Network Status

• 53 Active Sites • 3 New sites:– Georgia Station, GA41– Logan, UT01– Salt Lake City, UT97

• No sites were shutdown since last update

Data Availability

• 35 AMoN sites collocated with CASTNET• 145 site-years available• Site photos available on the AMoN website• Bi-weekly replicate samples or triplicate

average concentrations– Triplicates at 5% of the sites– Travel blanks to all sites

Independent QA

• Independent audit SOW now includes identifying any violations to the siting criteria at AMoN (and AMNet) sites that are collocated with CASTNET, NTN, MDN or AIRMoN

• Contractor will also take photographs of the site and submit to the PO

Contribution of NH3 to “total” N deposition

• Caveats!!!– Average annual NH3 dry deposition calculated

from:• 2011 bi-weekly concentrations (AMoN) • 2002 weekly CMAQ vd’s

– CASTNET/NTN wet and dry deposition estimated from 2009 total deposition (annual)

Bi-directional flux

• 2002 annual simulation with bi-directional science option in progress

• 2006 annual simulation will be next• Work with ORD to understand how we can use

bi-weekly NH3 (and hourly Hg) concentrations with the bi-directional deposition velocities to estimate flux at AMoN/AMNet sites

Special Studies

ACCS UpdateNOx/SOx Secondary Standard Field Pilot Program

Ammonia CASTNET CSN Study (ACCS)

• Two journal articles – NH3 comparison between AMoN, URG denuders,

MPPDs in Super SASS– Ion comparison between CASTNET filter pack, URG

denuders, Super SASS canisters (CSN)• Final data being QA’ed• Schedule – mid-summer, early fall submittal

NOx/SOx Secondary Standard Field Pilot Program Implementation

• Final Rule announced on March 20th - no new standard set• Proposal to implement a Field Pilot Program (FPP) to enhance understanding of the level of

protectiveness we could expect from a multi-pollutant standard• 3-5 eco-regions to be selected• 5 year program to address uncertainty in developing a standard based on eco-region specific

AAI values• Standard measurements at proposed FPP sites include:

– CASTNET filter pack (SO2, SO4) – direct input to the AAI– Continuous NOy – direct input to the AAI as total reactive N

• Additional measurements may be added to some sites to complement these basic measurements– NTN – AMoN– PM2.5 speciation

– Total NO3 from the CASTNET filterpack

– Continuous SO2

– True NO2
