IntroductionWelcome To The August Newsletter During the Raft Race, and again at Bosmere Fete, it struck me that here in Needham Market we are very lucky in many ways. One of which is the number of groups, causes and events that are taken on and organised by local people who give up so much of their time. They plan and supervise so many local activities and, how successfully they do it!
There are Mums and toddlers groups, the PTA group at Bosmere who organised such a lovely fete, Debbie Cadman and her group of community warriors running the Raft Race. There are Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Brownies and Guides, the WI and other Ladies Groups, The Historical Society and Horticultural Society, the British Legion, Football clubs and coaches that turn out in all weathers. There are luncheon clubs
and people who cook and serve for others to enjoy. There are Bowls clubs, a Scrabble club, people getting Crafty, Knitting for Peace, playing Badminton and Bingo, Neighbourhood Watching, Model Boating, organising Art Shows, Christmas Open Days, Craft Show, taking care of Hedgehogs and Cats and, running Internet Cafes (I’d better mention my husband or he will get upset!). All these people are out there, doing this for absolutely nothing and for others to enjoy. Remarkable isn’t it. All that and more, just in our little town. If I didn’t mention you or your club, forgive me. There is just so much happening here in Needham Market.

Needham Market W.I.It was lovely to welcome some visitors to our June meeting. I hope they enjoyed the talk on Silver Clay, something I’d never heard of before, so it was interesting to hear about it and handle the delicate pieces of jewellery. We also received a report from the A.G.M. In Cardiff. Several members plus a few husbands enjoyed the visit to Bawdsey radar station followed by an excellent lunch at The Ramsholt Arms and, at the time of writing, we are still looking forward to our visit to Long Melford Hall with our link institute Wrabness.
The Federation Quiz was a great success as usual - unfortunately we couldn’t put in a team as several members were away and all hands available were needed in the kitchen to prepare for the half time refreshment break. I’m sure if we had entered a team I would be telling you how successful we’d been (written with tongue firmly in cheek!)
There’s no meeting in August but we will be going out for lunch together. Let’s hope this beautiful weather continues, everyone at the W.I. hopes you all enjoy the holidays.
We meet at the Community Centre on the second Monday in the month, excepting August. We’re always pleased to welcome visitors.

The flowers in the new planters have filled out and many people have said how good they look. With the heat wave we’re having, it is a lot of work to keep up with the watering. It has been nice to see some residents and shops in the High Street have contributed with floral displays of their own.
A future project will be installing a feature at each end of the town that will show visitors an attractive town - so long as we can eliminate the weeds that seem to be everywhere.
We are a small, mature group and we give our time freely to maintain our areas. We always welcome help, so if you think there is anything you can do, please let us know.
The next meeting will be the on 28th July at the Community Centre at 10.00, or contact Vera on: (01449) 723424.
P.R.
The Needham Market SocietyOn 11th July, a lovely summer’s day, members of the Society spent several happy hours of the afternoon and evening in and out of some wonderful Grade 2 listed High Street houses. Thanks must go the hosts who so generously opened their doors, guided us upstairs, downstairs and out into their gardens to see outhouses and ancient workshops. The age of the houses dated from the mediaeval to the Victorian and, many interesting documents researched by the owners gave us an insight into the past. We much appreciated their enthusiasm in producing early photos showing the properties, the occupants and the High Street in days gone by. It was so revealing to see the surprises that lay behind those Victorian frontages.
It seems hard to believe that Autumn is only a couple of months away, but our evening meetings start again on 26th September and are held at 7.30pm in the Burton Room at the Needham Market Community Centre.
Visitors are always welcome (£3 entrance fee).
Membership for the year to September is presently £5. New Members always welcome.
For further details please contact Andrea Davies: (01449) 721 056.
Stowmarket and District Camera ClubJustin Minns gave an interesting, helpful and inspiring talk on ‘Landscape’ to the members on 14 May and we now fully understand why his pictures feature on some of the covers of
‘Landscape Photographer of the Year’.
On 11 June George Buxton came to judge our final competition before the summer break. He presented the Len Backhouse trophy to Roy Fidler for the best projected digital image (PDI) on the night – ‘Come fly with me’ and the Cyril and Mary Hall salver to Roy Ward for the best print on the night – ‘Cley windmill’. Congratulations to you both.
Our end of season photoshoot took place on Sunday 24 June at Southwold harbour. We also have several photoshoots throughout the summer including West Mersea (tides permitting), Snetterton, Walton-on-the-Naze and Audley End.
Our new season starts on Monday 10 September when we welcome prospective new members and catch up with existing members. The first meeting for prospective new members is free of charge, whenever they attend for the first time.
All you need is a camera – any camera and a real interest in using it. Our members use DSLRs, mirrorless, compact and bridge cameras.
Regular meetings are held at Stowmarket Community Centre, Hillside, Stowmarket, IP14 2BD, usually on the 2nd & 4th Monday of the month between September & June. We start arriving at around 7:00pm for a 7:30pm start. We’d love to see you there, so why not join us?

CommunitySuzi from ‘Moo Music’ nominated for ‘What’s on for Kids Award 2018’!I have been delivering’ Moo Music’ to children in Stowmarket and Needham Market for three years now. It is fabulous to see little ones enjoying themselves each week with different themes, props and instruments, also seeing parents and carers form new friendships along the way.
This year I am excited and very proud to say I have been nominated for the ‘What’s on for Kids Award 2018’, as the most outstanding leader in the East. Being nominated is just the icing on the cake so to speak. I wish to thank all past and present Moovers for supporting me (and Maggie) on our adventures and, hope to have many more in the future!
Moo Music is a great fun and interactive regular music session for children aged 0-4 years and their parents, grandparents or carers too, where the children sing, dance, play, learn and have fun while doing it. Music is an essential part of every child’s development and the 100+ original Moo Music songs used at the sessions are positive, uplifting, fun and educational. The interactive sessions will help your child gain confidence and develop memory, language and coordination skills in an exciting, enjoyable and multi-sensory way. I offer separate sessions for babies, newborn until crawling, crawling and just walking as well as a mixed age group session for those with different age children or siblings. During school holidays I also run Messy Moo - messy and creative play sessions for children sitting supported until 6 years old (siblings are welcome too). For more information please contact Suzi on: 07944033723, email: [email protected] or visit www.moo-music.co.uk/sdnm.
Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket Cats Protection This month we are looking for a home Toby who has had to come back into our care due to his owner’s ill health. The lady was very upset to give him up as they had a very close one to one relationship. Toby is a handsome tabby boy with lovely green eyes and is about 9yrs old. He has been used to a quiet home and is an affectionate and friendly lap cat. Toby has not been used to young children, dogs or other cats and we would like to find him a similar home to his previous one. Toby is neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated.
If you are interested in giving a home to Toby or another cat in our care, please ring (01449) 674584. More information can found on our website: www.cats.org.uk/bury-st-edmunds and our Facebook page. If your cat has not been neutered and your circumstances mean that you need financial help towards the cost, please ring Margaret on: (01284) 851055 and leave a message.
We can always make good use of 1lb jam jars with lids (not pickle) card making items, tombola prizes, books and anything else suitable for our fundraising events. If you can help, please ring: (01449) 720003. Our Autumn Fayre in Woolpit Village Hall is taking place 8th September 2pm to 4pm. Admission is 50p or a tin of quality cat food. We look forward to seeing you again.

