2013 was hottest year on record in Australia

Australia has just sweltered through its hottest year on record, according to the Bureau of Meteorology. Average temperatures were 1.20 degrees Celsius above the long-term average of 21.8C, breaking the previous record set in 2005 by 0.17C, the bureau said in its Annual Climate Statement. All states and territories recorded above average temperatures in 2013, with Western Australia, Northern Territory and South Australia all breaking annual average temperature records. And every month of 2013 had national average temperatures at least 0.5C above normal, according to the statement. The country recorded its hottest day on January 7 - a month which also saw the hottest week and hottest month since records began in 1910. A new record was set for the number of consecutive days the national average temperature exceeded 39C – seven days between January 2 and 8, 2013, almost doubling the previous record of four consecutive days in 1973. The highest temperature recorded during 2013 was 49.6C at Moomba in South Australia.

And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

2013 saw some amazing signs and wonders in the heaven above and the earth beneath. From quick-striking monster typhoons to slow-onset drought, natural disasters impacted the lives of millions of people around the world in 2013. Typhoon Haiyan tore through the central Philippines November 8, killing nearly 6,000 people. It was the strongest storm ever to have hit land. Just 3 weeks before the same place was hit by an earthquake that killed 222 people. In February an earthquake caused a tsunami in the Solomon islands. In the heavens we saw a meteor over Russia that exploded with 30 times more force than the Hiroshima bomb. It shone brighter than the sun! Just 16 hours later a second asteroid approached close to earth. What will we see in 2014?!

Is our Sun falling silent?

"I've been a solar physicist for 30 years, and I've never seen anything quite like this," says Richard Harrison, head of space physics at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire. He shows me recent footage captured by spacecraft that have their sights trained on our star. The Sun is revealed in exquisite detail, but its face is strangely featureless. "If you want to go back to see when the Sun was this inactive... you've got to go back about 100 years," he says. This solar lull is baffling scientists, because right now the Sun should be awash with activity. It has reached its solar maximum, the point in its 11-year cycle where activity is at a peak. This giant ball of plasma should be peppered with sunspots, exploding with flares and spewing out huge clouds of charged particles into space in the form of coronal mass ejections.

I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved

Jesus said there would be signs in the sun, moon and stars. Upon the earth distress of nations with perplexity. The sea and waves roaring. These things are both physical and literal. But also symbolic and spiritual. In other words we have seen the literal sea and waves roaring with incredible tsunamis. But we have also seen revolution and war as people symbolically crash against each other like violent waves. The Bible refers to people fighting like waves in a storm. We even use the phrase nowadays a “sea of people”. We have reports this week about the sun acting very strangely. Scientists say that the drop off in the sun’s activity is happening surprisingly quickly. They are now watching closely to see if it will continue to plummet. "It could mean a very, very inactive star, it would feel like the Sun is asleep.” says Dr Lucie Green, from University College London's Mullard Space Science Laboratory. The decline in activity is the fastest that has been seen in 10,000 years. What does this mean? It’s another sign….

‘Epochal' drought hits California's Central Valley

On the road into the small California farming community of Mendota the signs read “Stop – dust bowl!” and “Save Water” as farmers in orchards are busy bulldozing withered almond trees. It didn’t used to be like this here. Until recently this town of 11,000 people was proudly known as the “Cantaloupe Capital of the World”. Of all the many local crops its melons were most prized. Mendota’s farmers have been growing them since the 1920s, when Greek immigrants arrived and found the soil was perfect. The lush fields used to provide 70 per cent of America’s cantaloupes. But today Mendota is becoming known for another reason. It sits at ground zero in an unfolding, slow motion billion dollar disaster, what climatologists are calling an “epochal” drought. The region is experiencing a lack of rain not seen since 1580.

“Son of man, suppose the people of a country were to sin against me, and I lifted my fist to crush them, cutting off their food supply and sending a famine to destroy both people and animals. Even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were there, their righteousness would save no one but themselves, says the Sovereign Lord.

The scale of the drought is staggering. The Central Valley is known as the “breadbasket of America” and covers a vast area half the size of England. It produces 50 per cent of the fruit and vegetables in the United Sates. Unlike recent hurricanes and floods in the US there have been few startling images of this disaster. It is taking place over such a huge area that it is impossible to capture in the frame of a television screen. Records have been kept since the 1840s and last year was the driest yet. Some farm areas received less rain than Death Valley in 2013. The lesson of drought is made clear in the book of Job. “Drought and heat consume the snow waters: so doth the grave those which have sinned.” If we sin we are consumed by the grave as drought and heat consume water. As America pushes Israel to give up their land so we see America’s own land being devastated by drought. God - we read in the verse below uses drought to judge a country. It’s global warning not global warming.

