Chapter 1

The bright sun came through my windows in the morning. I looked around only

to see the unfamiliar room. I still wasn’t used to my new home, even though I washere for two weeks. All of the furniture had light wood, a pine color. A huge closet,

big dresser, vanity, my own balcony, and my queen sized bed. I stretched very slowly,

put my new contacts in, and then walked to my new bathroom. I looked in the mirror,

the only thing I recognized were my almost white blue eyes. Then I brushed my teeth

slowly. I took a quick shower then blow dried and straightened my newly dyed blonde

hair. I walked back into my room to find an outfit for the new day. I ended up wearing

my black t-shirt with baby blue polka dots and white skinny jeans with a little baby

blue and white bow in my hair, to match my outfit. Then I walked back into the

bathroom to put on my mascara, eye shadow and eye liner. When I was done, I

grabbed my bag and walked downstairs to eat breakfast.

“Good morning, Aurelia.” My mother smiled. I recently moved to Los Angeles,

California to live with my mother, Marie, she’s a big time actress who was in tons of

movies. Not many kids of actors and actresses go to the school I’m going to. My

parents were divorced and my father died earlier in the summer. So, I moved in with

my mother and my baby sister Liliana was in New York with my father’s sister for a

couple of weeks, my aunt and my mother were close friends.

“Morning, what’s for breakfast?”

“I made eggs, bacon, toast, and orange juice. I hope you’re hungry.” Marie

doesn’t like the idea of a cook in the house. She likes to make breakfast for me every

morning, though she has maids to clean.

“It all looks great.” I sat down quickly and ate eager to get out of my house. I

finished my breakfast slowly and then walked to the front door to get my old

Converses. My mom felt that it was necessary to get me a brand new car, not like it

would make the slightest dent in her bank account, for my new school.

I could feel my mother’s on my back as I walked to the garage to my brand new

black BMW convertible. She watched me back out of the driveway to school and shewaved to me. I waved back.

As I pulled into the parking lot, the security guard stopped me.

“Welcome Miss Esposito. I am here to show you to your parking space.” I knew

my mother had done something to get me a special parking space away from everyone

else except her friend’s kids. I followed his directions to the parking lot around the

back of the school. When I pulled back there, I saw about twenty other cars, all of

them either Honda’s or Mercury’s or some other brand I didn’t know. I was the only

BMW in the whole lot.

A woman waited for me to get me to get other of the car.

“Hello. I am Ms. Johnson. I am here to help you around the school today.” She

spoke quietly and softly.

“Thank you. I think I’m going to need help getting to my first class. It’s English

in room 1608.”

“I’ll walk you there.” She was very polite.

I walked into the classroom and walked up to the teacher’s desk.

“Hi, I’m Ms. Greene. I would imagine your Aurelia Esposito, right?”

“Yes, I am.”

She smiled. “Your seat is last in the middle row, unless you would like a seat

closer to the front?”

“No, no. It’s fine.”

“Oh okay. Then take your seat.” She laughed quietly.

I walked slowly down the aisle and heard whistles from guys and “wows’ fromgirls. I sat down quickly, blushing and keeping my head down.

The whole time, everyone stared at me. The class seemed to drag on for hours.

And finally, the bell rang. I jumped up, shoved my books into my small bag and ran

towards the door. I made it out of the door before most kids. Ms. Johnson was waiting

for me outside the classroom.

“Your next class is Science. Follow me.”

“Actually, can you just tell me how to get there? I don’t want to be rude but, I

don’t want special treatment.”

“Sure. Just walk down this hallway and up the steps. Then turn down the

hallway to your left and the classroom is 2209.” She smiled.

“Thank you.” I walked down the hallway. I felt my iPhone vibrate in my pocket.

I ignored it for the most part and kept on walking.

I was almost the last one in my classroom. I walked up to my teacher, Mr.

Tresser, and took my seat at the left lab table next to a boy with straight, jet black

hair that came down to his shoulders. He smiled at me and I grinned back then looked

away.

Right then, Mr. Tresser started with the back-to-school-end-of-summer speech.Every now and then I would glance at the boy next me. I saw him doing the same

thing I was. His eyes were peaking at me sideways. Only he was smiling at me,

showing his perfect white teeth. I quickly focused on the teacher and raised my hand.

“May I go to the bathroom?” I was rushing to get the words out.

“Yes. Now, how was everyone’s summer?” I half-ran of the classroom to get the

girl’s bathroom pass. Then I heard a boy’s voice come out of the classroom asking if

he could use the bathroom, too. I kept on walking down the hallway slowly, so I could

see who it was.

“Can I ask where you’re going?” he asked. I turned around to see the boy that I

was sitting next to in the middle of the hallway watching me.

“Well I thought I was going to the bathroom.” I was confused.

“What I mean is that you’re going the wrong way.”

“Oh.”

He laughed. “I’ll show you.” I walked back to him. He watched me the whole

time as I walked next to him.

“I’m Ian. How ‘bout you?” he grinned.

I looked at his bright blue eyes and then focused on his whole face. “A-Aurelia,

um, Aurelia Esposito, actually.” I could hear the shock in my voice, I was sure he

could, too.

“Isn’t your mom Marie Esposito?” His expression turned excited.

I sighed. “Yeah.”

He looked at me confused and then pushed his eye brows together. “You don’t

like you mom?”

“No, that’s not it at all. I just... I don’t like that people know me as her

daughter and not me, just me. That’s how everyone knows me here and I just want to

be Aurelia Esposito, not Marie Esposito’s daughter Not that I don’t like being her

3

daughter, I mean I don’t like to be known as her daughter…” I hoped my explanation

didn’t confuse him even more.

“Oh, I see. Then from now on, I’ll know you as Aurelia, not as Marie Esposito’s

daughter.” He smiled. I noticed we stopped in front of the bathrooms but I didn’t

move. I kept on looking into his eyes. And he looked away. It snapped me out of mytrance. I flushed and walked into the bathroom. I stood in front of the mirror and

pulled out my phone. “Message from Raquel” is what it read. A huge smile appeared

on my face and then sighed when she brought up that I wasn’t in New York City

anymore.

Hey girlie, how’s Cali doing??

Fine, I guess. Everyone’s acting all special to me though. It’s pretty annoying.

Raquel is my best friend, even though she still lives in New York. I put my

phone back in my pocket and looked back in the mirror and fixed my hair, then

walked out of the bathroom. I saw Ian leaning on the wall, waiting for me. A smile

went from one ear to the other on his face.

“I guess you could have taken longer, right?” he joked.

I laughed. “Much longer.” We started back down the hallway. He asked me

questions about my summer, my old friends, and a lot of other things. He was

probably about 6 feet tall so, I had to look up to answer his questions, me being a

little size of 5 feet. When he asked about my father, I could feel tears starting to

come in my eyes and one silently fell down my face. The pictures of my father ranthrough my head over and over again: his perfect smile, his sense of humor, his big

bear hugs and then him with a cigarette in his between his lips and the last one, him

laying in the coffin at the funeral.

“I’m really sorry.” His smile faded away and bent down to me a hug. I hesitated

then hugged him back. He pulled away to look at my face with tears coming down and

then we walked back to class silently, a few tears still coming down my face. I used

my hand to wipe them away, hoping my mascara wouldn’t run. We walked into the

room together with many kids watching us. I sat down next to him and then about ten

minutes later, the bell rang. I didn’t bother to wait for him.

The rest of the day seemed long and then once I got to lunch, my last class, I

was starving. I bought a salad and water. I saw Ian waving his hands in the air. I

walked over to his table.

“Do you want to sit with me?” I could tell he really wanted me to sit with him.

I looked at the others at the table and their jaws were open.

4

“Yeah. I mean, if your friends don’t mind.”

“No they don’t mind!” he grinned. I sat down in the empty seat next to him.

The girl across from me watched me as I stabbed a piece of lettuce and put it into my

mouth. She had long curly black hair with tan skin.

“Hi. My name’s Danielle. You’re Aurelia Esposito, right?” I put up one finger as I

finished chewing my food. I swallowed and looked back at her.

“Yes, I am.” And then I felt my phone vibrate again. I pulled it out. I was

Raquel again.

Oh that’s right cause of your mom. Are there any hot guys there???

I laughed and looked next to me and Ian was grinning at me. He was reading

over my shoulder, I could tell.

I haven’t really talked to many people yet. I only met one guy in my science

class. He’s really nice and he’s reading over my shoulder so I have to say something

nice about him. Ahah

I turned back to him and he was looking at me. I hadn’t pressed send yet. He

reached his hand over me to press the send button. I didn’t move. Then I looked at

my phone. “Message sent.” Then I looked back at him. He was grinning. I looked

across the table to Danielle. She was staring at me with an angry look on her face. I

wondered if I did something wrong. Then I looked back at my food and ate some

more. I reached to open my water but, it was already. I was sure I didn’t have any. Iheard a low chuckle from Ian. I didn’t dare to look him. I had a sip of my water and

put it down. I didn’t want to think of Ian in any way but a friend. I was hard for me

not to think like that. He was perfect. He had an amazing smile with shiny white

teeth, brilliant baby blue eyes, and the sleek black hair. I immediately pushed those

thoughts out of my head and ate again. I really wanted to go home already. Then my

life saver came, the bell. I quickly got up and threw my lunch away and walked to my

car.

And he was there. I froze at the entrance to the parking lot. He was parked one

car down from mine, a Honda Hybrid. I tried to hide as I walked to my car. I forgot Ileft my top down on my car. I threw my books in my car and stood there. I heard

footsteps coming closer to me. I turned around saw Ian across from me on the other

side of my car.

“Nice ride.”

“Thanks, I didn’t know you were like me.”

He was confused. “Like you? You mean have parents who are rich and famous?”

“Y-yeah, why didn’t you tell me?”

“I didn’t think I had to. I don’t like being treated special either. It is annoying

isn’t it?” he smiled showing his teeth again. They shimmered in the sunlight, it hurtmy eyes. He started to walk around my car.

“Very.” He was closer to me now, standing next to me.

“You don’t think I’m cute like everyone else in this school does? Or do you think

I am but you were afraid to say it because I was reading the message?” he teased.

“I-I gotta go. See you tomorrow.” I pushed past him to my car door. I got into

my car and pulled away, I didn’t look back.

“Um, I’m not really sure yet, he’s really nice and cute but, I’m not looking for

a guy yet.” My answer was partially true.

“Oh, I was just wondering though. He seems really into you.”

I sighed. “I know. I have to go, sorry. Bye.” I ran to the register and paid cashfor the suits. I grabbed the bag and walked out to my car. I put the bag in the trunk

and started the car. I put the top back down and backed out of the parking space.

By the time I got home, it was 3:30. I put my car in the garage and took my

school bad and Victoria’s Secret bag and walked into the house. My mother was

lounged on the couch reading a People magazine.

“Oh hi mom, I didn’t know you were there.”

“Hey, sweetie, did you find anything nice?”

“Yeah, I bought three of them. A pink one, a green one and a purple one,

they’re really nice.”

“That’s nice. How was school?”

Damn. “Um, it was great. I met a couple of kids and my teachers are really

nice. What did you do today?” I sat down on the armchair next to her.

“Nothing really, I prepared to chicken for tonight and talked to my agent about

the new movie he signed me for!” he was practically yelling now.

“Mom that’s great! What movie is it?” I tried to sound as excited as possible.

“’Luckiest’, it’s a love story between a guy and a girl during the holocaust. It’s

going to be great and your allowed to come on set some days and watch me film it if

you want to.”

“Maybe I will one day.” That would be a great excuse to get out of school. “I’m

going to go upstairs and talk to some of my old friends. See you later.” I ran up steps

to my room and put my stuff on my bed. I opened my balcony doors and stepped out

on to it. It was huge. It had lounge chairs, a stereo and it had an awning over it if I

wanted it out. I laid down on one of the lounge chairs, watching the birds in the bluesky. I was looking at the clouds, looking for pictures of animals and people. Then I saw

an “I” and I sighed. I turned over on my side and closed my eyes. After about ten

minutes, I drifted to sleep……

I woke up and the sun was setting. I jumped up and looked at my clock next to

my bed, 5:00. I changed out of my clothes and put on my sweatpants and a t-shirt and

I put my hair in a ponytail. I walked to the hallway and smelled the chicken cooking

downstairs. As I walked downstairs, I saw one of my maids, Lisa.

“Hello Miss Esposito. Your mother is cooking dinner downstairs.”

“Thanks, and please call me Aurelia. I would feel much better.” I smiled at her

and she smiled back.

“Okay, Aurelia.” I walked down the steps and walked into the kitchen. I saw my

mother making mashed potatoes while the chicken was in the oven. Marie was a great

cook, that’s why she didn’t want a chef in the house. She enjoyed making dinner for

me and herself every night. She didn’t notice me at first. I came up behind her as she

was smashing the potatoes so they were mushy.

“Hey mom, dinner smells great.” My voice cracked.

“Ah! Oh, it’s just you, Aurelia. You shouldn’t scare me like that.” She put a

hand over her heart.

I put my hand on her shoulder. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know I was going to scare

you,” I chuckled quietly, and then walked over to the breakfast bar. She turned

around to look me.

“That’s okay,” She laughed quietly along with me. “Did you have a nice nap?”

she joked.“Very pleasant, actually,” I laughed. “Is dinner almost ready?”

“Actually, it’s finished now,” She smiled and then back to the oven. She pulled

the chicken out and cut it into pieces. She took some mashed potatoes and chicken

and put it on a plate for me. “Here you go, sweetie,” She smiled again.

“Thanks mom,” I grabbed the plate and walked over to the table. I pulled the

chair out and ate quietly. “Wow, this is delicious, mom.” I put another piece of

chicken in my mouth.

She grinned. “Thanks honey.” The whole time we were eating, she was asking

me questions about my day. And I tried to answer as happily as possible. When I was

done, I took my plate and put it in the dishwasher, then say goodnight and went up

stairs. I pushed the power button on my laptop and waited for it to load. I typed in

my password and clicked out the little messages that came up. I clicked on my

messenger icon and the Safari icon. When I signed in on AIM, about 5 people IMed me

9

Page 10: my first story. :]

all saying the same thing and I clicked them all out. I signed out of AIM and signed

onto Myspace. I had 4 messages, 5 comments, and 2 friend requests. I didn’t feel like

talking to anyone right now so I signed off. I looked on the time on my laptop, it was

8:30. I figured it was late enough to go to sleep. So I did.

A week passed and Ian and Aurelia were talking each day but, made no sort of progress in a real relationship.

My alarm woke me up at 6:00 Monday morning. I looked at the time. I groaned and

rolled back over. 5 minutes later, Marie came in and pulled the pillow off of my face.

“Sweetie, you have to get ready for school.” I opened my eyes and looked at

her. Her brown hair was up in a bun and she had a cup of coffee in her hand. “Come

on. You wouldn’t want to be late for school.”

I groaned again and sat up. I had school today. “Thanks mom. I’m not going

back to bed, trust me.”

“Okay honey. I’ll see you downstairs,” She put my pillow down next to me and

walked out of the room. I watched her close my door and heard her walk down the

stairs to the kitchen. I sat on the edge of my bed and stretched. I put on my slippers

and headed for my bathroom. I got dressed in my purple t-shirt and black skinny

jeans, and put on my make-up, including my new purple mascara.

I walked downstairs and sat down in the chair with my bag on the floor next to

me. “What’s for breakfast, ma?” I was still very tired.

“Well, pancakes and bacon. Do you like pancakes?” she smiled.

“Yes, I love pancakes.” I laughed.

She sighed in relief. “Okay, good. I made a lot.” She pointed to the big stack of

chocolate chip pancakes on the counter. My eyes grew wide in amazement. I stabbed

three pancakes on put them on my plate. Then, I took some bacon and apple juice

then walked back over to the table.

“So listen, Aurelia,” I looked up from my food, still chewing. “I’m not going to

bed here when you get home. I have to leave here to meet my agent to talk about thesome of the movies I’m going to be in. I won’t be back until 11 tonight. Are you going

to be okay here?”

“Yeah mom, I’ll be fine. I can make Mac and cheese for dinner.”

She smiled. “Okay, oh! I talked to Aunt Dana last night; we are going to go to

get Liliana in two weeks, over the weekend. We’ll take a plane to New York and stay

10

Page 11: my first story. :]

for the weekend then come back in time for school on Monday. Does that sound good?

I know you miss her.”

I could feel my face light up. “It sounds great! I really have missed her a lot; I

can’t wait to see her.”

She looked at her watch. “Alright, you have to get going, honey. It’s 7:15.

You’re going to be late.”

Wow. “Okay, I’m leaving now. I’ll see you later mom. Bye.”

“Bye honey!” She called out into the entrance way. I slipped my shoes on and

threw my bag over my shoulder.

I walked quickly out to the garage to my car. I put my bag in the back, started

car, and then lowered the roof. I put my sunglasses on and adjusted my mirrors and I

was off to another day of my fabulous new school. I backed out slowly and turnedonto the busy street. I hoped this day wasn’t going to drag on and on. I took off my

sunglasses and left them hanging on the rear view mirror.

Chapter 3

English was different today. There were no sounds as I walked down the aisle,

like there were. Except for the one guy who felt it was necessary to put his hand out

as I walked by so his hand would touch my leg. I glared at him when I sat down and

took out my notebook. I wasn’t really paying much attention to my teacher. I was

doodling aimlessly on my notebook while she was talking. The only part I caught was

that we were getting textbooks today. I looked up when she called my name to get a

textbook. I got up quickly and half-ran back to my seat. I put my name in the book

and filled out the card she gave me. I wrote quickly and neatly so I could get back to

my doodles. Once I was finished I walked back up to the front of the room to give Ms.

Greene my card.

I walked back to my seat and they boy put his hand out again. I stopped before

his hand and pushed it back onto his desk. He chuckled at what I did as I sat down. I

saw one of his friends look at me and I glared his him. He stopped laughing and looked

straight in front of him. I softly giggled.

“Hi, Aurelia,” a quiet voice spoke. I looked to my left at the girl next to me.

“Hi. Um, I’m sorry; I don’t know your name.” I felt embarrassed that I wasn’t

sure of her name.

She laughed. “My name’s Caitlyn. I didn’t get to talk to you last week.” The

way she spoke was very quiet. I had to lean over to hear what she was saying. She

didn’t seem to notice though.

“Oh, hello. I wasn’t really talking last week; it isn’t really your fault.”

“Well, how do you like L.A.?”

That was the first time someone asked me how I like where I’m living since I

got here. “Its fine I guess. I wasn’t really ready for the sudden heat though. I use to

live in New York City with my father.” I didn’t feel like going into details about my

father right now.

“Is it too hot for you then?” She honestly seemed curious about me.

“Not too hot, just hotter than I expected,” I smiled at her. She was very easy to

talk to. And then the bell rang.

12

Page 13: my first story. :]

8/14/2019 my first story. :]

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/my-first-story- 13/46

“I guess I’ll see you in lunch then.”

“Lunch?” That seemed to confuse me.

