Summer Term 2 2016 Junior memory Championships The year 6 children participated in the annual memory championships and once again we had a finalist! Erin Summersgill attended the grand final at London Zoo and placed 14th. This is an amazing achievement as thousands of children enter the competition. Erin was a great ambassador to school. Congratulations Erin! Sports Awards Kacey Eyeington attended an awards ceremony at Middlesbrough Football Club last week and was awarded the Under 11 Sports Leader for Stockton Schools. This was in recognition of the work Kacey has done in school with the cycling festival. She helped to organise the fun day that years 3 and 4 participated in – planning many of the activities and experiences. Kacey is always an excellent ambassador for Myton Park when we attend competitions. Reading Books If you have any reading books, or any other resources at home, please could they come back ASAP ready for the holidays? Many thanks Summer Fair Many thanks to all of our volunteers and helpers who were involved in organising the fair. We have a very proactive group who work to make a difference. The fair rose an amazing £940 for school funds. Many thanks to those of you who came to the fair and to those families who brought their dogs to the dog show – definitely a great success that the children enjoyed immensely! Uniform Following some requests from parents, the Governing Body have agreed to add smart, tailored shorts to the school uniform for girls from September 2016. The girls will be able to wear culottes or smart tailored shorts from uniform ranges. Fashion shorts will not be permitted. We would also like to remind you of the importance of the need to make sure that the children do come to school in full uniform, with the appropriate shoes. In supporting our uniform expectations, you are teaching your child to respect the rules and expectations; an essential skill for the work place in later life. Results 2016 You will be aware of the changes to education over the last few years and the raised standards that are expected of the children. I am pleased to announce that our outcomes continue to be excellent; a reflection of the hard work from pupils, staff and yourselves to ensure their potential is reached. Levels no longer exist and the outcomes are measured in terms of whether or not the children have reached the expected level or not. In Early Years (This is our reception class) 67% of our children reached the outcome across the board. In phonics –

Queens’ Birthday Celebration We celebrated the Queens’ birthday in school. As the children are living through a piece of history, we felt it was important to do something a little bit different. The children took part in a Myton’s got talent, they enjoyed a shared picnic and they had a demonstration on old fashioned sweet making in the school hall. In addition, the theme for Grandparent’s afternoon was all about the Queen, her reign and her family. The Grandparents loved it – as did the children. Health and Fitness Week The children had a busy week with Hoopstarz, Sports Day and our won Road to Rio workshop which included an opening and closing ceremony. Each class learned a dance to perform from a country that will participate in the Olympics. They worked really hard. The children in Year1 and 2 had a healthy eating session with Phunky foods and made some delicious looking shakes. Many thanks to Mrs Boddy and Mr Busby for organising the events. Spots Events Several children in Year 5 and Year 6 represented our school in the Stockton Athletics Festival at Middlesbrough Sports Village. We were delighted that 3 of our children qualified to represent Stockton. Mason Harris won the Gold in the Sprint, Kacey Eyeington won 2nd in the Howler (a throwing event) and Liam Milburn came 4th in the hurdles. The relay team came 2nd – a fabulous performance from all involve. In cricket the children visited Headingley to watch Yorkshire take on Pakistan. Cycling Festival The children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in our cycling activities. Mike Clay, an artist from Sunderland came into school for a week to work with the children on developing a display for the National Cycle Race Route. He was very impressed with the children and said Myton Park was the nicest school he had ever worked in! We were so proud of how the children did and are now proudly displaying their work in the playground. Mr Coles has taken 2 of the characters to use as scarecrows! Volunteers We have a fabulous group off volunteers in school who come to do a variety of jobs. Gardening, baking, reading and fund raising. If you can spare any time – even if it is half a day a month or a fortnight – do be in touch. We welcome family members, so do let Mrs Mather know if you can offer any help at all. We would also like volunteers who can offer their expertise and enthusiasm to helping us in educating the children about festivals from different cultures – Chinese New Year, Eid, Diwali. Do let us know if you are interested and do feel free to suggest any festivals or celebrations that are special to your own families.