Summer Sunshine at Orchard Barn! As Orchard Barn is totally off-grid, the hot dry weather of this summer has been rather a challenge to us. Our stored rainwater has been exhausted and we are now drawing water from the pond to keep the garden growing. We are investigating putting a solar-powered water pump in place so we can more easily cope with future droughts.
The restoration of the mediaeval Suffolk longhouse on site is going well. This is a very rare example of a building from the middle ages being brought back to life using tools and methods that have not changed over the centuries.
On Saturday 4th August we are holding our ever-popular Tree to Timber event. This will feature demonstrations and taster sessions of many woodland crafts and traditional carpentry. You can book a place online at http://orchardbarn.org.uk/treetotimber.html. Income from this day will go towards the longhouse restoration.
Orchard Barn, situated on Bildeston Road, Ringshall provides opportunities for volunteers to experience and develop skills in a peaceful rural setting. These opportunities include: organic gardening; working on the Orchard Barn site, including the orchard and pond; woodwork, using greenwood. If you would like to know more, or if there are other skills that you could offer to Orchard Barn as a volunteer, please email [email protected]

CommunityNeedham Market Neighbourhood WatchWith the Suffolk Police stretched financially and unable to provide a police presence in towns such as Needham Market they are looking for support from the general public to become the eyes and ears of their communities.
Following a successful pilot in Woodbridge, Eye & Long Melford, the Local Police Volunteer Scheme is now being opened up to the entire county. Under the scheme volunteers patrol their neighbourhood relaying information back to the police about crimes and suspicious activities. They will be provided with suitably named orange jackets and have direct contact with uniformed officers who will respond and take appropriate action. To get involved volunteers must be over 18 years and be available 20 hours a week; there is no upper age limit. If you are interested to gain further information phone: (01473)-61389 or alternatively visit www.suffolk.pnn.police.uk/joinus or email [email protected] .
I think it would be great if there were volunteers in Needham Market happy to help out; it would certainly deter criminals and make us feel safer.
On that subject do make sure that expensive equipment used for gardening or decorating is not left unattended. This time of the year it is so tempting to leave the garage door open as we nip in and out but do be aware there are opportunist thieves patrolling the area just waiting to pounce. Recently I have heard of three pieces of equipment being stolen. In Needham Market a compressor left unattended was stolen. In Henley a lawn mower disappeared from a front lawn and in Battisford a power washer was about to be loaded on a pickup truck by two men dressed in orange jackets but the owner returned from a quick visit to the shops just in time. When they saw him approaching the would-be thieves quickly dropped it, jumped in their truck and drove off at speed.
With false number plates on their vehicle these criminals, nine times out of ten, escape scot-free. So be warned it may take longer to lock equipment away but it’s much quicker than having to make an insurance claim and then go out to buy a replacement.

CommunityNeedham Market Royal British Legion visits Wattisham Control TowerCadets from their Affiliated Detachment of the Army Cadet Force, based at Wattisham Flying Station accompanied members and guests of Needham Market Branch of the Royal British Legion on their recent visit to the Control Tower at Wattisham Flying Station.
Our arrival coincided with the take off by a flight of eight Apache attack helicopters, destined for demonstrations at Armed Forces Day commemorations on Saturday 30th June.
Dyane and Dave, the duty Air Traffic Controllers, gave the visitors detailed explanations of the role of Air Traffic Control in the airspace assigned to Wattisham and also movements on the ground around the marshalling and refuelling areas. They also interact with the Controllers at nearby Stansted airport and the US Airfield at Mildenhall.
The concept of “controlled airways” for commercial aircraft, essentially motorways through the sky, was explained, together with rules to ensure that military aircraft, which are prone to change speed, direction and altitude at short notice, were kept clear of these routes. The challenges of gliders and light aircraft, who are free to roam below controlled airspace were observed
on the radar screen, as were “hot spots” – radar reflections from pockets of hot air caused by the recent heat wave. The Controllers showed how they could distinguish between aircraft under their control and these potential distractions. The importance of having accurate, up to date information on changing wind and weather conditions was stressed.
The technology used by the skilled Controllers in guiding aircraft onto the runways in blind flying conditions (Instrument Flight Rules) was demonstrated.
The Air Traffic Controllers had a host of anecdotes about incidents and “exciting moments” but stressed that their skill was all about making flying, especially take off and landing, safe for all concerned.
Thanks are due to Craig Needham, Senior Air Traffic Controller and to Lt Col Robbie Silk, Wattisham Station Staff Officer, who facilitated the visit.
NM RBL usually meets at the Community Centre at 7.30 pm on the last Thursday of the month. Visitors are always welcome to our programme of talks and visits which do not always have a military theme.