“Yeah, I’m in your lunch period. Actually, I sit at the same able as you too.”

I flushed a light pink because I didn’t notice her. “Oh. Then I’ll see you inlunch. Bye Caitlyn.”

“Bye Aurelia.” She smiled at me. I walked out of the classroom into the hot

hallway. I made my way to my next class, remembering how to get there. And then it

hit me. I have science next, and science meant Ian being there. He was one person I

wanted to see but, I didn’t like that I wanted to see him so much. It didn’t feel right,

I had just met him and I wanted to be around him so much. There was only one way

that I wouldn’t feel like that, and I wasn’t exactly sure it would work; I had to stay

away from him. I couldn’t think of trying to stay away from. It would be difficult

anyways. I sat next to him in one of my classes and I would see him every day after

school in the parking lot. Then that idea left my head. I was in front of my class now. I

peaked in and saw Ian sitting in his seat drumming his fingers. I sighed and stepped

into the room. I watched him, his fingers stopped and he smiled at me. I sat down and

looked at the board, even though class hadn’t started yet. He laughed and kept

staring at me.

“Hey.” I looked at him and saw him grinning at me.

“Hi, Ian.” I looked at the board.

“Are you ignoring me?” he seemed curious but a hint of amusement in his eyes.

I wasn’t sure if I should tell him the truth or what he wanted to hear. What if he

wanted to hear I was ignoring him? I couldn’t imagine why he would want that though.

I turned to look at him again. “Not exactly. I’m just trying to figure out

something right now.”

“And what would that be?”

Uh-oh. “I don’t know if I should tell you.” I looked back at the board. He

continued to stare at me.

“How come?” His eyes were burning the side of my head. I turned to face him

again.

“I’m not sure if I want you to know. It’s kind of a private thing.”

“I can keep a secret,” he smiled at me.

13

Page 14: my first story. :]

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/my-first-story- 14/46

I laughed and looked at my book. Then I picked up my pencil and started to

right something out on my book.

I think I like you.

I pushed my book in front of him for him to read it. His eyes turned wide andthey scanned the page over and over again. It seemed like he was reading it a million

times but I couldn’t be sure. Finally, he looked into my eyes. I had to look away from

him, too tempted to do something I shouldn’t. I concentrated on listening to Mr.

Tresser. Another announcement about getting a textbook, I really didn’t listen that

much. All I did was think about Ian. I listened to the sound of his laughter in my head;

it was the most beautiful laugh I had ever heard. It fascinated me. Everything about

him fascinated me. Then Mr. Tresser called my name.

“Huh?” I looked at him and Mr. Tresser looked up from the attendance sheet,

peeking over his glasses.

“I guess you’re here then,” he grumbled. I heard Ian laugh quietly next to me. I

narrowed my eyes and glared at him. He stopped laughing immediately, not wanting

to make me mad, I imagined and he looked away from me. I pulled my book away

from him and scribbled out what I wrote. I looked up at Ian for a second and saw hurt

on his face. I rolled my eyes and wrote on the paper again.

I didn’t want Mr. Tresser to see what I wrote. And

besides what said before it’s not something I know

for a fact. Im still deciding, just to let you know.

I pushed the note book back into his view and he read it. Then he smiled and

looked at me and mouthed the words “ok” at me.

“Ian? IAN!” Mr. Tresser was shouting now. Ian looked up at him.

“Huh? Oh, here.” He turned pink and looked at me again. For the rest of the

period, Mr. Tresser handed out our science textbooks and explained what we would be

learning this year. I tried to pay attention to him as much as I could but my plan

didn’t work out too well. Every couple of minutes I would peek out the corner of myeye at him. He leaned back against the lab chair with his fingers were tapping a song.

When I watched for too long, he would look at me and smirk. It seemed that the bell

rang softer than usually, I barely heard it. I got up and put my book into my backpack

at a normal pace. Ian was waiting at the door for me. I walked over to him.

“Did you make your decision yet? He was amused.

14

I flushed a deep red and looked down. “Yes.”

He waited for me to respond. “Are you going to tell me?”

I looked up into his eyes and gulped. “Don’t you already know?”

“I guess I do but I want to hear it said.” He tried to look at my face; I didn’t lethim, since I had but my head down to look at the floor. He knew that it was going to

be a challenge to get me to say it aloud.

“I’m not sure if I want to say it.” I had to put up some of an argument.

“Please?” His eyes were looking at me, searching for my face through my hair. I

pulled my hair back behind my ear. I looked at him. We were walking to my next

class, study hall.

“I have a better idea. My mom won’t be home until late tonight. Why don’t youcome over my house?” I smiled at him.

“Sure. Do you want to meet me there or should I follow you?” he sounded very

excited about our little plan.

“You can follow me. I’ll see you later. Bye, Ian.” He should meet me there? He

didn’t know where I lived though. I walked into my class and sat in my seat. The

whole time, I was doodling on my notebook covers. Everywhere it said Ian’s name. I

tried to erase most of it; it didn’t work out too well. I tried to think about what my

mother would say if she knew that Ian was coming over. Would she be mad? Or excited

that I brought a friend home? Either way, she wouldn’t find out that he was going tobe there. I looked around me and saw that I was the only one in the classroom. The

bell must have ringed.

The rest of the day was like this, I wouldn’t hear the teacher call my name or

hear the bell, and he was making me deaf to everything else beside my thoughts.

Once I got to lunch, my ears went back to normal. I heard everyone talking in the

cafeteria, even though it sounded more like screaming. I walked up to counter and

bought a salad and water again. Then saw Ian at the same table as yesterday, only he

was sitting at the far end by himself. I walked past everyone else at the table and

stopped in front of the chair across from him. He looked up at me and smiled.

“Can I sit with you?” I smiled back at him.

“That’s what I was hoping.” He watched me as I sat down in the chair. Then I

picked up my fork and started to eat. “You really want me to come over your house

today?” He was still smiling.

15

Page 16: my first story. :]

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/my-first-story- 16/46

“Did you think I was joking?”

“I wasn’t sure.” He looked over my shoulder to another table. I followed his

glance. Then he focused back at me. “You don’t seem like anyone else in this school.

You don’t like to put yourself in a showcase and let everyone see that you’re rich and

famous. Everyone who’s like us does that. They like having special treatment, howcome you dont?”

I had to think about it for a minute. “I guess I’m so use to being treated

normal, I hate being in the spotlight. How come you don’t like it?” I didn’t really want

to talk about me too much.

He just watched me as he thought of his answer. “I feel like whoever is

watching me is waiting for me to do something stupid. That’s why I didn’t want to tell

you who I really was. But now I see you’re not like that. So I’m not afraid anymore.”

He smiled his famous glistening smile. I looked at the other kids at the table, theywere watching us. I looked back at Ian. He wasn’t smiling anymore; he looked like he

was upset about something.

I pulled my eyebrows together and tried to see his face. “Are you okay?”

He looked up from the table and looked at me. “I’ll tell you about it later.”

We sat like this for this rest of the lunch period. He ate quietly, keeping his

face down so I couldn’t see. I kept looking around at the other people at our table;

they watched me, especially Danielle. I was started to think that Ian and her were

together or are together. They didn’t act like it though, so maybe Danielle just likedhim. Either way, I don’t think Danielle liked me very much. I watched Ian for the rest

of the period and then the bell rang. Ian looked up at me.

“Let’s go,” He still seemed upset about something. I didn’t want to ask him

about it now.

He followed me to the parking lot and got in his car. I walked over to his car.

“You’re following me, right?”

He rolled down his window. “That’s the plan.” He smiled and left his window

down. I walked back over to my car and got in. Then I put on my sunglasses and pulled

out of my spot, out onto the main road. He stayed behind me the whole time. Every

now and then I would look at my rear view mirror to look at him. He had on big black

sunglasses and was smirking. I tried to focus on not hit a car, or a person. We got to

my house at 3:00. He pulled up into the empty space in the garage and pulled into

mine. I hung my glasses on my rear view mirror and looked over at Ian. He did the

same thing. He laughed and I joined in.

16

He got out of his car and waited for me. I got out quickly and walked up to the

front door and unlocked it. I walked into the large entry way. I turned to look behind

me at Ian. He was looking up at the high ceilings. Then he looked back at me.

“I like your house. It’s huge.” He laughed.

“Thanks. I’m still getting use to it though. I moved here about two weeks ago.”

I slipped of my flip flops and walked into the living room. “Are you going to tell me

what you were upset about in lunch?”

He looked away from me and frowned. “I guess.” He walked into the living

room and sat down on the couch next to me. He looked back at me. “Do you really

want to know?”

Chapter 4

“I’ve wanted to know since we left lunch.”

He looked away at me again. “Danielle and I were going out but, then she saw

me and you together. So, she broke up with me. She didn’t like that we were talking.”

He kept his head down.

I felt terrible. I broke Ian and his girlfriend up. There had to be some way that I

could get them back together. I wasn’t sure if Danielle wanted to get back together

with him though. I wanted him to be here with me. I didn’t want him to be with

Danielle.

“When she heard that I was coming to your house today…” He shook his head.

“She was so mad at me. She texted me and told me that she didn’t want to be with

me if I was going to be friends with you.” He put his head in his hand. “But the really

bad thing is that I don’t want to be with her anymore. We’ve been together for so

long but things have changed.” He lifted his head and looked at me.

I was so confused. I made things change between him and his girlfriend? I could

do that? “I don’t want to ruin things with you and Danielle. You should get back

together with her.”

He smiled at me. “Did you not hear me? I don’t want to be with her anymore.

She’s changed and I don’t like it. Even if she wanted to be with me, I don’t want to be

with her.”

