I would like to extend appreciation to KPC and its subsidiaries for their instantaneous answer HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s call to salvage the bereaved Syrian nation that suffers a true humanitarian tragedy which words are unable to utter. This instant interaction with the Amiri call is pride not only for the oil sector but also for the Kuwaiti nation in general.I would like further to throw light on the practical steps which KPC has taken to underpin the concepts of social responsibility which emphasize the fact that KPC social role is as important as its economic role. These practical steps are epitomized in paying field visits by Public Relations and Media Department to a number of Ministry of Education’s schools which are tasked with rehabilitating students with special needs in order to review their progress and boost KPC support to such institutions.Furthermore, I would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to HH the Amir, HH the Crown Prince and HH the Prime Minister as well as all employees in the Kuwaiti oil sector on the occasion of the national days’ celebration, imploring Allah, the Almighty, to protect our beloved homeland Kuwait and preserve its dignity and luxury by the diligent efforts of its devoted sons.

Diesel Trade PatternsMiddle East Region is one of the main

net exporter regions in the World, as its

refining meets local demand and more

products are in surplus to be exported

to the outside markets. However, in

recent years there has been a transfor-

mation in the trade patterns as local

consumption is rising in response to

economic, industrial and population

growth as well as electricity consump-

tion is also expanding and especially

in Iraq, Saudi and Kuwait. Hence the

local requirement from diesel will be

growing from 300,000 BPD currently

to 600,000 BPD by 2020.

Unlike previous historical patterns, Ex-

ports from the Middle East are target-

ing various markets in bigger volumes,

it will reach 300,000 BPD into Africa

by 2020 from current levels of 200,000

BPD, and into Europe from less than

50,000 BPD now to a range between

100 – 200,000 BPD from 2020 on-

wards. However, imports into Asia will

remain low at around 200,000 BPD,

compared with historical levels with

Refining Expansion.

It is a known fact that Asia is a tradi-

tional market that absorbs the surplus

from the Middle East, but as Asia needs

are met mostly by growing new refin-

ing, Middle East Diesel have to find

new outlets which are mainly Europe

and Africa. This would mean that, only

companies that own new refining that

can yield higher valued diesel with

Spec. required by these markets are the

ones who can easily find and expand

outlets for its surplus diesel. This will

prove the importance of new projects

like clean fuel projects and new refin-

ery in Kuwait. However, any delay in

these projects would be considered a

big challenge for refiners in the future

in a competitive environment where

only refiners with flexibility will be

the distinguished ones that can have an

edge on other suppliers in the markets.

Moreover, the USA market have trans-

formed from a net importer market to a

net exporter market for diesel. This is

due to cheap light tight oil avails locally

which is being refined into high value

diesel which is in turn exported to vari-

ous markets including Europe and Lat-

in America and others. This has ensured

higher margins that made USA refiners

are the most fortunate in the world.

Despite the fact that Asian needs are de-

clining from diesel with new complex

refiners, but there will be some main

markets in Asia are very important in

diesel trade. These would include Indo-

nesia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Pakistan.

Meeting future spec in all markets in

line with clean environment, will be

the vital means and tactic to be com-

petent in the future to be able to meet

challenges. This trend includes to get

rid of the Sulphur in diesel output. Such

refiners will have the best prices and

opportunities in the market.

Market analysts identify some further

market that can represents an impor-

tant strategic opportunities for Ara-

bian Gulf Countries like Brazil, Mex-

ico, Australia, Philippines, Egypt, and

South Africa.

A recent study conducted by Faculty

of Nutrition, Suez Canal University

proved that having a quantity of wal-

nut – nearly the amount which one’s

palm can contain – after each meal

helps control the harm influences of

the fatty food against blood vessels.

Moreover, Dr. Emilio Rous, Head

of Fat Clinic at one of Barcelona’s

hospital in Spain conducted a study

on 42 adults who do not smoke and

enjoy normal blood pressure. He di-

vided randomly this number into two

groups; half of them suffer from a

somewhat high cholesterol levels;

whereas the other half enjoys normal

levels of cholesterol. He provided the

two groups with two meals; each of

them is served with sandwiches of

white bread stuffed with cheese, a

cup of full fat yogurt and four small

spoons of olive oil and 8 seeds of wal-

nuts.

The results of this study proved that

walnut and olive oil managed to re-

duce the percentage of immediate oxi-

dation and congestion of blood vessel

which take place after having meals

full of fats that lead to blocking the ar-

teries and causing cardiac diseases. In

addition, the amount of walnut which

was served with the meal helped keep

the flexibility and smoothness of the

blood vessels and arteries; moreover,

this amount of walnut reduced the

percentage of cholesterol in blood.

In fact, the scientific studies which

are incessantly conducted on walnut

prove that the latter is as important

as olive oil. They indicated also that

the flexible arteries may expand when

the body needs to increase the level of

pumping blood in vessels.

Dr. Rous clarified in a report pub-

lished in the bulletin of American

College for Cardiac Medicine that the

high percentage of fat which is avail-

able in meals causes inflammation

which reduces the flexibility of arter-

ies. However, having walnuts protects

from such inflammation; the matter

makes more flexibility; accordingly,

this lead to increasing the level of

pumping blood all over the body and

reducing the chances of being infected

with cholesterol.

Hot drinks and safe calories

In winter we need to have food and drinks which provide

the body with energy. In this season, the desire to have

fatty food which produces energy increases to provide

the body with high calories to warm the body; the matter

leads to increasing the weight undesirably.

In this context, nutrition experts advise having some

hot drinks in winter to increase protoplasm and keep the

body’s proper weight. These hot drinks include what fol-

lows:

1- Ginger

Despite its acrid taste, ginger is considered one of the

best hot drinks particularly in winter, as it produces the

energy which is required to warm the body. Add to this

the fact that it helps the body to give up the surplus calo-

ries; besides dissolving the accumulated fats and increas-

ing the rate of metabolism in the body.

It is distinguished with sharp odor which is used to fortify

the immunity system and get rid of poisons from the body

and relieve tension and headache. It is possible to add

sugar or honey to ginger to reduce the taste of acridness.

2- Hot chocolate

Cacao is distinguished with its delectable fatty taste. It

provides the body with low calories particularly when it

is served with low fat milk. Doctors advise having a cup

of cacao with breakfast meal daily in winter to provide

the body with energy; in addition, it is tasty and rich with

flavonols.

3- Hot herbal drinks

Some common hot drinks are preferable in winter among

which anise and mint that help to warm the body and

provide it with psychological tranquility which resists

the melancholy of winter which commonly hit people in

winter.

4- Lemon drink

Doctors advise drinking boiled lemon in winter be-

cause it is rich with vitamin C which resists diseases and

strengthens the immunity system; in addition to increas-

ing the rate of metabolism. Brown sugar or honey can

be added to lemon drink to get more energy and sweeten

its taste.
