

In 2007 our sales benefited enormously from our leading

position in these markets. Our turnover rose by 30% to

a record figure of CHF 210 million. Unfortunately, this

development resulted in shortages in the supply of cer-

tain product lines.

Although we greatly increased our capacity, we did not

fully succeed in keeping up with demand. We should like

to apologise for the delays in delivery that occurred, and

thank our business associates for their understanding

and confidence.

In addition to the measures that have already been initi-

ated, we have decided to make further investments to

augment production capacity: We shall be greatly ex-

panding our production unit in Essen and moving into

new premises. That means that from November 2008 we

shall be able to assemble PV plugs, junction boxes and

cables in large volumes.

In addition to investments in plant and equipment, we

continue to focus on the development of new products.

From this year we shall have at our disposal the Multilam

“LA-CUD”, which is designed for optimum power density.

The CombiTac module “CT-RJ45”, our “Robfix” for weld-

ing robots, the “Cliplam” and “HP-GSRD” for railway ap-

plications, and panel junction boxes, are further

innovations that will come on to the market this year.

We attach the utmost importance to being close to the

customer. For that reason, in the current year we shall

again strongly expand both technical and marketing sup-

port. We aim to maintain our leading position in existing

markets and build up and expand our position in young

or new markets such as China, India or Eastern Europe.

This year, the Chinese market will become the 5th most

important for MC in terms of sales revenue. And when

the Summer Olympics open in China, MC plugs on emer-

gency power units will ensure that TV viewers can enjoy

watching records being broken even if there is a sudden

mains failure.

We have extensive plans for 2008 in order still better to

serve our customers. Our team will do its utmost to en-

sure that MC maintains its leading position for you in the

future.

To meet the demands of the booming photovoltaic mar-

ket, Multi-Contact is investing in a new production and

office building in Essen.

The principal strategic objectives behind the move are the

centralisation of PV cable assembly (Ø 3mm / Ø 4mm

range and future types) and the development of new PV

products close to the place of production.

For all fields together (PV-, Test & Measure- and

Cableline), the partly four-storied building has a total floor

area of more than 10,000 sq.m.

It is planned to install a photovoltaic system of approx.

200kW on the roof of the production plant.

The whole of PV production will be relocated to the new

building during 2008.

located and have very good transport

connections.

MC-France competence centre

for railway applications

MC France has taken on a leading role within the MC

group in the field of railway applications. Last year,

under the direction of Frédéric Schull, various railway

projects were implemented and new products

developed.

In future, the MC companies and agencies can bene-

fit from the know-how of the MC France competence

centre with regard to all business and technical mat-

ters and the development of innovative concepts for

railway customers.

With the introduction of standard IEC

60364-7-712 for PV systems, a load disconnect-

ing switch on the DC side became compulsory

in 2006.

In collaboration with the customer, MC has de-

veloped a disconnecting plug which interrupts

the flow of current when withdrawn and acti-

vates an electric circuit which prevents the arc-

ing that would otherwise occur on unplugging.
