Neelum valley: An introduction Neelam Valley is situated at the North & North-East of Muzaffarabad,

running parallel to Kaghan Valley

A newly built road makes approach easy to one of the most beautifulvalley of Azad Kashmir. The road is built up to Dowarian whereas

remaining part is yet to built. Roaring Neelum river runs parallel toroad throughout the valley, makes scenic views with lush greenmountains on both sides.

Rawalpindi Muzaffarabad (138 kms), Muzaffarabad Athmuqam (84Kms), Jagran(100 Kms, a road goes up towards jagran from Kundal

Shahi), Keran (93 Kms), Sharda (140 Kms), Kel (160 Kms), Taobutt (199Kms)

A regular bus and wagon service from Muzaffarabad to Kel is available.

After 74 kilometers drive from Muzzaffarabad, Kundal Shahi appearsnearby Authmuqam.

Upper Domail or Domail bala or

utli Domail From capital Muzaffarabad, drive to Kel 8-10 hours, then 3-4 hours Jeep

ride to upper Domel Village. from Kel to upper domail 20 kilometers(12 mi) jeep track .

Regular jeeps take Rs 100-120 per person for a one way ride while wholejeep can be booked in Rs 2000 3000 (as of 2009). Journey from Kel toUpper Domail is around 2 hours.

There is a small shop and a couple of restaurants where food and otheritems of local need are available.

Once the snow gets cleared, jeeps go up to the Shounter village the lastsettlement before Shounter pass after passing through upper Domail.

Chita katha lake is 5 kilometers (3.1 mi) hiking trek from upper domail.

Chita Katha lake Chita Khata Lake, located in Shounter, Neelum Valley, Azad Kashmir at an altitude of

4,100 meters (13,500 ft). Chitta in local language means White and Katha meanswater reservoir, so a reservoir of crystal clear water is all about lake.

Chitta Katha Trek Only accessible in July and August Chitta Katha Lake routefollowed by the tourists is through Kel. One the way to Lake there are two beautiful

streams at Shounter and at Chitta Katha. It is recommended to night stay in the village Utli Domail (as it is on the half way)

and start proceeding early in the morning. Ponies and horses are available from UtliDomail to access the lake against some fair prices.

From Upper Domail, the gentle walk up to the Chitta Katha village takes aroundthirty minutes. From the village, there are two options to reach lake. One goes alongthe Chitta Katha Nullah ,the other one takes a bit longer round. To use this trek,

cross the foot bridge on Nullah and follow the trail ascending up and remaining atthe right side of the rocky face of mountain.

If you are willing to hire a guide for the trek, ask for Luqman or Mushtaq from mainUpper Domail village.

Journey takes 4 to 5 hours for experienced trekkers, whereas it could be more thanthat for the new ones.

Sarawali Peak of Nanga Parbat

Complex Sarawali(toshe Ri 1) Peak also called Dabbar peak of Nanga Parbat

Complex rising at 6326 M (20,750 ft) being the highest of AJK . locatedin the extreme of Shounter Valley

From capital Muzaffarabad, drive to Kel 8-10 hours, then 3-4 hours Jeepride to upper Domel Village, then one full day trekking takes you tothis peak. For base camp It will be a full day return trek to the Sarwaliglacier from Domail.

Trek starts from the Domail bala(upper) to the left extreme and it is a

lovely trek. Behind this peak is Mazeno La and to the right side aftercrossing IFJAMU pass , the pass has never been crossed by anyone , onecan view the mighty Nanga Parbat after crossing the last tough ridgeline.