Needham Market Town Council NewsRedevelopment of the Former Needham Market Middle School SiteTown Councillors attended the public engagement event held by Mid Suffolk District Council at the Community Café, School Street on Tuesday 10th July. At its meeting held on Wednesday 18th July, the Town Council resolved to challenge the District Council’s redevelopment proposal for the site on the following grounds: 1) The redevelopment proposal, in its current form, is inappropriate for the site in relation to the access/exit from/onto School Street and its proximity to Needham Market Community Centre and the all-weather sports courts (which are due to be refurbished). 2) The site is in an important location in the centre of the town where public amenities are already established, and it is an aberration on the District Council’s part to abandon its commitment (with Suffolk County Council) towards a ‘Community Hub’ as a complimentary element of the redevelopment. 3) Consultation on the redevelopment proposal has been woefully inadequate, for example, the public engagement event held on 10th July, consistent with the District Council’s late notice and poor advertising of previous consultation, has not enabled the community to understand and digest the detail of the proposal for redevelopment of the site. The Town Council is strongly of the opinion the entire former Middle School site should be considered in its totality and not parts of it in isolation. Recent discussion with Suffolk County Council revealed that they have no satisfactory plan for the future of the land it retains (a majority of the overall site) other than an expansion of the Primary School’s playing field, which is in doubt due to affordability. The Town Council put forward a plan for comprehensive development of the entire site as far back as 2014 but, as with the Community Hub proposal, both the County Council and the District Council show no signs of understanding concern regarding the impact of their actions (or inaction) on the local community.
Public Right of Way Claim, Barking RoadPlease be reminded a Public Enquiry will be held at the Community Café (formerly the Internet Café), School Street on 18th & 19th September. An objection received by The Planning Inspectorate against the making of the Order designating the route (adjacent to the Co-op/Finneys plus flats above building on Barking Road) as a Public Right of Way resulted in this Inquiry. The Town Council would appreciate it if all those who completed a user evidence form could make every effort to attend the Public Inquiry.
Overgrown HedgesThe proliferation of overgrowth across the town is being contained to some extent (as I write) by the lack of rainfall but nevertheless there are still problems created for pedestrians by the lack of attention by residents not controlling growth of hedges across pavements and pathways. If you have a hedge (or a tree), planted right on the edge of a boundary with a pavement/pathway, please would you ensure it does not overgrow and restrict the width of the pavement/pathway.
Town Councillor ResignationTown Councillors were sad to learn Town Councillor Kay Oakes has resigned her role and thanked her for her contribution to the work of the Council. The initial process of filling the vacancy created by the resignation involved Mid Suffolk District Council issuing a
formal Notice of Vacancy on 9th July. The Notice explains the circumstances under which an election can be called (copies can be found on the Town Council website or the main Town Council Notice Boards). If an election is not called by 27th July, the Town Council will seek to fill the vacancy by co-option. Expressions of interest from anyone wishing to become a Town Councillor will be invited. I will provide information on the co-option process and how to apply, in the September Newsletter. Please note the Town Council is already in the process of filling a vacancy by co-option. The resignation referred to above has created a second vacancy. Any applicants who are unsuccessful in the co-option process for the first vacancy will have the opportunity to carry their application forward to be considered for the second vacancy in the event a co-option process is used by the Town Council to appoint (i.e. in the event no election is called by 27th July).
Mental Health Service SurveyPeople living in east and west Suffolk are being urged to have their say about local mental health services as part of a unique engagement opportunity. The NHS Ipswich & East Suffolk and NHS West Suffolk clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) want to transform the way mental health provision is delivered across the county. To do that, they first need to find out how effective the people who deliver and receive the current services think they are. Commissioners want to hear from people who currently use or have previously used mental health services, those who care for mental health patients and staff who deliver these services. All three groups are being asked to input their feedback via three surveys that ‘went live’ from Monday 2nd July.
The surveys are part of a much larger engagement exercise which aims to help create a new model for east and west Suffolk to bring mental and physical health services much closer together. In a break from usual practice, the CCGs have commissioned four local voluntary sector organisations to engage with local people under the banner “The future of mental health – a very different conversation”. Suffolk Family Carers, Suffolk User Forum and Suffolk Parent Carer Network will co-ordinate a whole host of mental health workshops and events to gather feedback on the current services. Healthwatch Suffolk will then gather and analyse the feedback before preparing a report making a case for change for the CCGs’ governing body meetings in November. For further information on completing the survey please go to: https://www.healthwatchsuffolk.co.uk
Picking Up After Your Dog – The Causeway You know who you are if you are not picking up after your dog if you use The Causeway as a route to exercise your dog(s). The Causeway is also a main route to Bosmere Community Primary School and you must be abundantly aware ignoring your dogs’ deposits inevitably creates a very unpleasant and upsetting experience for children and their parent/carer as they walk to/from school. How would you like it?