Class News Nursery This half term we have been talking about journeys we make. We have enjoyed reading “we’re going on a Bear Hunt” and acting out the story. We have used our imagination to make vehicles to travel to different places such as the seaside, McDonalds and the shops and have shared our ideas and listened to others. We have visited the local area to look at different shops and have bought ingredients to make smoothies and pizzas. We have enjoyed meeting our new families and look forward to working with them in September. We wish our older children who are moving to Reception and new schools well. Reception Reception have been very busy this half term. We have been learning lots and getting ready to move in to Year 1. We had our class assembly in June to tell people all about our learning and life in Reception. We also took part in our first Grandparents afternoon. Our teachers were impressed with our big voices for saying lines and singing. In July it was health and fitness week. We had our first sports day with the big school (we were fantastic) and we joined in with the school Olympic Opening Ceremony. We enjoyed learning the national anthem and painting pictures of the Queen. We have also been learning about trains and have enjoyed writing about Chuggington. In our learning about emergency vehicles we wrote facts about police cars and ambulances. In maths we have been focussing on adding and taking away. We needed to use all our learning about numbers and place value to help us. Thank you to all parents and carers for your support this year. This includes parents helpers, attendance at workshops, contributions to Reception Fund, coming in to talk to the children about your jobs, helping with Max' diary, coming on Season walks, writing in reading records, helping the children with spellings and action words, helping with homework and many many more things! Please help the children over the Summer by reading regularly and doing simple maths activities such as counting, naming shapes and sharing. This will help them when returning in September. The children would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you and good bye to Mrs Ball. The children have all enjoyed having her as one of their teachers this year and she will be missed. Good luck in your new job Mrs Ball! Year 1 We have really enjoyed our last half term in Year 1. We had a fantastic time on our trip to the beach and wildlife centre. Health and Fitness week was a great success. We loved taking part in Sports Day and particularly enjoyed our Olympic Day. Our cheerleading dance was fantastic!!! We enjoyed showing you all of our work at our family assembly and got to sing our favourite song again on Grandparents Afternoon. Thank you all for your support this year. Have a fantastic summer. Year 2 We enjoyed food week, finding out about ingredients and where they come from. We also enjoyed baking again. Our class assembly went really well and we were very proud of our grandparents afternoon song. We have also enjoyed gardening and visiting the library. Our collage beach towel designs were really colourful and we are looking forward to our visit to Teesmouth. Sport’s week was great and we all liked Hoopstarz. Year 3 The children in Year 3 have had a busy half term so far and are enjoying continuing their topic on “Ingleby vs Whitby”. They had a fantastic time on their trip to Whitby, the sun shone as the children explored the town and enjoyed an ice-cream by the sea. They were in awe when they saw the abbey up close and were able to draw in their learning when exploring it. Last half term the children created their own paintings of Whitby and this half term the children made and decorated their own frames for them. They are now being proudly displayed in school. We enjoyed performing our class assembly and hope that everyone who watched it could see how hard the children had worked and how much they are enjoying their learning.

In English, the children have been studying a range of humorous poems and have planned and wrote their own based on one they studied. They found it amusing thinking of ways I could be eaten by a monster!! Year 4 We have continued our topic studying Ingleby Barwick and Whitby. As part of our topic we went to Whitby, visiting numerous landmarks, including Whitby Abbey. Year 4 have continued to work hard in English studying Bram Stoker’s Dracula as well as learning poetry including Kennings. In Maths we have consolidated our learning in key areas including multiplication, division and co-ordinates. Year 4 took part in Sports Day, playing a variety of games testing their sporting skills. I was really pleased with their enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon’s activities. I would like to with the year 4’s and their friends and families a relaxing summer holiday. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Year 4 for being a truly fantastic class and wish them well for the future. Year 5 I cannot believe we are at the end of the year already!! Year 5 have kept up their hard work right to the end of term and I am really proud of them for that. They showed great maturity during Health and Fitness week especially talking about the importance of keeping clean and getting enough sleep. We had a great, albeit soggy day at Headingley Cricket Ground and the year 5 behaviour was to be commended. In English, we wrote some pretty difficult tasks for Hercules to add to the original 12 in the Ancient Greek Myth. I have loved working with Year 5 this year; they have had a great attitude towards learning and have matured so much. They are all now ready to face the challenge of Year 6, after a well-deserved summer break!! Thank you for all the support from home this year. Well done Year 5, I will miss you!!! Year 6 We are so proud of our fantastic Year 6 children. They have had a busy last half term at Myton Park. They have all been involved in our cycling project - some have learnt new skills with our workshops in school, some have had a chance to try out Stockton’s street Velodrome and watch BMX skills and some have worked with an artist to produce exhibits for the British Cycling Festival. Year 6 organised a whole school science fayre based around SPACE. Every child from Nursery to Year 5 had the opportunity to visit and try our investigations. We have also been getting ready for our move to Secondary Schools with transition visits. We really do wish them well. Many thanks for your continued support. We wish you all a wonderful summer and hope you manage some rest and relaxation with loved ones – and a little bit of sunshine!