I looked back into his bright eyes. It’s like they hypnotized me. We sat like that

for a minute or two. I turned my head. “I’m hungry.” I got up and started to walk

towards the kitchen. “Do you want anything?” I yelled into the living room.

“What can you make?” I heard him laugh. Then I heard footsteps coming into

the kitchen. He stood next to me.

I laughed with him. “Mac and cheese, I don’t suppose that you could do any

better.” He started to look in all of my cabinets. He took out some pasta, sauce,

shredded cheese and some seasonings.

“Where do you keep your pots?” he smiled at me.

18

Page 19: my first story. :]

“Under the cabinet next to the sink.” I watched him walk over to the cabinet

and he pulled out a medium sized pot. He walked over the sink and put water in it

then put it on the stove. I followed him over to the stove. He turned around to face

me.

“I’m going to make you pasta and sauce.” He smiled. “It’s much better thanmac and cheese.”

“You don’t have to.” I laughed.

“Your right, I want to.” I walked over to the breakfast bar and watched him

cook. He was a great chef, that’s for sure. Once he was done, he put the pasta in a

bowl and got a fork. Then he turned and put the bowl in front of me. I pulled the

bowl closer to me and took a bite.

He watched me take a couple of bites. “What do you think?”

It took me a minute to finish chewing what I was eating, and then I swallowed.

“It’s really good. Thank you.” I took another bite.

He laughed. “My pleasure.” He took his bowl and sat down next to me. He

watched me as I ate, even though he was eating too. I ate slowly and he was finished

before me. He waited. When I was done, he took my bowl and put it in the

dishwasher. “What do you want to do now?” He was smiling now.

“I’m not sure… I really didn’t think about it when I invited you over.” I laughed.

He joined me. “Can I see your room?” he raised his eyebrows.

I thought about it for a moment, a guy in my room while my mom isn’t home. It

didn’t sound like the best idea but I really didn’t care. “Sure. Follow me.” I headed

for the stairs and he followed. I stopped in front of my door and put my hand on the

handle. I took a deep breath and pushed the door open. I stepped inside and looked at

Ian. He circled the whole room, touching everything lightly with his fingertips. When

he made it back to me, he smiled.

“It’s a very big room you have.” He chuckled.

“Thanks.” I walked over to sit on the edge of my bed. Ian followed me. We

stared at each other for a long moment. Ian put my hair behind my ear. The feel of his

skin was amazing. I grabbed his hand and pulled it back to my cheek. I held his hand

there for a moment, feeling the soft touch of his skin. It made my cheek hot. Then I

took it off and looked away. I flushed a light red and walked onto my balcony. I held

never knew it. My mind went back to all of the memories I had with him: lunch time,

the playground, music class, our class pet, playing with blocks. I couldn’t believe I

didn’t recognize him the first time I saw him. I didn’t understand how I just

remembered him. I flushed and looked away from him.

“Whats wrong?” He was confused.

I looked back at him. “Nothing, I just can’t believe it’s really you, Ian. You

were every one of my classes while I was here, my best friend. Even in preschool. And

I still didn’t know it was you. You didn’t look the least bit familiar to me.”

“So you’re embarrassed about that?” He seemed even more confused than

before.

I flushed even deeper. “There’s more to the story.”

He smiled. “I have time to listen.” Then he grabbed my hand and pulled meback into my bedroom. I let go of his hand and sat with my legs crossed on my bed.

He sat across from me, copying my position. He waited for me to say something.

“Are you going to explain the rest of the story?” He grabbed my hand again and

smiled.

I looked down at our hands and then at the clock. It was 5:30. Then I locked my

eyes on his. “Ever since we first met… I… wanted you.” I stared at my hand in

between his. I felt my cheeks getting warmer.

Ian waited. “Is that it? Or is there more to the story?” He was still smiling.

I continued to watch our hands. He was rubbing my hand with his thumb.

“Well, not really. It’s just that we were best friends. We did everything together.” I

looked up at him again.

“Aurelia, You don’t understand how I felt, how I feel now! We were young and

afraid to tell each other the truth. It pained me when you left to go to live with your

father. I had no idea you weren’t going to come back. I would ask my parents and they

wouldn’t tell me. Once I hit 7th grade I started to change into my scene punk look.”

He laughed quietly. “Then in 8th grade I found Danielle, and we had been togetherever since. That’s why it pained me so much when she wanted to break up with me.

She doesn’t know that you were around a few years ago. She didn’t know how much it

hurt. Even though we were only 8 and 9 years old, I still wanted to be around you so

much. Then I saw you in science class. It amazed me that you had come back to L.A.

It was like a reunion for me, of course you didn’t know that we knew each other years

back. And here we are.” I was still watching him. I was afraid to look up at him.

21

Page 22: my first story. :]

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/my-first-story- 22/46

I kept my head down. “And here we are…” I repeated.

“And where is that?” I glanced up and held my eyes on his. His eyes were the

bright baby blue I loved. They were deep; I could look into his eyes all day long. I had

to force myself to look away.

Ian pulled my face so he could see it. “Don’t be embarrassed. There’s nothing

wrong with this.” He looked down and closed his eyes. “I want you, Aurelia.”

I couldn’t think of anything to say to him. The thoughts in my head were

rushing, almost giving me a headache. The room turned silent, but I still heard my

thoughts. There were millions of little questions that needed to be answered. Most of

them I didn’t want to be answered. I pulled myself into his lap and put my head on his

shoulder. I wrapped my arms around his neck and sat there. He took his arms and

placed them on my waist, pulling me closer to him. His hands were cold now,

traveling up and down on my lower back. He didn’t go any farther than my waist.

It felt like we were sitting like this for hours, not minutes. Finally, Ian moved

his head to look at me. He stared at me for a moment then spoke very quietly.

“I think I better go now. It’s getting late and I don’t want my parents to get

worried. I’m sorry.” I climbed out of his lap onto my bed and watched him.

“I’ll see you tomorrow.” I smiled at him.

He smiled back his famous smile. He got up and headed for the hallway. I

followed him. He stopped at the front door, took a deep breath and turned to faceme. Then he bent down and his lips pressed on my cheek. My face turned to a bright

red color. “Bye, Aurelia.” He held my hands for a moment then let go and turned

away.

“Bye.” I spoke in a whisper this time. I watched him walk to the garage and

pull out of the drive way. I looked in my hand and there was a piece of paper that had

his cell phone number on it, then I shoved the paper in my pocket.

I turned around once he left the driveway and saw Lisa standing there with the

duster her hand. Her mouth was open and her eyes were wide. A bad feeling rose

inside me, it was telling me that something I didn’t want to happen was going to.

22

Page 23: my first story. :]

Chapter 5

“Uh hi Lisa, How long have you been there?” My throat was still dry.

Her expression turned angry. “Long enough, Miss Esposito. I’m going to have to

tell your mother about this, you know. I don’t think she would approve of young men

in the house while she is away.” She walked back over the table she was dusting. “Or,

you could tell her yourself.”

If Marie found out from Lisa that Ian was over, she probably wouldn’t trust me

or believe me ever again. If she found out from me, she probably only wouldn’t trust

me again. Either way, nothing good was going to happen so I might as well tell her

myself.

“I think I’m going to tell her myself. It will be easier for her to hear it from

me.” Though she wasn’t the one I was worried about. If I ever wanted Ian to come

over here again, I had to make sure Marie didn’t flip out on me.

Lisa gave me a dirty look and turned off to her finish her work. Then my phone

vibrated in my pocket. When I pulled it out, the little piece of paper came out with

it, Ian’s number. As I made my way up the stairs, I punched in Ian’s number into my

iPhone, and then sent him a message.

Hey Ian.

My laptop took longer than usual today. After about 10 minutes, the screen

loaded. I set up a virus scan for while I was in the shower. Then I put my pajamas out

on my bed. BUZZ BUZZ , my phone.

Hey, I didn’t think you were going to text me. Haha

I chuckled.

Actually I have to get in the shower so ill text you when im done. Bye.

My phone made a thud sound as I threw it on my pillow and landed on the floor.

I didn’t bother to pick it up; instead I wrapped the towel around me and ran to the

bathroom. Once I was in the shower, I tried to wash off the stress on me and then

stood there for a long half hour. I rubbed my hair quickly as when I attempted to dry

it. The towel didn’t work, so I got my hair dryer and it didn’t take long for my hair to

dry like that. I put on my pajamas and picked up my phone, then sent Ian another

message.

That night, my dreams were filled of Ian. The one that I remembered the most

was us lying under the stars. My head was on his chest with his arm around me. Then

his lips gently touched mine and he held it there for a long moment. A dark figure

appeared behind us, the man had a knife. I jumped up and started running. When I

looked back, Ian wasn’t behind me. The mysterious man had already gotten to him.

I sat up and was breathing heavily. I turned to look at the clock, 4 in the

morning. I put my pillow over my eyes and wished to myself that Ian was here with

me. It was easier for me to fall asleep now and I woke up at a normal time a couple of

hours later. I picked up my phone and was about to text Ian again, but he was

probably still asleep. I walked to the bathroom and got ready, wearing my favorite

band t-shirt with another pair or black skinny jeans and my hair in low pigtails. I lay in

my bed until I had to leave to go to school, I didn’t feel like talking to my mother

right now. Time went by faster than I thought it would. By the time I looked my clock

for the third time it was time for me to leave.

I ran from my bedroom door and almost fell down the stairs while doing it. I

put my shoes on and walked to my car.

When I got to school, Ian was leaning casually against the wall. His arms were

folded on his chest and his eyes were closed. I tried to be quiet as closed my car door

and walked towards him. I grabbed his hand, unfolding his arms, and held it tightly in

mine. His eyes opened, looking at me.

