What does the qualification cover?The NEBOSH International General Certificate

(IGC) covers the principles relating to health and safety,identification and control of workplace hazards and thepractical application of this knowledge.

The IGC syllabus takes a risk managementapproach based on best practice and internationalstandards, such as the International Labour Organisation(ILO) codes of practice.

Local laws and cultural factors may form part ofthe study programme where relevant and appropriate.

The qualification also features a practicalworkplace assessment.

What does the qualification cover? Contd…The International General Certificate is divided

into three units, each of which is assessed separately:

1. Management of international health and safety (IGC1)

2. Control of international workplace hazards (IGC2)

3. International health and safety practical application

(IGC3)

How is it assessed?

Units IGC1 and IGC2 are taught units eachassessed by one 2 Hr written examination.

Each written examination consists of 10 ‘short-answer’ questions and 1 ‘long-answer’ question.

All questions are compulsory.

Candidate scripts are marked by externalexaminers appointed by NEBOSH.

How is it assessed? Cont..Unit IGC3 is assessed by one two-hour practical

examination carried out in the candidate's ownworkplace.

The assessment must normally be taken within 14days of a written examination.

The practical examination is internally assessed bythe course provider and externally moderated byNEBOSH.

When will I receive my result? Contd..For written examinations, the date by which the

candidate should receive a written result notification isstated on the candidate’s examination entry confirmation.

Certificate-level practical assessments must betaken within 14 days of a written examination so thepractical result will be included with the result for thewritten examination.

All results (including those for writtenassignments) should be received within ten weeks fromthe date of the examination or submission of assignment.
