Staff Development Days 2019

Our school year for students concludes on Wednesday 18 December. The department has gazetted Thursday 20 and Friday 21 December as School Development Days. At Holgate Public School the staff have attended four evening training sessions to replace these staff development days. Therefore the school will be non-operational on these days with no school staff on site. This change has been endorsed by the School Director and the P&C.

Projected costs 2020

2020 projected school requirements will be sent home in our next newsletter. The projected costs and timeline will be sent home early in Term 1 2020 in class newsletters.

TICK Season

The school has been advised that we are in tick season. We have had parents and carers notify us of students getting ticks at home and at school. We have put individual plans in place for those identified with tick anaphylaxis. Parents and carers will be contacted immediately if a child has a tick.

Lost Property - Relocated

The lost and found property bin has been relocated to in front of the girls toilet. Please see photo. The lost property will no longer be in the music room.

Our new bike racks!!

Our new bike racks have been installed in front of the sports shed. It is great to see students riding to school at the moment. If you wish your child/ren to ride to school they need written permission and a small safety chat with me. I would love to see more students riding to school.

The December P&C meeting will be held Monday 2nd December. The meeting will be held in the staffroom starting at 7:00pm. All parents and community members are welcome to attend.

Class Placement 2020

Please email our school account [email protected] (ONLY) or write a note, addressed to Mrs Gordon for any considerations regarding class placement for 2020. When composing classes, teachers and executive consider all aspects of the child and class such as gender composition, composition of numbers, academic, emotional and social needs, friendship slips and lastly parent request. Please note I will always place student and teacher request and advice first. Please note that composite classes (grade or stage) are formed on social and numbers above academic. This is something I wish to reiterate and demystify. Please email or write a note to the school by Friday 29 November for consideration.

King regards Vanessa Gordon Principal

Positive Behaviour Learning (PBL)

Personal Belongings

This fortnight our PBL focus is about how to be respectful with school property and our personal belongings. It is important for children to recognise the need to label their clothing and equipment and put it in their school bags after use. Our school expectations require students to be strong by making good choices; safe by putting things in bags or tubs; respectful by being organised with permission notes, money and personal belongings. Students are demonstrating they are learners by checking the new lost property tub if their items are missing.

P&C

Holgate Cinema Under the Stars

We are so excited about this event and it is in full swing. It is the last fundraiser for the year and it’s a big one! We need all the help we can get to make this HUGE event a success and showcase our school. Last week a volunteer note was sent home to rally the troops. We need adults and responsible children to help with activities on the day. If you or your child can help please contact us at [email protected] or send us a message on Facebook. All volunteers must hold tickets.

Tickets have now been released to the general community and won’t last long. To purchase tickets please go to our Holgate P&C Facebook page and click on the event “Holgate Cinema Under the Stars” and follow the link. If you have any questions or concerns with payment, please contact Alecia on the above email or call me on 0432 589 060. Collection dates will be announced soon for tickets.

A huge thank you to the Sub Committee - Sam Pethan, Peita Mazaroli, Sharyn Styman and Priscila Shields for all their help in preparing for this special occasion. These lovely ladies are amazing. Thank you for your time and effort in coordinating "Holgate Cinema Under the Stars".

Canteen

CANTEEN IS ONLY OPEN FRIDAYS FOR RECESS AND LUNCH

Well isn’t the term going fast. Week 5 already. WOW.

Thanks again to the wonderful volunteers who helped last week. Crystal T, Lisa R and Francis O. Great to see another dad come and give us a hand and if any other dads are free on a Friday for an hour or so your help will be appreciated.

I am always looking for volunteers to help out. You don’t have to give up your day, but anytime around recess (10.45) OR lunch (12.55) will put a smile on the kids’ faces. Half an hour or an hour would be greatly appreciated.

Don’t forget to checkout our new Facebook page.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/101340980385866/

Search Holgate P&C Canteen or follow the link to find us and keep up to date with what’s going on. You can also like our volunteer post and choose which date you can help out. If you can spare from 10am to 1.30pm that would be amazing but if you can’t 10.30 to 11.30 or 12.30 to 1.30 will help a lot. Thanks.

Please complete lunch orders on a brown lunch bag (no small zip lock bags) with CHILDS NAME, CLASS and ORDER with prices and please include payment.

Recess items on the menu are only sold over the counter at recess. Please don’t order recess items on lunch orders. Just come at recess and say g’day and it will be ready.

Page 7: Newsletter 14 November 2019 - Holgate High School · Newsletter 14 November 2019 TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE EXCELLENCE / EQUALITY / ENGAGEMENT. 5/6: Joey D: for his incredible achievement

Ice blocks, chips and drinks will all be sold over the counter at lunch. Drinks can be ordered on the lunch order and will be placed in the bag with lunch.

Please double check all currency. Australian dollars only please. Canteen menu is available on the school website and also Skoolbag app.

Looking forward to smiles once again this week at the canteen.

Thank you - Richard Shedden

Community - Doing it for our farmers

Our school is asking for donations to be dropped in at the administration office over the next few weeks. These donations this time will go to Manilla and Uralla, north of Tamworth in NSW. These towns along with many others are desperately wanting cash or supplies to help make ends meet.

Cash, visa cash cards or direct debit are the most needed. These funds will go directly to the CWA in Manilla and Uralla to purchase goods locally in support of their local businesses. Please call me for bank account details (see below).

If you prefer to donate non-perishable food, please ensure it has long use by dates. Most needed are:

Water (preferably 10 litre containers) Working dog food, farm animal food Flour, sugar, long life milk, rice, tea, coffee, pasta and pasta sauces Cereals, cake mixes, etc Tinned fruit, vegetable, meat and fish Laundry and kitchen products, especially washing powder/detergents Toiletries including sanitary products, especially toothpaste Christmas cakes, puddings, biscuits, snacks

In Uralla for instance (that still has some town water) farmers are driving many kilometres to their town’s community centre every 3-4 days to have a shower and wash their clothes. The CWA are in desperate need of laundry powders/detergents and toothpaste to assist these farmers who have no money to pay for these products. Thank you, Margaret Williams, mobile 0409 735 300