“Hi, how was your night?”

I put my arms around him, my head on his chest. It reminded me of my terrible

nightmare. “Horrible.” Tears were starting to build up in my eyes.

His arms immediately wrapped around me. “What? What happened?” His voice

was anxious, or scared?

Tears came down my face now. “A nightmare, you were gone. Everything was

peaceful and then…” I felt more warm tears run down my face. “… A man came. H-he

killed you. A-and I ran as fast as I could. I thought you were behind me and then I

looked b-back and you weren’t there.” The words were rushing out of my mouth.

“Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere.” He pulled back to look at my face. A

new set of tears rolled out of my eyes. He wiped them away with his hand.

“I meant what I said last night, I really did.” He took me back into his chest.

Most of my tears had stopped now.

25

Page 26: my first story. :]

8/14/2019 my first story. :]

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/my-first-story- 26/46

He looked at the watch, then back at me.

“We should get to class.” He pulled me to walk with him to my class. He kept

my hand in his the whole time. I didn’t refuse when he hugged me this time in front

of my class. Though, his hug was more like a squeeze, but I didn’t hug back that

tightly and he held me like that for about 10 seconds.

He whispered in my ear. “I love you.” Ian looked at my face, I guess he found it

amusing that my eyes were wide with shock, and smiled. He spun around to the other

direction and walked off to his class. I stood there for a moment. I took my seat in my

class quickly. All I wanted was to be with Ian right now. My fingers were tapping at a

rapid speed and Katelyn was watching me the whole time. Every now and then I

would accidentally give a rude look. When Ms. Greene called on me to answer a

question, my answer didn’t make much sense. It was clear to her that I didn’t want to

be here right now. I put my stuff away 5 minutes before the bell so I wouldn’t have to

waste time putting them into my bag. My foot tapped the whole time, too. I jettedout of my seat when the bell rang and sped to my class. As I walked down the hallway,

I saw Ian talking to Danielle. She was yelling at him about something. He didn’t seem

to care much for what she had to say. He stood there with his hands in his pockets and

he wasn’t saying anything. His eyes found mine and then he smirked at me. Danielle

followed his gaze to me and her mouth dropped. She turned back to him and shoved

him back. He hit into the lockers. I ran over to where he was standing.

“What the hell is going on?” By this point, I was furious at Danielle.

Danielle looked at me. “This is your entire fault, Aurelia!” Then she pointedher finger to Ian. “You knew that we were going out and you went for him anyway! I

thought you wanted to be my friend!” She stormed off down the hallway.

I watched her walk down the hall. Ian came up to me and took my hand. “Sorry

about that.”

“Why is she mad at me?” I was still watching her walk down the hall.

“She thinks you’re the reason that I said no to be her boyfriend again.” He had

a huge smile on his face.

I turned slowly to look at him. My temper went down now, but I was more upset

with myself than her. “I told you this wouldn’t be a good idea.” My eyes met the floor.

“And I told you that she didn’t matter to me. Forget what she said. It isn’t your

fault. She changed, do you remember that whole conversation?” he teased.

26

Page 27: my first story. :]

8/14/2019 my first story. :]

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/my-first-story- 27/46

“Yeah I do… I guess you’re right though.” My eyes met his. They were gentle.

“Are you sure? She seemed really mad.”

He sighed loudly. “I am absolutely positive.” He pulled me into his chest and

wrapped his arms around me. “The only thing you have to worry about is what people

are going to say now.” He glanced up to the crowd of people watching us. Most oftheir jaws were down to the floor. “But that’s not even something big to worry

about.”

I laughed. “I guess not, since you’d protect me right?” I followed the gaze to

the large crowd and laughed again, flushing a red.

I walked into class with his arm around my shoulder. He put his lips to my ear.

“If we are going to be public about it, we might at well make it good.” He

laughed but kept his lips at my ear, kissing it.

I pushed him away when Mr. Tresser walked in the room. He laughed at how I

didn’t like our public display of affection. I threw an annoyed look at him. He quickly

fixed his expression and listened to Mr. Tresser’s lesson. I caught on quick, too. Ian’s

eyes burned me when he glanced. It was like I could feel the sudden heat on my body.

I didn’t want to look at him, thinking I would get distracted, but my plan didn’t work

out too well. Mr. Tresser called on me to answer a question but since I was looking at

Ian, I didn’t get it right and Ian found it hilarious. The class seemed to be extra long

today, but it didn’t make much sense though. I wasn’t waiting for anything or wanting

to be any where in particular, except for right here with Ian.

27

Page 28: my first story. :]

Chapter 6

When the class was finally over, I let out a long, quiet sigh but, Ian seemed to

notice. He laughed aloud as he waited for me to get my books in my bag. As soon as

we were out of the classroom, I reached for his hand and he automatically gave it to

me. It seemed like nothing now, like I had done it a lot before, like it was a normal

thing to do, it felt right.

Once again, I felt his eyes on me. He was smiling at me. “Are you okay about

this now? Or are you still having those feelings?”

“Not really, I guess they went away some how…” My voice drifted off. I was

looking ahead of me, heading for my next class. I figured that Ian was going to walk

me, assuming he didn’t mind being late to his own. I guess he didn’t mind that there

were people staring at us the whole to way my class. It didn’t seem to bother me too

much, plus, even if it did, I would have to get used to it. Danielle passed us, headedthe other way, and gave me a dirty look. I shrugged and smiled. I saw a lot of hurt on

her face. I looked away from her and saw Ian. He didn’t mind at all, in fact, he was

laughing. I stopped in the hall.

“Ian, she’s really hurt about this. I’m not saying anything about us not being

together it’s just…” I wasn’t sure how to end it. “…I have to do something for her. At

least try to do something so she won’t be so mad.”

He didn’t like hearing me say those words. His eyebrows pulled together.

“Please listen to me, Aurelia. You don’t have to do anything for her. It’s not your faultshe extremely jealous of us.” He was whispering now as he ran his fingers through my

hair.

I understood everything that he said but, I still felt as if I needed to make it up

to her. All I could do was nod. He didn’t want me to be upset about it, it wasn’t

something I had to be upset about, and so I wasn’t going to be. I wanted to be with

Ian. He was my best friend, my boyfriend. I didn’t want that to change, I loved him.

“I won’t be upset anymore.” He put his forehead to mine. I looked into his

bright baby blue eyes. They mesmerized me. I wished that I could look into them all

day. There were so many feelings in them: anger, hurt, and my favorite, love, his love

for me. He told me he loved me before, and I love him, but I wasn’t ready to say it to

say it back to him yet, even though I know that it is true. He knows it is true, too. Ian

knows so much without me even telling him. He knows I love him, he knows that I’m

afraid to tell him, he knows that I want for us to be together, but that I don’t want to

hurt Danielle. I was beginning to think that moving to Los Angeles wasn’t that good.

28

Page 29: my first story. :]

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/my-first-story- 29/46

He kissed me on my cheek and held it there. I felt the corners of his lips curl

up. “I’ll see you later.” He moved his lips up to my ear. “I love you.” He whispered so

quietly I wasn’t sure he was talking or if I was just thinking he was saying it.

Ian started to pull away but I moved my face so that I was an inch away from

his. I opened my mouth to say the three words I have been longing to say. Hisexpression stayed the same, blank. My eyes were watching his. They were moving

quickly across my face looking at every part of it. I shook my head, pulling me out of

his trance.

I took my hand off of his face and took my other off of his shoulder and turned

around. I walked slowly into my class. I glanced over my shoulder to see Ian watching

me walk into the class. I focused on getting to my seat without looking back. When I

sat down, I looked at the doorway and Ian was gone. I put my head down on my desk

and sighed. I had so much to think about now.

My thoughts for that class all revolved around Ian. I had to get one thing

straight, is being with him worth hurting someone else? Even if the person being hurt

was Danielle, it still wasn’t right. He loved me and we just found each other again, I

wasn’t ready to let him leave me again. I wanted to know everything about him; I

wanted to have things like they used to be. Back in my city, with my father, in my

house, being with my friends. I knew that 1 of those 4 things would not be possible. I

most likely wasn’t going to get what I wanted though. If I left here again, what about

Ian? He wanted me to stay those many years ago. It seemed too soon when the bell

rang. I jumped up and dragged myself out the door to finish the rest of my day.

When the bell rang at the end of gym, I practically ran to lunch. My need to see

him was desperate. I didn’t see him, but I saw Danielle. She was standing at the table

where we sat.

“Sorry Aurelia, but you can’t sit here.” Danielle folded her arms over her chest.

I narrowed my eyes. “Who died and made you queen, Danielle?”

“Ha Ha, really cute, Well actually, you can sit here but, you’re not welcome.”

She pointed to a table across the lunch room. I saw Ian sitting there with some of his

friends. He caught my glance and then looked at Danielle. “Your boyfriend isn’t reallywelcome here either.” Elizabeth laughed along with her.

“I don’t want to sit here if Ian isn’t sitting here so I guess I’ll see you later.”

She glared at me and sat down in her seat. I made my way over to where Ian was

sitting with Peter and Cameron. I never really talked to his friends before but it

seemed like the perfect time to start. We were the same kind of kids; we listened to

29

the same kind of music and wore the same kind of clothes. I sat down quickly in the

empty seat next to Ian. Ian never took his eyes off of me and always smiling.

As soon as I took my bag off of my shoulder, Ian took my hand and pulled it on

top of the table. Peter looked away and Cameron watched us, even though there was

nothing to watch, since we hadn’t kissed yet.

Ian looked at the empty table in front of me and frowned. “Not hungry today?”

