We have certainly been treated to excellent speakers this year. There may not have been a formal thank you sent timely, so this note I hope will assure you how very much appreciated each of you were.

This year has shown such delightful growth for our organization, in both excellence of speakers and exhibits, in a new spacier meeting room, and a higher standard for the photos our members are contributing.

Each of you has contributed to this growth and each of you is more than appreciated for your efforts. Not only has our organization fl ourished in this talent of better photography, it has made a special mark on our community. Last year’s contribution to the Humane Society of St. Lucie Count of over $5000.00 is a goal for this year’s proceeds from our second annual “From The Heart” juried exhibition. I believe we have stepped above the ordinary in expanding our entire image as a photography group. With our current membership of over 100 thanking you for your contribution, you should enjoy the spotlight you have had at our meetings.

Thank you again for your time and sharing of your expertise. Please continue to join us at our meetings.

WHITE ELEPHANT PHOTO GIFT EXCHANGE

THE GIFTS: TCPC’s gift theme for our holiday party is a 8x10 print matted to a finished size of 11x14 and wrapped in gift paper. Each photographer/member that wants to participate has to bring in one of their own prints. As guests arrive to the party, the prints should be placed at the gift table. All efforts should be made to hide who brought which gift. Please print your name on the sheet at the gift table so we know who is participating in the game. The photo gift exchange will be open only to members, not spouses or other guests that are attending the party. If you aren’t familiar with the game, please read the rules below that we will be following since there are a lot of variations of this game.

________________________________________

THE GAME: 1. Each photographer who wishes to participate must contribute a gift…otherwise you can’t play the game. Everyone sits or stands in roughly a circle around the gift table.

2. Prepare slips of paper equal to the number of gifts with clearly written numbers. Be sure to distinguish 6 from 9, 1 from 7. Each participating guest draws a number and holds onto that slip of paper.

3. On the first turn, the guest with paper slip #1 chooses a gift, opens it, and all admire it.

4. On the second turn, the guest with paper slip #2 gets the choice of “stealing” any unwrapped gift (#1’s) or choosing a wrapped one. If #2 steals #1’s gift, then #1 must open a wrapped gift.

5. On the third turn, the guest with paper slip #3 gets the choice of “stealing” any unwrapped gift (#1’s or #2’s) or choosing a wrapped one.

The game continues based on the following:

1. If a gift is stolen from you, you can steal a gift (within limits, described below), or open a wrapped one.

2. The turn proceeds until a wrapped gift is chosen.

3. A gift cannot be immediately stolen back from the guest who just stole it.

4. The fourth “owner” of a gift gets to keep it. The gift is “dead” after it has been stolen three times.

5. “Owners” of “live” gifts must keep them visible and hold them up when requested.

6. The gift exchange ends when the last wrapped gift is opened. Usually, guests are encouraged to perpetuate the gift stealing as long as there are “live” gifts, but no one is obligated to do this.

Have a Happy Holiday season!

NEWS LETTERNovember 2014

Monthly Meeting Gear Swap Photographers are always looking for the latest and greatest gear and equipment. We spend a lot of money looking for that perfect piece of equipment that is going to take our photography to the next level. And, so, over the years we all end up collecting things that we no longer want or use, i.e. camera bodies, lenses, camera bags, filters, tripods, etc., etc. We will have space/tables available for you to display your photographic related items you wish to sell, trade or give away. Your items should be marked with the usual info, i.e. name, price and any spec sheet data, etc. Also, any publications you wish to sell or share – bring them. Displaying your items during the social hour will get the most exposure. The Treasure Coast Photography Center, Inc. will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any displayed items. Each member is totally responsible for their own stuff. All equipment/materials must be removed from the building by the end of the meeting. Any items not claimed by the end of the meeting will be disposed of. Okay, now, everybody dig through your closets and old camera bags and see what you’ve got. What’s that old saying – “one man’s trash is another.