8.2 magnitude earthquake strikes northern Chile

Five people were killed when a powerful magnitude 8.2 earthquake struck off northern Chile on Tuesday night, setting off a small tsunami that forced the evacuation of the country's entire Pacific coast. In the city of Antofagasta, 855 miles (1,375 kilometres) north of the Chilean capital, a tsunami warning siren rang out after the quake hit to evacuate people from coastal areas. In the city of Arica, people and cars could also be seen flooding onto the streets to move to higher ground. In nearby Peru, terrified people in the city of Arequipa ran onto the streets. Local residents could be standing around on the city's pavements holding their belongings. The US Geological Survey initially reported the quake at 8.0, but later upgraded the magnitude. It said the quake struck 61 miles (99 kilometres) northwest of the Chilean city of Iquique at 8:46 p.m. (23:46 GMT) hitting a region that has been rocked by numerous quakes over the past two weeks.

Israel to miss out on Blood Moon phenomenon

The scheduled appearance of four total lunar eclipses on major Jewish holidays between this Monday night (the start of Passover 2014) and September 27, 2015 (the start of Sukkot) has the attention of much of the Christian world. But the eclipses are going to go almost totally unseen in Israel. Total lunar eclipses - what are often referred to as “blood moons” - are not uncommon, 13 of them having occurred since 2000. Somewhat less common are tetrads - four consecutive total lunar eclipses with no intervening partial eclipses - which has occurred 62 times since the year 0 AD. Seven times in the past 2000 years, a tetrad has coincided perfectly with Passover and Sukkot. One of those tetrads began just prior to the outbreak of the Six Day War in 1967. Two others (in 1493 and 1949) began more than a year after the expulsion of the Jews from Spain and the State of Israel’s declaration of independence, respectively.

On Monday night there was the first of 4 blood moons. A sequence of 4 lunar eclipses. Lunar eclipses are fairly common. A series of 4 total lunar eclipses is not common. A series of 4 consecutive lunar eclipses is called a Tetrad. What is even less common is when the 4 consecutive lunar eclipses fall on Jewish feast days. Eg Passover or Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles). This set of 4 is only the 8 th set since the time of Christ. The last time a Tetrad occurred was in 1967. The first blood moon occurred just months before the outbreak of the 6 Day War. The time before was in 1949 – again during the war that broke out after Israel was declared a nation in 1948. The time before that was in 1493. In 1492 the Jews were expelled from Spain. We know God uses the sun and moon for signs. We also know that blood moons are a sign at the time of the end….

US: Tornadoes, dust storms and floods

The worst floods in decades deluged roads and engulfed homes and cars in Florida's Panhandle and coastal Alabama on Wednesday, the latest mayhem created by a tornado-packing storm system that has killed at least 34 people this week. Florida Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency for 26 counties inundated by as much as two feet of relentless rain over a 24-hour period, as severe thunderstorms raced across the northern part of the state. Emergency workers evacuated about 200 people in the Panhandle, Scott told reporters at an emergency operations center south of Tallahassee. "This is devastating to this part of the state," he told CNN. "No-one anticipated it would just keep on raining and raining and raining ... We thought it was going to move on out. "There have been 27 confirmed weather-related deaths and more than 200 people reported injured across Arkansas and Mississippi, as tornadoes reduced homes to rubble, shredded trees and launched vehicles into the air.

'Unprecedented' wildfires in California

Firefighters in San Diego County continued their four-day assault Friday evening against several wildfires that so far have scorched more than 31 square miles.Meanwhile, investigators filed an arson charge in one small fire in the county. The fires were extraordinary for their number so early in the year and for how close they came to residential and business areas, even torching several structures. Thousands of firefighters used air tankers, specially equipped DC-10s and military helicopter to douse the flames this week. A more-than-3,000-acre fire in San Marcos was all but out of control with only 10% containment Friday, authorities said. When Elisha Exon saw towers of smoke looming over her San Marcos, California, home, she knew it was time to go. The only problem: All the nearby places she'd normally take her family in an emergency were threatened by fire, too.

The study comes against the backdrop of what could to be a disastrous year for fires in the West, especially drought-plagued California, which even saw fires in the normally quiet month of January.” The Bible speaks of pillars of smoke and final judgement by fire at the end…

'Biggest dinosaur ever' discovered

Fossilised bones of a dinosaur believed to be the largest creature ever to walk the Earth have been unearthed in Argentina, palaeontologists say. Based on its huge thigh bones, it was 40m (130ft) long and 20m (65ft) tall. Weighing in at 77 tonnes, it was as heavy as 14 African elephants, and seven tonnes heavier than the previous record holder, Argentinosaurus. Scientists believe it is a new species of titanosaur - an enormous herbivore dating from the Late Cretaceous period.A local farm worker first stumbled on the remains in the desert near La Flecha, about 250km (135 miles) west of Trelew, Patagonia. The fossils were then excavated by a team of palaeontologists from the Museum of Palaeontology Egidio Feruglio, led by Dr Jose Luis Carballido and Dr Diego Pol. They unearthed the partial skeletons of seven individuals - about 150 bones in total - all in "remarkable condition

