CREATE AN UNASSIGNED RECTANGULAR FRAME

Click and drag with theRectangle tool to create anunassigned rectangular frame Press the Shift key when

dragging to create a squareframe

Unassigned frames are oftenused as graphic elements byadding a stroke and/or fill

Convert an unassigned frameinto a graphics frame or textframe by choosing Object >Content > Graphic or Object >Content > Text (the frame mustfirst be selected)

Drag a selected object to move it

Press the Shift key when draggingto constrain movement tohorizontal, vertical, and 45º angles

If an unassigned frame has no fill,you must click and drag its edgeor center point to move it

An object’s X and Y coordinatesare displayed as you drag

RESIZE OBJECTS

Click and drag any of an object’s eight resizing handles to resize it Press Ctrl+Shift (Windows) or Command+Shift (Mac) while dragging to proportionally

scale the object and its content (text or graphic) Object’s width and height are displayed as you drag Scaling and resizing an object are not the same

ADD A STROKE TO AN OBJECT

Before you apply a stroke, click the Stroke box in theTools or Swatches panel

Use the Stroke panel to specify stroke width, stroke type,and other settings

Use the Swatches panel to change the color of the stroke

Basic stroke controls (width, style, and color) are alsoavailable in the Control panel

Each time you create an object,it’s placed above/in front of otherobjects on the page

Arrange commands (Object menu)let you change the position of anobject in the stacking order Bring Forward and Send Backward

move the object one level in thestacking order

Bring to Front and Send to Backmove the object to the top/bottom ofthe stacking order

MANAGE OBJECTS USING LAYERS

You can use layers to organizeobjects on a page. For example,you can create a layer for textframes and a layer for graphicsframes. Create a new layer bychoosing New Layer from theLayers panel menu

To place selected objects on adifferent layer, click the blue squarein the Layers panel and drag it tothe target layer

To create a copy of an object, press Alt/Option while dragging Add the Shift key to constrain movement to 45º angles Other options for creating copies:
