Goals For Improvements•Worlds and National Events:• To make it exciting for owners so they come• Inspire them for the reminder of the year to

produce for themselves• Resulting in more production/income for ATA

• To participate in more events that give the owner results that impact their school• Also resulting in more production/income for ATA

• Regional Training:• All needed training is available at regional level

•Make More Overall Income from events:• The total of all events should be increased 20-50%

Page 3: National Seminar Plan Draft

Prior Suggestions1. Offer ProTech Certifications regionally

and have multiple 1 hour (or 75 min) refresher/intro courses on EVERY ProTech course• Improves ProTech distribution and allows for

updating worlds schedule.

2. Change Worlds Schedule• Per alternate schedule options attached

3. Use Worlds as a Pre-Sell Opportunity• Worlds should promote all divisions and present

opportunities for sales for year.

Page 4: National Seminar Plan Draft

• The Keynote Address would bring an additional speaker – maybe a Master’s Council member but preferably someone from outside the ATA to reinforce the overall themes we want to promote. • Examples: Tony Robbins, Gene Simmons, Jhoon Rhee…• www.keynotespeakers.com has many options for a

reasonable price.

• Business/Instruction:• 6 Business and 5 Instructor Slots…

• Can be shifted and reorganized like ProTech

• At Nationals, these may be reallocated based on need/popularity • Simplification: The same seminars should be

Part II: Regional Seminars• Instruction and Business Seminars…• Current plan and updates

• Regional ProTech Seminars• Current and future suggestions

Part II: Regional Seminars

Page 23: National Seminar Plan Draft

Instruction and Business Seminars• Current Plan is to schedule 16 each (Biz & Inst) per

year• 4 per quadrant of the country per year

• Current Income model: $99 with a $99 WMA Credit• Net for seminars approximately 50% less travel &

expenses• Gross Income Estimate: $48,000• (16 Business + 16 Instruction) X $50 X 25 Participants=48,000

• Goals• Improve regional instructors production• ATA-regional relations• Build regional growth plans

• Future: Continue 16 each – total of 32 per year• NOTE: This was possible because ATA has taken control of scheduling

seminars rather than waiting for regions to request them.Part II: Regional Seminars

Page 24: National Seminar Plan Draft

ProTech Seminars• Regional Average Seminars per year: 14 (2006-2009 Average)• Current pricing $220• Note: Average income per attendee: $255 (why is this higher?)

• Average per region: .53 per region per year• Problem: It’s very hard to get all 27 seminars• Example: If an instructor took 4 seminars per year (which is higher than

the maximum based on average offered in a region), it would take 6.75 years to get all seminars in• If recertification is every 3 years it’d be impossible to recertify with a seminar

(excepting ProTech camp)• Future• Need to increase regional seminars to 1-3 per region• Need to spread all seminars out over a 5 year period so it’s possible to

get the range of seminars in their region or adjacent region• Method: Use same seminar scheduling team as the Inst & Biz seminars

Part II: Regional Seminars

Page 25: National Seminar Plan Draft

ProTech Seminars•Calculating How Many We Need:• 30 seminars (including growth to more seminars)• 26 regions 4 quadrants = 6.5 regions per Quadrant• Plan is to get all 30 in each quadrant • Average 1 seminar per region (26 total/yr) = 4.5

years to get all seminars within a quadrant• Average 1.5 seminars per region (52/yr) = 3 years• Average 2 seminars per region (52/yr) = 2 years

•Suggested Goals:• 2010 (Worlds)-2011 Goal: at least 1 seminar / region• 2011-2012 Goal: 1.5 seminar avg/region

Part II: Regional Seminars

Page 26: National Seminar Plan Draft

Part III: Income Comparison• Current (Historical):

• Based on averages and real numbers from 2006-present

• Proposed:• Very conservative estimate based on number of participants

and income. Net income should be higher because:• Seminars will be scheduled earlier (1 year in advance)• Participation should be higher because people can plan

ahead• Seminars will be sold at National Events!• Expenses should also be lower as flights and expenses can

be planned • We won’t add Black Belt Nationals as there is no basis for

comparison. Adding BB Nationals should increase regional participation as well – more chances to sell regionally.

Part III: Income Comparison

Page 27: National Seminar Plan Draft

Calculating Proposed Income• Tournament: $179,300• Total Income (Business / Inst / ProTech): $179,300• Worlds: $119,600

• Average Worlds Participants ProTech: 357• Average Worlds Participants (Non-ProTech): 150 (estimated)• Estimated Total Participants: 400 (many did both)• Total Income: 400 X $299 = $119,600

• Nationals (Fall + Spring): $59,700• Average Participants ProTech: 255• Average Worlds Participants (Non-ProTech): 75 (estimated)• Estimated Total Participants: 300 (many did both)• Total Income: 300 X $199 = $59,700

• Regional Seminars: $90,506• 1 Seminar Per Region (Average): $119,600

• Regions: 26• Average Regional Participants: 18.5

• Note: This should be much higher since we are scheduling in advance• Estimated Total Participants: 26 X 18.5 = 481 per year• Average Income Average per Participant: $188• Total Income: 481X $188 = $90,506 Part III: Income Comparison

Part III: Income Comparison

Page 31: National Seminar Plan Draft

Overall Issues• To make this work:• Worlds/Nationals must sell regional seminars• Seminar scheduling team needs to work together

• ProTech, Business and Instruction need to be scheduled with a “big picture” plan, not as individual separate entities.

• When a HQ representative calls a regional senior, they need to schedule ALL the classes which are planned for the region.

• Need to stay on task 18 months ahead of the schedule• Also have room for adaptation – adjust the schedule and plan based on regional

events, needs, etc. • Need to get schedule of ProTech staff instructors and decide how to schedule this

large group

• ProTech/Other Seminars need to be evenly distributed• Overall plan needs to work towards access for all needed seminars

over a reasonable period. (i.e. don’t just schedule a few types of seminars)

• Cross Sales should be done at each event

Page 32: National Seminar Plan Draft

Conclusions• Redesigning ProTech scheduling will…

• Improve Participation:• Get more instructors certified: availability locally + better planning & sales• Get more participation in more events at National Events• Get more instructors trained (increases weapons participation @ tourn.)

• Increase Income: 22% to 46% increase in ProTech income

• Redesigning Worlds Schedule will…• Make the International Instructor Conference more exciting• Make more income from pre-events (42% to 61% increase)• Make it much easier to handle registrations, etc…

• Pre-Sales at Worlds will…• Make more money for each division• Encourage new school development (ATA School Ops)• Increase attendance at all other events

Page 33: National Seminar Plan Draft

Difficult to Measure Results• We can “guess” these will happen…

• Business Courses• Motivate instructors to market and sell more = more $ for ATA• Improve communication with owners = happier owners• Increase cross sale of all items = more overall sales

• Improved ProTech Course Distribution• Will create more students who want to compete = more tournament $• Will create better trained instructors = more success in schools

• Booths at Events• Will create more schools, increase business in all divisions