Take a look at Behemoth, which I made, just as I made you. It eats grass like an ox. See its powerful loins and the muscles of its belly. Its tail is as strong as a cedar. The sinews of its thighs are knit tightly together. Its bones are tubes of bronze. Its limbs are bars of iron. It is a prime example of God’s handiwork, and only its Creator can threaten it. It goes on to say no one can put a ring on its nose and lead it away – it existed when man existed

BIBLEQUOTE

(Job 40:15-19 NLT)

Lots of people ask – so when did the dinosaurs live? The answer is simple. After creation. Dinosaurs walked the earth not millions of years ago but at the same time as man – before the flood. The Bible tells you about dinosaurs! The Behemoth in Job 40:15-24. It “eats grass like an ox.” It “moves his tail like a cedar.” (In Hebrew, this literally reads, “he lets hang his tail like a cedar.”).Its “bones are like beams of bronze, His ribs like bars of iron.” “He is the first of the ways of God.” “He lies under the lotus trees, In a covert of reeds and marsh.” This is not an elephant or hippo which have short tails like a pig. It is a dinosaur - a type of Brachiosaurus. Leviathan is another dinosaur. It was a tall creature, raises himself up, makes a big wake in the water. This is not a crocodile. It is probably some type of Elasmosaurus. The clincher is that human footprints have been found alongside dino fossil tracks by the Paluxy River in Texas.

Behemoth = Brachiosaurus = Dinosaur

Ebola outbreak: We're heading towards a catastrophe

The health chief leading the fight against the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has warned it was spiralling out of control towards a “catastrophic” epidemic that could engulf the region. Margaret Chan, director general of the World Health Organisation, said the response to the disease had been “woefully inadequate” and it was “moving faster than our efforts to control it”. Her warnings - the starkest to date - were delivered to the leaders of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia as they held a crisis summit to discuss how to curb the crisis, which has now claimed at least 729 lives.“If the situation continues to deteriorate, the consequences can be catastrophic in terms of lost lives but also severe socio-economic disruption and a high risk of spread to other countries,” Dr Chan said, according to a transcript seen by the Reuters news agency of her remarks to the summit in the Guinean capital, Conakry.

WHO declares Ebola epidemic a global emergency

Nigeria became the latest country to declare a national emergency over the deadly Ebola virus on Friday, as the World Health Organisation called the epidemic that has claimed nearly 1,000 lives a global health crisis. Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan ordered the immediate release of 1.9 billion naira ($11.7 million, 8.7 million euros) to fund the fight against the disease as Africa's most populous nation confirmed two more Ebola cases, bringing the total number of infections to nine -- including two deaths. The WHO appealed for international aid to help afflicted countries after a rare meeting of the UN health body's emergency committee, which urged screening of all people flying out of affected countries in west Africa. It stopped short of calling for global travel restrictions, urging airlines to take strict precautions but to continue flying to the west African countries hit by the outbreak.

The Ebola epidemic is getting out of control. A Liberian man became the first person to be diagnosed with the deadly Ebola virus on US soil. This case in the US is thought to be the first outside West Africa involving this strain of Ebola. Ebola has a very high mortality rate of between 50% and 90%. Ebola is a gruesome disease that causes cells in the body to self-destruct, resulting in massive internal and external bleeding. In its late stages, Ebola can cause the victim to experience convulsions, vomiting and bleeding from the eyes and ears while convulsing, flinging blood all over the room and anyone standing nearby, thereby infecting those people as well. 10,000 new Ebola cases per week could be seen

West Africa could face up to 10,000 new Ebola cases a week within two months, the World Health Organization warned Tuesday, adding that the death rate in the current outbreak has risen to 70 percent. WHO assistant director-general Dr. Bruce Aylward gave the grim figures during a news conference in Geneva. Previously, the agency had estimated the Ebola mortality rate at around 50 percent overall. In contrast, in events such as flu pandemics, the death rate is typically under 2 percent. Acknowledging that Ebola was "a high mortality disease," Aylward said the U.N. health agency was still focused on trying to get sick people isolated and provide treatment as early as possible. He told reporters if the world's response to the Ebola crisis isn't stepped up within 60 days, "a lot more people will die" and health workers will be stretched even further. Experts say the epidemic is doubling in size about every three weeks.

Ebola: Famine approaches bringing fresh nightmare

Sierra Leone’s fields are without farmers. Its crops go un-reaped. In the quarantine areas, feeding is patchy – some get food, others don’t. People then leave the enforced isolation in search of a meal, so Ebola spreads. In three West African countries where many already live a hand-to-mouth existence, the act of eating is increasingly rare.Ebola, the virus that has ravaged Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea at an unprecedented rate, continues its devastating spread. The number of dead doubles with each passing month; the bodies unburied. More lives are devastated with each passing day. And in the absence of a mass-produced vaccine, its treatment – enforced isolation, mass quarantines – now threatens to bring a new crisis: starvation. Yesterday, as the World Health Organisation warned that more than 4,500 people would be dead before the end of the week.
