This is the second time Quebec City has earned this honour in our polling, having placed first (51%) in November 2011. Other cities which place in the top five overall include Burnaby BC (42%), Mississauga ON (39%), Sherbrooke QC (38%) and Oakville ON (37%). Burnaby has improved its score since last year (from 37% to 42%), as has Sherbrooke (34% to 38%), Richmond BC (22% to 27%), Gatineau QC (15% to 23%), Edmonton AB (17% to 21%), Hamilton ON (15% to 19%) and Winnipeg MB (11% to 15%). Canada's largest cities do not fare well on the overall measure. Toronto sports an overall satisfaction with services score of 20%, well below the average for all cities of 25%. Quebec City tops poll of city services second year

in a row

Burnaby, Mississauga, Sherbrooke, Oakville round out top five

Toronto, May 29th, 2012 – In a sampling of opinion taken by The Forum Poll™

among Canadians 18 years of age and older who are residents of Canada's 30

largest cities, Quebec City topped the list for satisfaction with city services, both

overall (52% very satisfied) and for almost all individual services. This is the

second time Quebec City has earned this honour in our polling, having placed

first (51%) in November 2011.

Other cities which place in the top five overall include Burnaby BC (42%),

Mississauga ON (39%), Sherbrooke QC (38%) and Oakville ON (37%).

Burnaby has improved its score since last year (from 37% to 42%), as has

Sherbrooke (34% to 38%), Richmond BC (22% to 27%), Gatineau QC (15% to

23%), Edmonton AB (17% to 21%), Hamilton ON (15% to 19%) and Winnipeg MB

(11% to 15%).

Once again, Quebec City (45%) had the highest satisfaction for public transit

services, followed by Laval (37%), and Burnaby (35%). Halifax and Ottawa scored

lowest (12% and 15%, respectively).

Quebec City and Sherbrooke had the best ratings for public library services (74%

and 73%), and Laval (64%) had the third best score. Vaughan and Sudbury had

the worst scores (44% each).

For zoo services, Calgary had the highest score (40%), with Saskatoon (35%), and

Toronto (33%) following. Montreal had the lowest satisfaction (28%).

Quebec City had the best rating for public health services (39%), with Sherbrooke

and Oakville falling closely behind (37% each), and Mississauga (31%) rated third

best. Sudbury had the worst score (14%).

Quebec City also had the highest score for social services (43%), followed by

Sherbrooke (35%), and Longeuil (32%). Sudbury and Winnipeg tied for the lowest

rating (14%).

For road maintenance and repair, Oakville had the highest satisfaction (31%).

Burnaby and Brampton also received notably high scores (27% and 26%,

respectively). Sudbury had by far the most room for improvement (3%).

For community centres, Quebec City had the best rating (54%), next best was

Oakville (49%), and Sherbrooke (46%). Again, Sudbury had the lowest score

(14%).

Quebec City scored highest for parks and recreation services (63%), Sherbrooke

(54%) and Oakville (53%) followed. Satisfaction for Sudbury (19%) was well

below that of other cities.

Quebec City was also on top for snow plowing services (41%), with Oakville

(40%) and Longeuil (37%) not far behind. Sudbury received the worst score

(14%).

For property taxes and municipal service fees, Quebec City had the greatest

rating (20%). Laval (15%) was second best, and Sherbrooke and Oakville tied for

third place (14%). Sudbury (3%) and Vaughan (4%) had exceptionally low scores.

"It is clear that satisfaction with the services cities offer is higher in the smaller

centres, and you might find the best quality of life in a mid-sized regional capital,

Methodology

The Forum Poll™ was conducted by Forum Research with the results based on an

interactive voice response telephone survey of 12,319 randomly selected

residents aged 18 or older of the following Canadian cities: Toronto, Ottawa,

Winnipeg, Quebec, Halifax, Markham, Longeuil, Burnaby, Richmond, Richmond

Hill, Montreal, Edmonton, Vancouver, Brampton, Laval, Gatineau, Windsor,

Saskatoon, Oakville, Sudbury, Calgary, Mississauga, Hamilton, Surrey, London,

Vaughn, Kitchener, Regina, Burlington, and Sherbrooke. The poll was conducted

on May 16-27th

, 2012.

Results based on the total sample are considered accurate +/- 0.88%, 19 times

out of 20. Subsample results will be less accurate. Margins of error for subsample