I shrugged. “Not really.” I gazed over my shoulder to see the old table of

people glaring at me. Ian followed my gaze. “So immature…” I muttered under my

breath.

Ian laughed quietly then turned back to the table. “Aurelia, this is Cameron

and Peter.” He pointed them out when he said their names.

“Hi Peter, Hi Cameron. “ I smiled at them. They both smiled back, thenCameron looked down at our hands, our fingers were intertwined together, and then

back up at us.

“So I guess you both have decided to make your little relationship public now,

right?” Peter joked to me and Ian.

“Peter, please don’t-” Ian’s expression became pleading. I knew why, he didn’t

want to see me upset again.

“Okay okay!” He held his hands up, like he was restraining him. “You don’t

need to get mad. I just figured it was about time you two turned public.” Cameronturned to me.

“You know, Aurelia, when Ian saw you in science class, you were all he talked

about.” He became amused, like it was a joke that I didn’t find funny, but I decided it

was something else.

Ian flushed a pink and looked down to his free hand fiddling with his water

bottle. I took my other hand and brushed his cheek.

Peter laughed loudly. “Aw! That’s so cute, you’re blushin’, dude!”“Shut up Peter! You think I don’t know that...” Ian became frustrated as he

trailed off.

I continued to rub his cheek. I spoke as quiet as I could, so Cameron and Peter

couldn’t hear. “I think it’s cute, seriously.”

30

Page 31: my first story. :]

Ian looked up at me and laughed. He pulled my hand away from his face and

put it down on the table.

“We don’t’ need to be that public.” He was quiet as me when he spoke.

“Might as well get used to it, right?” I put my head on his shoulder, watchingPeter and Cameron.

“So Pete, how are you and Rachelle doing? You kiss her yet?” Ian had to find

some way to get back at him and he just did.

Peter looked around the lunch room. “Dude, keep it down! We didn’t tell

anyone yet and I don’t need her to get mad at me.”

“Did you?” I chimed in.

He glared at me. “Actually, you shouldn’t be talking Miss I-stole-Ian-from-Danielle.” I could tell by his face he was joking with me.

“Really funny, Pete, but I’m going to take that as a yes.” Ian laughed and I

joined in.

“Listen, you really shouldn’t say anything because if you do-” Peter started to

say something but Cameron didn’t let him finish.

“He will do something that involves a lot of curses that I don’t need to hear.”

Cameron was sensitive to cursing, so Peter had to restrain from using it. Ian, on the

other hand, had nothing to worry about. I lifted my head from Ian’s shoulder andlooked to Danielle. She had her middle finger straight up in the air; I knew she was

giving it to me. I really didn’t care for anything that she did so I gave her the “I love

you” sign with my free hand. I laughed at her expression when she finally understood

what it meant. Ian followed my gaze to Danielle and laughed along with me. Danielle

put her finger down and went back to eating her food. I turned back to the table and

put my head down.

I felt Ian’s hand on my head. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing, I’m tired.” I mumbled softly. I assumed he barely heard me.He laughed. His laugh was like the rain for me. The rain was so peaceful and it

calmed me. Every time I hear him laugh it’s like my body gets refreshed.

I guess I fell asleep because when I got up, Ian was patting my shoulder.

31

Page 32: my first story. :]

“Aurelia, come on, it’s time to go home.” I raised my head sleepily and looked

around.

“Where is everyone?” I was still mumbling.

“On their way to their cars most likely.” He laughed.I jumped up and headed for the door, without thinking of Ian. I stopped in my

tracks and waited for him to take my hand again. Once he grabbed my hand, I sighed

in relief.

Ian walked me to my car and pushed the door closed when I went to open it.

“Are you sure you can drive home? Or are you too tired?”

“No, I’m fine. I promise.” I grinned at him and went to open the door again. I

looked back at Ian. “Why won’t you let me leave?” It sounded like I was wining.

He ignored my question and asked one himself. “Can I come over today?”

I bit my lip. I really wished that my mother was going to be okay with my

answer. “Of course, are you going straight there or going home first?” I really wished

that he was going to go home first. Then I would have time to tell my mom about him.

“I’ll come right now.” He smiled. Damn, even though I wanted him to go home

first, I didn’t.

“Okay, then can I do something before when go to my house.” I was curious for

his answer.

“Sure, I guess so.”

I got up on my tippy toes and reached for his cheek. He bent down a little bit,

it didn’t help that much. Then I softly kissed his cheek. I pulled away too soon; I knew

it felt it was too soon.

“See you soon.” I pushed past him to my car door and got in. He walked back

to the curb and touched his cheek. I giggled and kissed my hand and waved to him. He

walked off to his car, with his hand still on his cheek.

I was there before him when I got to my house, so I ran inside to my mother.

She was sitting in the kitchen reading her cooking magazine. It seemed safe enough to

make sure she would be okay with Ian here.

“Hey mom, what did you do today?” I tried not to make my voice sound too

suspicious.

32

“Well, I spoke with my agent on the phone about the movie, called one of my

friends, and found some new recipes on the computer.” She sounded proud of herself,

especially when she said she was on the computer. I had thought that she was

technology deprived.

“Sounds like you had a lot of fun, who did you call?” I was really hoping shewasn’t going to say Ian’s mother.

“Camille Michaels, do you remember her? She used to come over here a lot for

lunch and dinner with her husband, Greg, and her kids, Ian, Ryan and Madison.”

Crap. “Yeah, I do. And funny you should bring her up actually…” I was trying to

say this as easily as possible. She defiantly became confused. “I met Ian in school.

Well, on the first day of school, actually.” I finally remembered that I never told her

about yesterday. “And he was over her yesterday while you were gone. Lisa saw us

and she was going to tell you but I was afraid that you were going to be mad so I toldher that I was going to tell you and here I am.” My mouth became extremely dry.

She raised her eyebrows. “Oh. Well, you don’t have to be afraid to tell me. I

don’t mind, really I don’t. I wish you wouldn’t be afraid to tell me things like this,

though.”

“He’s coming over here… uh, today, now, really.” I was more relieved to get it

off my chest.

“Oh okay, I wish I would have known he was coming over early. I could have

picked out something more normal for dinner. I wonder if he likes enchiladas…” Shegot quietly as she spoke the last line to herself. “Well, when will he be here?”

Ding Dong! I ran to the door.

“Right now, I guess.” My mother spoke underneath her breath.

I opened the door and gave him a big hug; I had to jump up to reach him. I

smiled at him. Ian smiled back and then focused on something in the background, my

mother. “Hello Ms. Esposito.” He was being very polite.

She smiled. “Call me Marie, dear. It’s nice to see you again. You grew so big!”She laughed.

“Thanks.” Ian overlooked his body and then back to her.

An awkward silence began for about a minute. “Okay, so Ian and I are going

upstairs. See you later, mom.” I grabbed his wrist and pulled him behind me up the

stairs. I opened the door to my room and left him free of my hold.

33

“I thought your mom might freak out on me.” He laughed as walked to my bed.

“So did I, until after I talked to her and she was fine.” He opened his arms for

me to sit and I gladly accepted. I placed my head on his shoulder and he wrapped his

arms around me. We sat like this for only a moment. Ian kissed the top of my head

then he put me on my feet. I frowned. “Why would you do that?”

Ian moved so he was lying on the bed, signaling me to come lay with him. I

hesitated for a moment then decided it didn’t matter. I climbed onto my bed and

cuddled next to him. He was held up by his right elbow and his other hand was around

me. My face was pushed up against his chest and my right arm wrapped around his

body. I sighed.

“Are you okay?” He was always curious about everything I did.

“Yeah, the sigh was in relief.”

“Oh, I see.” He chuckled.

We sat like this for about an hour, peacefully not saying anything, except for

my occasional sigh. I looked up at Ian’s face, his eyes were closed and he wasn’t

smiling. By now, he was off of his hand and he was lying on his back. I deliberated and

thought if now if the best time was now to take him by surprise and let him know

every single one of those feelings about Danielle were gone. What if he was sleeping?

That wouldn’t be very good but, if he wasn’t, it would be perfect. I didn’t really think

he was sleeping, it seemed like he was though... oh well.

I reached up slowly, using my left hand to push me closer to him. I stopped

once my face was inches from his. A smile appeared on his face and he opened his

eyes. I let myself fall back to the bed as fast as I could.

He laughed quietly. I didn’t hear him; I only felt the bed vibrated under me.

“You thought I was sleeping, didn’t you?”

“I thought you were, but I didn’t want you to be.” I huffed out a breath of air.

I kept my eyes away from his, afraid to see them. “Hmm, I have to say, you

were rather close to me.” He laughed quietly again. “I guess it was about this closeright?” He pulled my face up so it was about the same distance away as it was before.

“Yeah, I guess so.” My breathing accelerated.

Ian moved closer so our noses and foreheads were touching. I closed my eyes,

since it was making me cross-eyed, which gave me a headache, if I tried still look at

his eyes. The closeness made me start gasping for air.

Chapter 7

Ian held me like that for a moment. I wanted him to do it already… so I did. I

pushed in even closer so our lips lightly were brushing each other. Ian pushed in closer

and our lips mashed together. I put my hand in his hair and knotted my fingers,

holding him here. I felt his lips turn into a smile.

“Aurelia.” He mumbled as our lips were still smashed together.

“Hm?” That’s all I could get out. I wouldn’t let anything else out.

“Your mother.”

I froze. “What about her?”

He laughed slightly. “She’s coming up the stairs. I hear her.”

I jumped off of him and sat down on my bed with him next to me fiddling with

my hair as I pretended to text Raquel.

KNOCK KNOCK! I practically jumped up when I heard my mom knocking.

I cleared my throat. “Come in!” I was still “texting” Raquel. I felt Ian tugging

on my hair. “What are you doing?”

“Braiding it.” He chuckled. “I do my little sister’s all the time. You should meet

her, she’ll really like you.”

“Hello?” Marie’s voice was a more soprano voice, a bit higher than mine. It

sounds like a little kids voice.

“Oh sorry, mom. Whats up?” I tried to sound as normal as possible.

She was leaning on the doorway of my room. “Dinner’s ready if you two want

some.” She was smiling at us; apparently she liked us getting along.

“We’ll be down in a minute, mom.” I smiled back her and then I shot a glance

to Ian.

She knew what I meant and nodded once, Ian wasn’t paying any attention to

us. “Okay, I’ll be downstairs.” She left the room, closing the door behind her.

Ian stopped braiding my hair and watched me. I leaned in again to kiss him and

we did. He took the lead this time. My lips moved perfectly like his, synchronized

with his. My arms were down on my lap and his were on my waist. We sat like this for

35

Page 36: my first story. :]

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/my-first-story- 36/46

a little while again. Then I pulled away too soon. I caught him off guard. His eyes

were still closed when I let go.

His eyes opened slowly. Ian laughed when he saw me watching him.

“We have to go eat dinner now, don’t we?” He was still laughing.“Yeah, we do.” I chuckled along with him. “But first, I want to tell you

something.” I climbed into his lap and put my mouth to his ear and cupped it.

“I love you.”

He pulled away and looked into my eyes. “I know you do. And I love you, too.

Probably more than you love me but, we aren’t going to have that argument right

now. Let’s go eat.” He had a huge smile on his face then he stood up and reached out

for my hand. I gladly took it and walked out of my room.

We walked down the steps together, hand in hand, and walked into the kitchen.

I went to pull my hand away from his when we reached the dining room. Ian stopped

fast and looked at me. His eyes were filled with worry.

“Why don’t you want to hold my hand?” He seemed very upset by that.

“My mother, that’s all, I’m not sure for she would react to it.” I tried to sooth

him.

“It shouldn’t matter. She likes me and knows that we were in your room

alone.” His expression cooled down a bit.

I almost tore my lip off from biting so much. I looked into the dining room and

saw my mother setting the table. “If you trust her, then I will, too, let’s go.” I put on

my best smile and I pulled him to start walking again.

My mother stared at us and then down at our interlocked hands. She smiled

slightly and went back to putting the forks.

“What’s for dinner, mom?” I sat down in my usual set and Ian sat next to me.

“A skirt steak, baked potatoes and mixed vegetables, I hope you’re bothhungry.” Marie was still smiling, though our hands were under the table. He squeezed

my hand. I was kind of guessing he wanted me to tell my mom about us. I looked at

him. He nodded and looked ever so quickly at my mother.

I sighed and closed my eyes. “So, mom, do you have any clue about… uh… me

and um…Ian?” I opened my eyes to see her putting glasses on the table.

36

Page 37: my first story. :]

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/my-first-story- 37/46

She laughed. “Yeah, I guess, more than friends, right?” Marie didn’t stop

moving the whole time.

“Yeah, I guess you could but it that way.” I sighed and looked in the corner of

my eyes at Ian. He had a half-smile on my face and squeezed my hand again.

She was watching me. “What would you call it?”

“Uh… boyfriend and girlfriend is really what I would say.” I giggled at the

words. I felt Ian’s hand shaking. He was laughing, too.

“Oh, I see,” She turned her attention to Ian now. “Will you be around here

more then? I need to know what to expect now.” She was chuckling and sat down at

the end of the table.

“I will be if you don’t mind and if Aurelia wants me to.” He was smiling at me.

“Well, I’m sure she’ll want you here and I don’t mind so, I guess that’s a yes.”

She started cutting the steak and passing around the food.

Dinner ended quickly and Ian left right after.

“Good night, Marie, it was nice seeing you again. I’ll tell my mother you said

hi.” Ian smiled at Marie.

She smiled back. “Thank you, it was nice seeing you too. I’ll be upstairs,

Aurelia, good bye Ian.” Marie walked up the steps and into her bedroom, giving us

privacy I suppose. I faced Ian and grinned.

“Good night, Ian.”

“Good night, Aurelia, I love you.” The words made my heart jump.

“I love you, too.” My face turned red, I felt the warmth starting to come to my

cheeks. We met each other half way when he kissed me this time. Both of ours hands

was in each other’s and were down. The time, the kiss was more of a peck, short but

not that quick. He pulled away and walked out the door. I watched after him and

waved when he got in his car. I heard my mother come out of her room and stopped.

“Aurelia, I want to talk to you. Can you come up here for a minute?”

I turned around now. “Yeah, mom, I’m coming up now.” My feet where sort of

stiff, or so it seemed, but it wasn’t so bad. My mother was sitting on her bed when I

came in.

37

Page 38: my first story. :]

8/14/2019 my first story. :]

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/my-first-story- 38/46

I sat on the edge of her bed while she had her book in one hand. “What’s on

your mind, mom?” Like I didn’t already know.

“She took her glasses off and put her book down. “I know you like Ian and all

but, don’t you think it’s a little too fast? I mean you just met him again after so long.”

She was truly concerned about this; it was like it was writing all over her face.

“Mom, when we were together whatever many years ago it was, we were best

friends. I know him so well and he knows me the same way. We don’t feel like it’s too

soon. I guess it was about a week and a half we met again but, everything about him

came back into my head. He’s who I want to be with.” I tried to but everything I had

to say into one little speech.

Marie huffed out a buff of air. “If you think its okay, then I will trust you on

this, Aurelia. Just don’t rush things too much, please. You just started going out and

you’re already kissing!”

I laughed. “It’s normal for couples to kiss, mom. I know people who kiss right

when they say ‘yes’. I didn’t tell him I loved him until today, either. It was

uncomfortable for me to say it and he didn’t have a problem with it.”And I didn’t

need to say that he said it to me, though. “You don’t have to worry.” I started to head

for the door but turned around towards her. She had her mouth open as if she was

about to say something. “And if you are about to say something about us being ‘safe’,

you don’t have to worry about that either. I am defiantly not ready for anything more

than kissing for right now.”

She laughed. “You took the words right out of my mouth, I see that you are

sure this is going to work out so, I’ll trust you, like you said. Good night.”

“Good night, mom.” I headed for my door. That had gone easier than I thought

it would.

I took a 10 minute shower and turned on my laptop. I replied all of my friend’s

messages and talked to Raquel for an hour. When I was finally done, I went over to my

phone and sent a text to Ian. We talked for a couple of hours, through texting, and

then I went to bed. Before I fell asleep, I remembered, tomorrow was Saturday.

I woke up the next morning to my phone ringing next to me. Who would be

calling me at 10 o’clock on a Saturday? That’s absurd.

My face light up when I read the caller ID, Ian. I pushed the “talk” button and

slowly put it up to my ear.

“Hello?” My voice was quiet and scratchy when I spoke.

38

Page 39: my first story. :]

8/14/2019 my first story. :]

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/my-first-story- 39/46

“Wake up call for Aurelia, Good morning, princess.” I could hear the smile in

his voice.

I yawned. “Ahh, good morning.”

“You sound tired; did you sleep okay last night?”“Yeah, I just woke up though and I always yawn when I wake up.”

“Oh, I see, do you want to hang out today?” He sounded excited.

“Sure, what do you want to do?”

“Well, you can come over my house or I can come over your house or we can go

out somewhere. Take your pick.” He wanted me to come over his house.

“I’ll come over your house, I haven’t seen your family in a while and they

should be surprised to see us together.” I laughed.

He laughed, too. “Okay, do you want me to come pick you up?”

“No, that’s okay. Unless you want to, it doesn’t matter to me though.” Please

come pick me up, please please please!

“Okay, I’ll come get you, what time should I be there?” This plan was so

exciting to him. Well, I was excited, too, but not as much as him.

“It’s 10 so, come get me at about 10:45. I need time to get ready, plus, you can

have time to tell your parents.” I laughed again.

“Thanks, I’m going to need it. I’ll see you soon, bye. I love you.”

I sighed. “I love you, too, bye.” Then I hung up the phone and ran to my

mother’s room. She wasn’t there, I checked the kitchen, living room, and basement,

and she was nowhere. I stopped at the front door, there was a note.

Im going to be gone for the day. I have to go out to lunch with one of

my co-actors for the movie then go to the store. If you need to talk to me call

this number, it’s my cell 583-5639. Im not sure if you have it already. Love

you, Mom.

I read the note then called her. I told her where I was going to be today and

who I would be with, like it wasn’t obvious, and again, she had no problem with it. I

had a feeling that she wasn’t going to be having a problem with us at all, with an

exception for last night’s talk.

39

Page 40: my first story. :]

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/my-first-story- 40/46

Since there was no need to take a shower, there was no need to blow dry my

hair so that cut out two things I could do. It took me 15 minutes to straighten my

whole head, every single piece of hair was straight when I was done, and put clipped

my bangs to the side with my green clip. Then I put on my green and pink t-shirt with

denim skinny jeans and my matching pink Nike high-kicks. With my hair done, my

clothes and shoes on, my teeth brushed and my breakfast was eaten, I had 5 minutes

to spare. I pulled out my iPod and listened to my favorite band, singing along with

every song that came on. I knew every word to every song, I should have, and I

listened to that band more than any other. I heard a car pull up to the driveway then

a door slam shut. I leaned on the door until he rang the bell. I didn’t answer the door

right away, not wanting to make it seem like I was waiting. I wrapped my headphones

around my iPod and opened the door.

The smile on his face was brilliant, the sun shined off of his white teeth.

