Course Content The NEBOSH National General Certificate covers the main legal requirements for health and safety in the UK, identification and control of workplace hazards, and the practical application of this knowledge. The qualification is divided into 3 units, each of which is assessed separately: Unit NGC1 - Management of Health and Safety Foundations of Health and Safety Health and Safety Management Systems - policy Health and Safety Management Systems - organising Health and Safety Management Systems – planning Health and Safety Management Systems – measuring audit and review Unit NGC2 Controlling Workplace Hazards Workplace Hazards and Risk Control Workplace Transport Musculo-skeletal hazards and risk control Work equipment hazards and risk control Electrical safety Fire safety Chemical and biological health hazards and risk control Physical and physiological hazards and risk control Unit NGC3 – Health and Safety Practical Application Health and Safety Duration & Assessment Units NGC1 and NGC2 are taught units each assessed by a 2-hour written examination. Each written examination consists of 10 ‘short-answer’ questions and one ‘long-answer’ question. All questions are compulsory. Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH. Unit NGC3 is assessed by a 2-hour practical examination carried out in the candidate's own workplace.
