From the Principal’s Desk

Andrew Evetts, Principal

Welcome back to a fast starting term four, we have certainly hit the ground running with the school fete on this Saturday. I would like to encourage all parents, grandparents and children to attend the fete this weekend. The fete is a culmination of a lot of hard work from parents and I look forward to a great turn out on Saturday. The fete will start at 11pm and finish at 4pm. There have been many rides and stalls organised for the day and I’m sure everyone is looking forward to dunking Pastor Pete and myself into the water. This is our major fundraiser for the year so your support would be greatly appreciated. This term Mr Caine has organised swimming for all of the school. At the end of all this swimming practise there will be a swimming carnival to finish of the term. Any prep or year one mum’s or dad’s who would like to support Mr Caine with swimming training please contact the front office. Your support would be greatly appreciated. We are in the process of finalising classes for next year so please return your enrolment forms as soon as possible please. This enables us to work out classes for next year and whether we need to employ more teachers. Once again I thank all those parents who continually support Burdekin Christian College in achieving great outcomes for all students.

Corrin Johnston and Ozzie (pictured above with Corrin) recently competed in a Campdraft at Millaroo. On the weekend of 15th and 16th of September riders from Charters Towers, Collinsville, Tully, Mackay, Winton and Bowen participated in the competition. Campdrafting is a unique Australian sport involving a horse and rider working cattle. Corrin and Ozzie came home with a swag of ribbons and you can see Ozzie wearing the ribbons around his neck in the photo above. Corrin won thirds in Figure of 8, Clover, Bending, Cross Thread and a second in the Barrel Racing . Well done Corrin!

Congratulations Corrin!

The College is supporting Day for Daniel this year on Friday 26th October. Students and staff will be allowed to wear red (a red tshirt, red shorts, red socks etc) if they make a gold coin donation to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. The colour was Daniel’s favourite colour and he was wearing a red shirt when he was abducted. Day for Daniel is a day that focuses on Child Safety Awareness. The Daniel Morcombe Foundation was established in 2005 by Denise and Bruce Morcombe following the tragic abduction and suspected murder of their 13 year old son Daniel in December 2003. To promote the Foundation’s aims of making the world a safer place for our children, an annual awareness Day for Daniel is held. It is not a memorial day – it is a learning day for our Children . The Daniel Morcombe Foundation has recently introduced the 'Help Me' App. It’s a great way to not only help keep kids safe, but assist people of all ages, from 7 to 97, covering all kinds of personal emergency situations. The 'Help Me' button sounds a warning and allows you to send off an SMS text to two (2) nominated 'safety' numbers, as part of your Trusted Safety Network. Included in the text are GPS co-ordinates from where the text was sent, so the sender can be located or a last known place of contact is indicated.

Next week all College students will watch a child safety DVD provided by the

Daniel Morcombe Foundation.

Holiday fun at the ELC

We had a great time over the recent school holidays at the ELC. We made paper from recycled junk mail paper which the children really enjoyed.

We picked some flowers from the school garden.

Last week we put the hose in the sandpit. We dug some channels and put in some pipes and watched the water travel from one side of the sandpit to the other. We made rivers and put some fish in the water. Sorry about the muddy clothes! We also had a wet day and the children loved it! Just take a look at these photos.

ELC Wet days are back! We will have wet days starting from Friday 26th of October. Then each week after that on a different day so that all the children will get a turn. The following one will be on Monday 29th then on Tuesday the 6th of November. You will need to pack your child sun-safe swimmers or clothes and a towel, and don’t forget sunscreen!

Please Check: Your child’s hair for head lice and treat if necessary That you have named items sent to the ELC with your child’s name so that we can return them to you if lost That you have provided us with your child’s updated immunisation details That you have provided us with your CRN numbers and your date of birth. Without this info we are unable

to send your child’s attendance data to Centrelink which means you will not receive any Child Care Rebates or Child Care Benefits.

DID YOU KNOW: everyone is entitled to a rebate of 50% of your ‘out of pocket’ child care expenses, however, before Centrelink can pay your rebate to you they must have details of your child’s attendance at the ELC. We, the child care provider, are the only ones who can provide this official information to Centrelink and to do this we must have your CRN number and date of birth and your child’s CRN numbers and date of birth.

Just take a look at this lovely photo. Some of our After School Care children: Cassie,

Jay, Cooper and Oliver.
