    How the Mural Was Commissioned

I was doing a PGCE this course which required me to do somepractical observation in primary and secondary school.

I had a fantastic welcome in Roath Primary school and felt sogreat! I suddenly had an urge to giving away one of my paintings

inspired by a nursery rhyme, The Little Old Lady Who Lived In AShoe, so I decided to donate it to the school.

The Headmaster asked me about creating a mural on a playgroundwall. I looked at it, but at that time I did not see it.

When I came back from summer vacation, he asked me again andI looked at the wall and this time, I could visualize it.

That was when I knew I could do it. I saw the mural on that walland I agreed to paint it!

    My Concerns

Wall is massive, will have to rent scaffolding.

    What materials, paints, varnish?

I found out the best way was to use masonrypaint, as it is formulated for masonry surfacesand to withstand the weather.

If I used varnish, the water would filterbetween the paint and the varnish.

    How to Apply the Paint?

I was concerned about using blended colours for the mural. My plan was to have each part of the design numbered for acorresponding flat colour. I needed a machine to mix them, because each came in 5 litre containers. I bought liquidpigments and mixed the shades myself.

For the Simpsons painting, the artist has mostly used flat colours.

It was foggy, butnot too cold.

Working high upon a scaffold waskind of scary.