CommunityChernobyl Children’s Lifeline and Charity ShopWe left home at 8:00am on July 1st to take two children who had been with us for the last fortnight back to the airport and to collect the new group of 15 children arriving on the flight they would go home on.
The two girls were safely checked in for departure, assigned to a returning adult to look after them on their return flight and then over to arrivals to wait for our group. Eventually they arrived, very tired and weary after having been up since 3:00am. When we arrived home at 6.15pm, the Host families were waiting, very excited at meeting the children who would be their house guests for the next month.
After introductions and some necessary translations the families left and the children were introduced to their temporary homes.
On Monday, myself and our interpreters visited each child and found all of them to be already “at home” but amazed at things we take for granted such as having a whole bedroom to themselves, gardens, outside toys, showers on demand and a plentiful supply of fresh fruit……..although they weren’t so sure about the vegetables!
Tuesday saw the start of our program with the children meeting daily at our new Centre within Stowmarket Football Club. The children love to be there with all the facilities we have been given and it is a great place to base our days at.
On Wednesday it was the dreaded Dentist day and I have to admit how (pleasantly) surprised I was. As usual Jill Geaney and her team
of Dentists worked flat out from 8.30 am but, for the first time in 11 years everyone had been seen and treated by 11:00am!!!! This was absolutely amazing as previous years had been very long days sometimes not finishing until 6:00pm. Again, we were really fortunate to have been given the use of the adjacent Church Hall which made everything so much easier as the children could stay there until called for their turn. A record year for us with only 21 fillings and 15 extractions being carried out.
And so our program continues until the end of the month with many exciting “first time” activities to be experienced by the children, the majority are provided by our supporters and helpers whom we rely on so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

St Elizabeth Hospice ShopA huge thank you to everyone who supported our evening at the Limes Hotel on June 16th. Our special thanks go to The Belmonts for the fantastic music; Needham Carpets, Lilac and Lily, and R J Smith for donating some excellent prizes; and The Limes for providing the venue. A good time was had by all!Hopefully we will be able to have our door open all the time in August. I always feel it makes us much more welcoming; although the noise from the traffic often drowns out our welcome greeting as you walk in! It’s also lovely to be able to put out some of our larger donations such as cricket bats, tables and children’s ‘dressing tables’ and often a basket of toys. We have a good selection of children’s toys and books upstairs too. We continue to put books outside but don’t forget we have a huge selection upstairs as well as often having a shelf or two downstairs. Lots of people have said they are buying books to take on holiday so they can leave them behind when they’ve read them which is a great idea. Our men’s section upstairs is also very popular. One area of clothing where we don’t receive many donations is the teenage section. If you’re able to persuade your teenagers to part with their outgrown clothing, we would be very pleased to receive it. Curtains also sell very well. These might be something that you would not necessarily think of donating.Thank you for your continuing support. We look forward to seeing you in the shop in August.MG, Volunteer

