People from all over the world looked at them as trend setters and just wanted more of them and fashion was another way to become more like the Beatles. London was asked to host with short noticed and pulled through. The 1948 games were t the very beginning of when the Cold War began and the tension between America and the USSR. People gathered saying that the country needed to be at peace and stop fighting, Hippies were a big part of the war they hated it and didnt want to fight anymore. They were sometimes very crude to those who fought. These rebels had other gatherings as well including Summer of Love. Woodstock was when some Americans didn'tt support their men fighting for them and was considered some what of a loss of patriotism. Web. 23 Apr Elvis was drafted into the tank division to help in the Berlin Crisis, the East Germans saw Elvis as a threat and created types of anti- Elvis movements including Lipsi. A type of dancing that required a partner and was like a rumba/ waltz. The dance could not be performed with singles and was a set rule. Propaganda was used to promote the Lipsi but could not replace Elvis. Elvis soon asked, What the hell are we doin this for anyway?, with no reply. Elvis was very much against the war. Elvis was also great help in Germany when tried to to help overcome widespread German unease over the rearmament of West Germany. Elvis returned home 1960 and went straight to work. The things the East Germans did to try and stop him remain a complete failure to his rock and roll. It had a model come out with the same outfit portraying it as evening, swim, and day wear. The Soviets were astonished from the pure mockery and didnt respond. The USSR tried to cut them short on practice time and other things to try to distract them from the game but it did not work Canada won and went home the honor of beating the Soviets. He was then shot in the death strip by Rolf Friedrich and Erich Schreiber. After an hour guards retreived his body. They were later charged with manslaughter and were convicted. Nelson Mandela was arrested for defying the government and sentenced to life he finally was freed later on, but his heroic character helped South Africa over come its hardship of discrimination. Since then the students kept running into trouble with the police and finally they took charge and began to rebel. They wanted all criminal charges against arrested students be dropped, the police leave the university, and the authorities reopen Nanterre and Sorbonne. Negotiations broke down, and students returned to their campuses after a false report that the government had agreed to reopen them, only to discover the police still occupying the schools. The students now had a near revolutionary fervor. They made barricades and tearing up the whole city. Finally after awhile the communist agreed to the elections.
