This course of study includes conventional medical training, naturopathic principles and therapies and 1500 hours of supervised clinical experience. Currently, the four recognized colleges in North America are: The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, The Southwest College of Naturopathy in Scottsdale AZ, the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland OR, and Bastyr University in Seattle WA. Graduates from these programs must pass standardized board examinations to be eligible for licensing in a regulated province or state. In Canada, naturopathic medicine is regulated in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. In Ontario, Naturopathy is not paid for by OHIP but many workplace benefit health insurance plans do reimburse a portion of care.