As I am writing this letter the sun is shining and the birds are singing in my garden. It really feels like summer is here and its’ here to stay for a while. Usually this time of year our minds are thinking ahead to Wimbledon fortnight. To the tennis and of course strawberries and cream. The sun makes us all more cheerful. We stroll around taking our time and having a feeling of general well being.
Now, I began by mentioning Tennis, but I couldn’t write a letter in the middle of the World Cup season and not mention football. As I write this letter England are doing okay. They have won both the matches that they have played and great shouts of joy have gone up in my house and in our neighbourhood. It is a special time. Nations come together as they focus on their home team.
But as in all things, and competitive sports not to be excluded, in the end one team or player in the case of Tennis has to become the champion. There will be winners and losers. As the football matches progress the weaker teams will be eliminated and the stronger ones will go onto to the next round. Eventually it will be down to two people or two teams to ‘fight it out’ and one will be crowned champion.
There is a well known story In the Bible about winners and losers and champions who defeat their enemies. An example of this is the story of David and Goliath. In this story it is the smaller, weaker person who defeats the mighty. David was ridiculed for being young, smaller than his attackers and not used to the ways of wars. But, he defeated Goliath. David told the Philistine that he might come with his sword, spear and javelin but all David came with was a stone and a sling and the name of the Lord.
So, as you are eating your strawberries and cream and watching the tennis or enjoying the next football match whether that is England or not, think about those winners and losers. Sometimes it is not as clear as it seems.

Church NewsNews from the Parish Church of St John the BaptistDespite the church building being closed, life at the Parish Church goes on. We are now all familiar with our pattern of worship and the fellowship has grown in as much as several members stay on, after our twice monthly service in the Limes, enjoying Sunday lunch served by Robert and Jane. Our new Cafe Church, held on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 4pm in the ARK, is beginning to take shape with a chance to have an “afternoon tea” along with some discussion and bible reading.
Holding the monthly produce stall outside Penvest is working well and it is good to see people coming along and buying the plants and produce available. Coffee morning at the same time in the ARK has proved quite popular too, although it would be nice to see a few more come along and enjoy a friendly chat. We would like to thank all those who come along and support these events, which are a vital part of our outreach and our fundraising.
Our recent tile signing was a big success & has raised nearly £650 for the roof fund appeal. It was great fun chatting to people about reasons for wanting to put theirs or a loved ones’ name on a tile as a lasting memory, they were very generous with their donations. So, thank you if you were one of the many who took the time to come along and stop to chat. Our aim is to produce a scroll listing all names on the tiles so in future years our ancestors will be aware.
Several people gathered to watch David Long and a couple of the builders erect our replacement cross into its new fixing on the East end of the roof. If you haven’t noticed it, do look up as you pass on the opposite side of the road and you will see it standing proudly watching over the town.
You can contact Revd Diane Williams, if you wish to discuss coming along to any of our services or speak to her regarding a baptism, wedding or funeral on: (01449) 720316.
We’re hoping to be back in church the 2nd weekend of September when we are holding our celebration weekend, details of which you will find elsewhere in this newsletter.CFL