“Hello, Aurelia.” Ian was still smiling.

“Hi.” My voice was small.

“Are you ready to go?”

I gulped. “Yeah, let’s go.” I walked past him out the door but, I was stopped by

his arm at my waist, his mouth at ear.

“Are you okay?” His other arm around the other side of me, he was standing

behind me.

“I’m fine, I promise, if something was wrong you would be the first to know.”My voice sounded very convincing.

He released me, only holding onto my hand with his, and dragged me to his car.

He stopped to kiss me before I got in the car, the kiss was anxious and strong, like he

had been waiting for a while to do that and that he was trying to stop something. He

stopped it too soon, as if he was in a hurry. I stepped into his car, it ad black leather

on the side and the air conditioning was blasting. I had trouble with the seatbelt, the

damn thing kept on locking, and so, Ian reached over to do it for me. He smiled and

started the car. The roar of the engine wasn’t as load as I thought it would be. Ian

drove with one hand one the wheel, his other hand holding mine. I looked out thewindow most of the time, remembering streets and houses. The whole time there, he

was smiling, but he wasn’t watching me, he kept his eyes on the road the whole time.

We drove down to the end of the road to the dead end and I saw a big gate with a lot

of palm trees. There was a gate attendant when we pulled up.

40

Page 41: my first story. :]

“Welcome to the Michael’s home, how can I- oh, It’s you, Ian.” She smiled

widely.

“Hello, Catherine, This is my friend Aurelia,” He waved his hand at me. “Can

you open the gate for us?”

“Sure thing.” BEEP! The gate creaked as it opened slowly.

“Thanks Cat.” Ian flashed a quick smile to her then sped through the gate.

I looked at him, stunned. “Why do you have a gate and attendant?” I laughed.

He turned to me. “Safety purposes, I guess, but you live in a gated

community.”

I shrugged then looked back out the window. My heart started racing, I guess

that Ian felt it because he squeezed my hand.Without looking at me he spoke. “What are you so nervous about? My parents

aren’t going to bite you, though I can’t say the same about my little 3 year old sister.

Madison’s been biting a lot lately.” He laughed. “And my brother Ryan will probably

be in his room most of the time, he’s 13.” He looked at me.

“Okay, I’ll be careful of your sister then. Did I ever tell you I have a sister?”

“No, actually, you didn’t.”

“Her name is Liliana. Shes back in New York with my father’s sister. After my

father died, she went with my aunt for a little while. She just started preschool and

Marie didn’t want to take her out just yet, let her get used to the idea of school every

day.”

He pulled his eyebrows together. “That doesn’t make much sense, when is she

coming here?”

“Marie and I have to go to New York to get her next weekend. We’re going to

fly there and then bring her home with us.” Thinking of Liliana made my eyes water, I

missed her so much and when my father died, she didn’t understand he wasn’t coming

back. She hasn’t seen my mother in a while; I hope she won’t be scared or nervous.Marie has been setting up her room here, pink and purple walls with a white carpet.

Her closet is already stocked with beautiful clothes and shoes. Liliana has brown curly

hair like my mother; my father’s hair is straighter like me. She has brown eyes like my

father and I have blue eyes like Marie. “She is always happy and always has a smile on

her face. She loves me so much. Every day when I got home from school, she would

run up to me and reach her arms up for me to hold her. She would snuggle her head

under my chin and wrap her arms and legs around me, holding her there. I miss her so

much.”

“You’ll be with her soon.” He put a half smile on. “You don’t need to cry.” The

smile left his face. I didn’t realize that a tear fell down my face. Ian wiped it away

with his hand. We were parked in front of a big house with white stone. He camearound to my side of the car and opened the door for me and grabbed my hand.

“Let’s go.” Ian smiled again.

Chapter 8

Ian opened the front door and dragged me inside. I heard the T.V. coming from

the living room. Ryan was on the couch watching some cartoon.

“Wow, it’s so bright and open.” The living room was open to the kitchen thenthe kitchen was open to the dining room, which came back to the entry way. The

living room’s walls were painted a pale blue color to match with the pattern on the

rug. The whole floor had hard wood floors, a medium colored wood, and the living

room had the same color wood as the floors. There were a lot of windows; it made

the house very light. Ian pulled me into the kitchen. The counters were a white

marble and dark colored wood, darker than the floor. The walls were a light gray; the

color was in the counters.

I felt Ian’s eyes on me. I turned to him. “Do you like it? We just had it re-

done.”

I nodded my head. “It’s beautiful.” I held onto Ian’s hand the whole time. He

walked back into the living room, standing behind the couch.

“Where’s mom, Ryan?”

Ryan bent his head back to Ian. Then he fixed his position and looked at me

then back at Ian. “Who’s she?”

“My friend but, you didn’t answer my question.”

He looked back at me. “She left a little while ago.”

“Then where’s dad?” Ian was becoming annoyed.

“I woke up and he wasn’t here.” Ryan turned back to the T.V.

Ian’s eyes grew wide. “Then where’s Madison?!”

“Um…upstairs I think.” Ryan kept his eyes on the T.V.

“Ryan! She’s 3 years old, you have to watch her!” Ian let go of my hand and

flew up the stairs. I stayed behind the couch, watching the stairs, waiting for Ian tocome back down.

“So who are you?” Ryan was watching me now.

“Aurelia, you should remember who I am.” I didn’t move my eyes from the

stairs.

Ryan turned his whole body towards me. “I should?”

I looked at him now. “Yes, my mom is Marie. My mom knows your parents.”

“Oh, I kind of remember you now.” He turned back to the T.V.

Ian came down the stairs with Madison in his hands. He smiled as I looked athim holding her. She had her face hidden in his chest. “This is Madison. She’s very

shy.” He pulled her away from his chest so I could look at her.

I smiled at her. “Hi Madison, I’m Aurelia.”

Her hands were covering her face. She moved he fingers so she could peak

through at me. “Hi.”

“You want to go play, Madison?” Ian turned her back to him.

Madison pulled her hands away from her face and he placed her on her feet. She ran to the pink chest at the far end of the living room. She pulled out a baby doll

and ran back over to me. She stopped two feet in front of me and held out her doll.

“Is that for me?” My voice was very soft and gentle.

Madison nodded her head rapidly and shook the doll in front of me. I took the

doll out of her hands and held it. She giggled and ran over to Ian.

“I want my juice.” Her voice was high soprano and she was jumped up and

down.

“Okay, come on.” Ian grabbed my hand and pulled me into the kitchen with

him.

Ian walked over to the dishwasher and pulled out a juice cup with a top on it. I

followed him around the kitchen. He took a container of apple juice out of the

refrigerator and poured some into the cup and then added some water in it. He shook

the cup and gave it to Madison, who was standing behind him. She ran back into the

living room with her cup in her hand.

“You’re a natural at it.” I laughed.

“I’ve done it enough times. I should be an expert.” He joined in. “Do you want

to see my room?” He said suddenly.

I stopped laughing. “S-sure.” Ian took my hand again and pulled my close to

him. He wrapped his arms around me and kissed me, it was very urgent. I pulled my

arms up around his neck; I was on my tippy toes. Ian’s lips moved gently against

mine. My lips turned up into a smile and I heard Ian laugh through his lips. Then they

were gone. Where did they go? I opened my eyes and Ian’s head was turned to the

archway into the kitchen. There stood Madison with her doll in her hand. Her mouth

was open to a little circle. The doll dropped out of her hand and she ran out of the

room and up the stairs. We ran up the stairs after her. There were little cries coming

from the small bathroom. Ian pointed to the bath tub and sighed. He pulled the

curtain open and Madison was sitting with her head on her knees and her arms

wrapped around her legs.

“What’s wrong, Madison?” Ian was rubbing her head.

“Y-you’re m-my Ian. I d-don’t want t-to share.” She lifted her head up and

looked at Ian. Her face was beat red and wet from her tears.

“Aw, Madison, I’ll always be your Ian.” He voice was soothing.

She shook her head. “Aurelia w-will b-be yours.”

“I can’t have a friend?”

She didn’t say anything, she only stared at Ian.

“Can we share Ian?” It sounded silly for me to say that, sharing Ian, like he was

a toy.

Madison looked at me and then threw her arms out for me to hold her. I looked

at Ian, he laughed and then nodded. I went back to Madison, her eyes were wide and

her arms were shaking. I picked her up and stood. Her legs were on either side of me.She put her head on my shoulder and her arms down to her sides. I stared at Ian, what

was I supposed to do? He moved his hands in circles, telling me to continue what I was

doing. I rocked back and forth and walked down the hall with Madison. I stood like

this until Madison moved to whisper to me. “I can share. I share only with you.” She

turned her head back and looked at Ian and he gave her a little smile. It faded

quickly. I stood there for a little while, in Madison’s room, rocking her back and forth.

Ian sat in the rocking chair in the far end of the room. She turned her head back to

me and her eyes were closed. I turned to look at Ian.

He mouthed the words “Sleeping” to me.

I mouthed back “What do I do?”

My eyes were wide. Ian pointed to the small toddler bed against the wall. I

turned to it and put Madison down on it. I put her blanket on top of her and watched

her curl up into a ball with her teddy bear. Ian came up behind me and put his hands

around my waist. I held his hands there with mine. I walked out of the room with Ian

around me, his head on my shoulder.

“That was weird.” I waddled back and forth as he guided me to his room, down

the stairs to the basement. He had his chin on my shoulder and his arms tightly

around my waist.

“She likes you, a lot; you’re going to be her new best friend.”He smiled.

“Fabulous, A 3 year old best friend.” A 3 year old best friend, it made me think

of Liliana.
