PREFACE

Access to education has been one of the most pressing demands.

Education a women is the need of the hour. Without educating the

women a country cannot become developed nation, as women

constitute almost half of the population in the country. Here it is not out

of place to quote Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru “If you educate a man you

educate an individual, however, if you educate a woman you educate a

whole family.”

Women Education in India has also been a major pre-occupation

of both the government and civil society. Education of Women includes

areas of gender equality and access to education and its connection to

the alleviation of poverty. The 2011 Census Report indicates that the

rate of literacy among women is only 65.5 %. It is virtually dishearting to

observe that the literacy rate of women in India is much lower than

national average i.e. 74.0%.

The growth of women-education is low in rural areas. Our

institution, being exclusively for women education has been making

tireless efforts to enhance access to UG and PG education to thehitherto neglected sect of society. Our institution aims at imparting

value based quality education.

This institut ion is located in a semi-urban area, Srikalahasti in

Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh. From the day of its inception, the

institution has been catering to the educational needs of the down

trodden women. The college has been assessed and accredited by

NAAC at B+

Level in February, 2006 and transferred into a premierWomen’s educational institution. PG course in Commerce has been

started during the academic year 2012-13 and permission is accorded to

start PG courses in English, Telugu and Zoology. Efforts are underway

to expand more facilities to meet the future needs. At this juncture it is

pertinent to get reassessed and reaccredited by NAAC. In this process

of self-introspection, we would like to exhibit our strengths so as to

chalk out a perfect plan to expand vast growing opportunities to

women in the sphere of higher education.

The Principal and the Co-coordinator are highly indebted toour Commissioner of Collegiate Education, Smt. K.Sunitha, I.A.S., who is

a guiding force for us in this endeavour of Reaccreditation. We sincerely

thank Dr. JAGADEESH and Sri. Srinivas, Academic Cell Office of the

Commissioner of Collegiate Education, Hyderabad, and Dr. R. Rajendra

Reddy, Principal (Rtd.), Govt. Degree College, Palamaner for orientation

and valuable regarding guidance he preparation of Re-accreditation

Report. We are thankful to the Members of CPDC, Alumni, Staff and

students for their support in the Reaccreditation process.

7 .3. BEST PRACTICES:

7.3.1. Elaborate on any two best practices as per the annexed format which

have contributed to the achievement of the Institutional Objectives

and/or contributed to the Quality improvement of the core activities of

the college.

Best Practices:

A Best Practice is a technique that has consistently shown results

superior to those achieved with other means and that is used as a bench

mark. So best practices at college are identified as effective mechanisms that

lead to improved students performance.

Th e Best Practices of ou r inst i tut ion are th e fol low ing :

Assembly

Procedure: Academic activities in the college begin with assembly on every

working day in uniform, where all the staff and students are

present between 9.45A.M and 10.00 AM in a fixed place. The

students Chairperson lead the programme. The programme starts

with Vandematharam sung by all students and staff. Then students

are given an opportunity to speak on any topic of their interest

on modern scientific development , Literature, current affairs etc.

for five minutes. Principal addresses the Assembly and some

important announcements are also made. The Assembly disperses

after singing ‘National Anthem’.

Goal: Assembly is conducted in the college with a common goal to

achieve good results with regard to the all round development of

students.

To enhance the confidence levels of students

  To inculcate leadership qualities.

To inculcate the spirit of Nationalism and Patriotism in the minds

and hearts of the students.

To prepare the students to face interviews by improving

Communication skills.

Results:

By giving an opportunity to speak in the assembly, the institution

encourages the young minds.

Public speaking is a unique valuable skill to possess that helps in

building Self-confidence.

Assembly provides a good opportunity to meet all – students and

staff at one place. It is a symbol of unity.

  It promotes value based education.

Assembly and public speaking provides platform for both studentsand staff to share information.

Problems:

The Assembly takes place in an open air ground, which gets

cancelled due to inclement weather.

Many students who come to college from nearby villages

sometimes miss the programme due to conveyance problems.

II Blood D ona tion

Blood is considered to be the living force of our body. There is

tremendous demand for blood in hospitals. Many patients die because

they are not able to cope with the loss of blood. Realizing the

importance of Blood donation students of our institution, though small

in number have come forward to donate blood. The institu tion is

participating in blood donation camps attached to Govt. Hospitals

from this academic year.

N eed for Blood D onation

The blood donated is used to replace blood loss during injury as

in accidents

Replace blood loss during major surgeries

Help patients with blood disorders like Haemophilia survive.

Help burnt patients receive plasma (plasmas separated from

blood stored up to 1 year) that may be critical for their survival

Raise hemoglobin levels through transfusions in patients with

chronic ailments like kidney disorders, cancer, and anemia.

Goals :

To remove the rampant myths regarding blood donation.

To educate the prospective donors of the society through our

students.

To motivate the students regarding donation blood which involve

Preliminary health check-up , screening for infection, blood

grouping and knowledge about the health history of an

individual.

To educate the prospective donors regarding the benefits of

blood donation.

To educate and counsel them regarding screening done for

blood donations , eligibi lities and restricting conditions for blood

donations.

Results:

During pre-donation screening many cases of anemia are reported.

Some immediately responded for voluntary blood donations.

They are motivating their peer groups experience they have gained.

The institu tion hopes to get better results in the coming future.

Problems:

Many had apprehensions about post – donation weaknesses.

Most of the students have rural background and fear to donate

blood. So lot of reiteration is needed.

W all M aga zine:

Wall Magazine has been started during th is academic year. The

students are asked to write poetry (Telugu, English or Hindi), draw pictures,

Collect quotations and keep on the wall for 15 days. The Wall Magazine is

named as “PEARLS“

Page 91: NAAC 2013-14 Dt 24-2-2014

Goals:

To increase Self-Confidence of students.

To nurture the leadership qualities.

To encourage the students to think differently/ creatively.

To bring out the hidden talents in students.

To share the good things as our institution believes in ‘A thing of

beauty is joy for ever’.

Results:

Results are amazing as different dimensions of the students are

coming into light.

Problems:

No problems have cropped up as the students are very much

interested and eager to exhibit their talents.
