Get ready for an exciting murder mystery party! This party is an intriguing mystery game where the players act the roles of interesting personalities while sleuthing the captivating storyline. This is an excellent choice for your next get together! PREPARING YOUR KIT: The party pack (this document) needs to be printed in advance of the party. Cut out the clue cards, slip them into envelopes labeled with the appropriate round and character for each round of the party. It is optimal to choose different colored envelopes for each round and you can purchase the exact amount needed for your game on the http://mymysteryparty.com/props/ site in the Mystery Prop Emporium section. For economy’s sake, an alternative is to scroll the clues and fasten with a ribbon. Be sure to label the outside of each scroll with the character/round. We demonstrate how to do this in our instructional videos at www.mymysteryparty.com/videos In these instructions, however, we will assume you are using the envelope method for each character, each round.

UPGRADE YOUR DOWNLOAD IF YOU WISH TO KEEP THE MYSTERY A SURPRISE: For a complete surprise, you can elect the pre-printed ‘party ready’ party pack option from the http://mymysteryparty.com/upgrade-your-download/ site, and we will prepare your game for you. We send you the clues in labeled envelopes and the rest of prepared game documents –‘ready to go.’ For a chart that explains the differences between the two versions of this game: Click here or to go the Party Ready Pack page on our site to find the link.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED IN THE

PURCHASED GAME. OPTIONAL PROPS: We also offer mystery props on the My Mystery Party site in the Prop Emporium including a thunderstorm ambiance 10 minute sound wav to play in the background, crime scene barrier tape, crime scene balloons, mystery investigation pens, white face makeup for the victim, victim t-shirts, victim’s halo, chalk line body silhouette and even instrumental rap beats as a downloadable mp3 for the optional but highly suggested bonus game rap contest. We sell envelope packs in different colors for the 4 rounds. There is a ‘Do You Think You Can You Dance’ mp3 track for the Do You Think You Can Dance challenge as well. Feel free to set up a mock crime scene using the crime scene tape, body silhouette mat and evidence marker cards available at our prop store. However, only set up the crime scene after the victim is unveiled and do not use for sleuthing – it’s just for a fun effect and photo opportunity for your guests. Again, in the 1920s, the police likely only used rope to mark off a crime scene, but if you wish to ignore that – go full out with your crime scene if you wish! GAME STRUCTURE: The game is organized into four rounds and is structured as follows:

these optional pre-game tasks are to be delivered to each guest before the party or OPTIONAL PRE-GAME TASKS: give them to the guests as they arrive. All pre-game materials are optional and do not alter the mystery and are intended to enhance the pre-game build up for the event. These tasks are not vital to solving the mystery and omission of them does not alter the mystery in any way. Also, encourage your guests to view the Your Mystery Party - http://yourmysteryparty.com/boardwalk website to get them excited about your game (this has shown to decrease the number of no-shows to your party).

Deliver these clues as your guests arrive. APPETIZER (COCKTAILS 4 ADULTS) HOUR / ROUND ONE: Deliver these clues while you serve dinner (optional) to your guests. DINNER HOUR / ROUND TWO:

DESSERT, AND THE BIG REVEAL/ SOLUTION ROUND THREE: Deliver these clues with coffee/hot cocoa and dessert.

Note: you do NOT have to serve dinner, this is only suggested, and the instructions tell you ‘when’ to serve it and what to do around the time you serve it. You also do not have to serve dessert – again, it is only a suggestion. You can simply skip both without a problem and just serve snacks/appetizers the entire time.

ASSIGNING CHARACTERS: you assign the character roles – do not send your guests the invites or link to the guest pre-game site and have them choose their characters. This is far too much work, confusing for everyone, and nearly impossible for them to all choose a separate character and fill in your required player spots. You assign the players from the host character list in this file. First, fill in your required spots with your most outgoing and dependable players. Then, use the optional players in any combination. They won’t know they were optional, however, so no worries. If you have time, it’s great to send a ‘save the date’ email/card at least a month before your party. That way, you can see if your intended date will work for you to have enough players. No time for that? No problem! Just text your closest invitees and ensure they’re able to attend so you can assign them to a required player. If you are hosting this for an event and will not be familiar with the guests, you will likely have enough players to play, so this is a moot point, as well. INVITING GUESTS: Before the party, encourage your guests to view this mystery on the guest invite site at www.YourMysteryParty.com/boardwalk website and use the My Mystery Party invitations as they have each of the characters included. This way, before the party, they can get familiar with their character they are to play at the party. The invitations are located on the page where you purchased this game – click on the link that says ‘free, printable invitation’ to download. Using the Your Mystery Party site and doing the pre-game tasks in advance of the game have shown to reduce ‘no-shows’ to the party. The free, downloadable invitation is among the files you can download with your purchase. They are also located on the page where you purchased the game http://mymysteryparty.com/1920s-murder-mystery-party-on-the-boardwalk/ Scroll to the center of the page under the helpful links section and click on the link that says ‘free, downloadable invitation’ to download the PDF file. Important – you must first save to your hard drive. Reopen with the most current version of Adobe Reader, or you may face issues. If you have Adobe Acrobat, you can use the text fields - fill in your information in the text fields and either print or save to your hard drive. You can email these invites to your guests to save paper costs. You will need to enter your information in the text field and save one on your hard drive for each player, changing the character to be played on each invitation.

The game can be shortened by excluding the optional activities, or lengthened by adding more bonus games.

7:00 PM: Guests arrive, have their pictures made (optional) and receive a refreshment/cocktail for adults. The guests will view the guest instructions and character list while they wait for everybody to arrive. The host should build in at least a 10-minute cushion for guests to arrive late. Hey, it happens. 7:10 PM: The host reads the guest instructions to the group. It is optional to have each guest introduce their character in front of the group. Play the video game trailer on Your Mystery Party for your game &/or read the game synopsis from Your Mystery Party to the group to give the premise.

7:20 PM: The Round One envelopes are handed out, and the game begins. The guests mingle and reveal the clues on their clue cards. It’s just like a normal party, but the guests remain in character and gossip about each other’s characters. The motives & storylines will start to unveil. 7:50 PM: An optional bonus game is played. Bonus activities keep the energy flowing, and the guests have a blast. They are optional but highly suggested. The players must remain in character. 8:05 PM: Optional to serve dinner. Dinner can be sit down or buffet – or even as simple as a pizza that’s delivered! You can also just serve appetizers/snacks during the party. 8:35 PM: The Round Two envelopes are handed out to the guests, and pre-murder clues are discussed. 8:55 PM: The victim becomes the victim, and the host passes out the investigation sheets to the players. The guests interrogate each other to determine whodunit. The full story is in the player clue cards, but the guests will have to be skilled at asking the right questions of each other, etc. 9:10 PM: The fingerprint analysis report is revealed, and within ~5-10 minutes, everybody submits their formal guess of whodunit. 9:20 PM: Optional accusation round – the guests can take turns formally accusing who they think did it, and why. You’ll be surprised at how everybody’s inner actor will surface during this activity. 9:30 PM: Dessert and coffee (optional) are served, and the Round Three envelopes are handed out to the guests. The guests sit in a circle and one-by-one, the solutions are revealed by each of the guests and the murderer will confess at the conclusion of the round. The murderer is notified in their round three solution card that they are the murderer. They will not know or have any advantage over anybody of knowing whodunit before this round. *If you do not opt to have the optional players read their final solutions in front of the group, give them a few minutes to mingle and share their solutions after the murderer confesses. 9:50 PM: An optional bonus game is played. 10:10 PM: An optional award ceremony. My Mystery Party has award certificates of all kinds that you can purchase in the Prop Emporium. The host can determine who receives the awards while the bonus game is being played. Some awards are traditional and some are snarky but hilarious! 10:30 PM: Game over!

We hope you have a fabulous time at your party. If you have a fun time, please share your success story and pics on our Facebook Page (My Mystery Party) and we will be glad to show

ROUND ONE CLUES – CUT OUT, SLIP INTO ENVELOPES AND LABEL WITH THE CHARACTER AND ROUND.

EACH PLAYER WILL HAVE A ROUND ONE CLUE CARD.

NAMES REMOVED TO MINIMIZE SPOILERS.

CLUES TO REVEAL DURING THIS ROUND You don’t like living in New York and being part of the

New York Mafia. They are a very dysfunctional organization, and you would rather be part of the Chicago Mob. (Don’t tell anybody from New York how you feel, however.)

Tell Character L you know he doesn’t want to allow you to join his mob, but he should at least give it a little consideration. You are an excellent sharpshooter, and you will put your skills to the test any day so he can see how good you are as a gun moll.

See what the other gun molls think about a woman’s place in a mob organization. Maybe when The Commission is created at this conference, you can push a woman to be one of the leaders. Why not you?

PERSONAL CLUES TO CONCEAL Characer L believes girls belong in the kitchen. He

sees no real place in any mob organization for a female. You want to prove him wrong. However, you would rather that Character K take over as crime boss of Chicago, as he’ll probably let you join the Chicago Mob. You cannot afford to be caught talking to Character T about this, as you don’t want to be bumped off for being a traitor.

You are a gun moll from the New York Mafia. You can do anything the guys do – and better!

ROUND 2 CLUES – cut out, slip into envelopes and label with the character and round.

Character P - ROUND TWO Pre-Murder Clues

• Talk to your aunt about the rumors that she’s an unfaithful dame. You know she would never be a traitor – you’ll have her back if Character O ever decides to believe the rumor and tries to whack her.

• Ask around to see whom everybody thinks will be voted as the leader of The Commission.

• Talk to Character B about her uncle’s murder. You heard he was a sheriff in NYC who was murdered by mobsters.

• Tell anybody you trust that you are highly irate at Character Q for not giving you a chance with the Chicago Mob. Now, you are at a risk of being whacked when your Character H finds out that you were trying to be a rat and move to Chicago.

• Speak to Character B about why she wants to break up with Character V.

Post-Murder Evidence & Alibi Character G wasn’t in the ballroom at the time of the

murder. You don’t think you ever touched the murder weapon.

If your fingerprints are found on it, you’ll have no reason to explain why they are there.

You never left the Magnolia Ballroom. Character O didn’t leave the ballroom during the time of

the murder.

EACH PLAYER WILL HAVE A ROUND TWO CLUE CARD. NAMES REMOVED TO MINIMIZE SPOILERS.