Needham Market resident awarded a British Empire Medal!Margaret Baxter (95) of Needham Market was awarded a British Empire Medal as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours List this year. For the past 33 years, calling on her extensive amateur dramatics experience, Margaret has been a reader for Newstalk for the Blind, bringing news to visually impaired people in the Stowmarket area.
According to the papers put forward to the Cabinet Office (the government department that vets and recommends the award of honours), in addition to her contribution to Newstalk, Mrs Baxter:
• Has been involved in charity work in various fields nearly all of her life, both in the UK and Africa;
• Was an active governor of Bosmere Primary School in Needham Market for 18 years between 1982 and 2000;
• Has been suffering In her latter years from a debilitating bone disease which requires her to use crutches;
• Her ready humour and cheerful outlook on life are a source of inspiration to those around her;
• Despite having recently irreversibly lost sight in one eye (which caused her to give up driving), did not regard this as a sign that she should take things a little easier and “hang up the Newstalk microphone”. Rather she considered that it would now be more difficult to reach the recording studio! Retire? Never!
Mrs. Baxter was also responsible for creating and running for 15 years a ‘Holy Fools Troop’ here in Suffolk, which was recognized as one of the leading Christian clowning groups in the country. She retired from leading the troop in 2013 just shy of her 90th birthday. She continues to perform in local productions, known best for Joyce Grenfell and Margaret Rutherford tributes.
Speaking on behalf of her family, her younger daughter Jane Baxter Lynn, also of Needham Market, said:
“These are only a few examples of the work she has carried out both formally and informally to support others over the years. We are extremely proud of all the work she has done for every community in which she has lived, both in the UK and in Zimbabwe/Rhodesia. She’s an inspiration to so many.”

SportsNeedham Market Bowls Club It’s hard to believe now that the first two weeks of the outdoor season were very cold and two or three layers of clothing were required to stay warm! Since then the weather has improved dramatically and now it’s a matter of cold drinks and staying hydrated.
This means the greens are bowling very quickly and resulting in some great matches.
The main task for the green team is to make sure the sprinkler systems are operating correctly and the green is as ‘green’ as it can be. I always like to mention the green team as their work never stops and it is due to their efforts that we are congratulated by visiting teams who have enjoyed bowling on our green.
The new patio area is now complete, furnished with tables and chairs so an excellent spectator area.
Team results have been mixed with both Monday teams and the Thursday team struggling but better news for our three Tuesday afternoon teams and our Wednesday evening team.
Tuesday ‘A’ have won 8 of their 11 matches and are second, the ‘B’ have won 6 out of 10 matches and are third and the ‘C’ team have won 7 out of 10 matches and are in second place.
The Wednesday team are fighting hard to retain their title and are in second place having won 9 out of 11 matches.
The club triples and pairs competitions will be the same format as last year, drawn on the day. The Pairs will be held on Saturday September 1st and the Triples on Sunday September 9th, both starting at 11 O’clock. There will notices on the board for you to put your names down, bacon sarnies and more will be available.
MEET AND GREET DAYS AT CROWLEY PARK.
Our meet and greets were disappointing this year mainly due to the weather.
However, for anyone interested in bowling we have social bowling every Wednesday at 2:00 pm where you will be made welcome. You can either just watch or take part in the bowling as there are
always spare bowls to be used, tea/coffee and biscuits are also available.
Although bowls is an ideal sport for the active older person remember
‘YOU ARE NEVER TOO YOUNG TO BOWL’.

Needham Market Cricket ClubSaturday 9th June, Needham played the League leaders away at Witham and beat them by 47 runs, earning 20 points. Henry scored 77 of the 219 runs and Robbie took 4 wickets for 14 runs. It was a wonderful result and an excellent all round team effort. Following this good result we played Ipswich away on Saturday 23rd June and lost by 37 runs. Andy took 4 wickets for 29 runs but with a weakened team Needham put up a good show and we managed to get 5 bowling points and 3 batting points.
On 30th June, away to Earl Stonham, they scored 231 for 8 wickets and we won the match finishing with 236 for 6 with 7 balls to spare.
After 10 games this season Needham has 113 points and are in mid-table position in the League.
The All Stars for youngsters sessions have been a great success and our sincere thanks go to all those who have made this possible.
Next home matches at Crowley Park:
Saturday 25th August - Witham: start 1 pm
Sunday 26th August (rearranged match) Hadleigh: start 1 pm
Saturday 8th September - Ipswich: start 12.30 pm
Saturday 1st September - Earl Stonham: start 12.30 pm
The cricket is free to watch and you can get a free cup of tea or coffee as well. Please do come and support your local team.
