SANDIWAY PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER SANDFEST Thank you for all your support at the weekend wasn’t Sandfest a wonderful occasion?! The music was fantas@c, the atmosphere was great fun and everyone’s enthusiasm was contagious! It was great to be part of such a suppor@ve team during the day. From 9am un@l 7pm (and some people on Sunday) many people worked hard for the school and children. MeLe tells me that about 70 people were involved with the organisa@on of the day it shows what we can do if we all work together! The final bills are being processed and we are wai@ng for some of the sponsor money to come in, but it is looking like the school raised about £4000 during the day! GREASE KEY STAGE 2 PRODUCTION The children and staff have been working very hard for the past few weeks to perform their version of ‘Grease’. It is wonderful to see over 120 children on stage and enjoying themselves. Tickets have been issued as fairly as possible to ensure that as many parents get the opportunity to watch the performance. We have not made a charge for the @ckets, but we will have a collec@on for any dona@ons to cover the cost of pu_ng on the event. Thank you, in advance, for your support. ADDITIONAL STAFFING CHANGES Further to NewsleLer 28, where I was able to inform you of the staffing changes that will come into place in September, the governors and I have recently appointed Mrs Vanessa Greenbury who will be working with Miss Jardine in Year 2. Mrs Greenbury will be replacing Mrs MaLhias as the Year 2 teacher at @mes when Miss Jardine will be undertaking her deputy Headteacher responsibili@es out of the class. Mrs Greenbury is already well known to the school as a regular supply teacher we warmly welcome her to our team. YEAR 6 LEAVERS It is always sad to say ‘goodbye’ to our Year 6 children at the end of the year. Many of these children have been coming to the school for seven years their voices and laughter have become part of the school in that @me. This year, the Year 6 have con@nued to represent the school with an amazing a_tude to learning and to themselves. We are very proud of each and every one. On behalf of all the staff and school governors, I would like to wish you all well as you begin the next important part of your journey. Don’t forget all the wonderful experiences that Sandiway has given you and please come back and visit we always like to know what you are doing and you are always welcome to come back and see us. For many families, it is also the end of an era as the oldest or only child passes through the doors for the final @me. School clubs will start w/b 14th September. These will be available to sign up for on the school website before the end of term, as last @me. You will need to log in and complete the Clubs wiki. This club will run un@l all the children who wish to join have had their turn. It will operate for a few weeks, then swap to a different group. A rota will be created when we know how many children are interested. Led by Mrs Forsyth and Mrs German (3.10/3.20pm4.10/3.20pm). Wednesday Mixed football for Y5 & Y6 working towards matches, compe@@ons and inter/intra school tournaments, led by Mrs Dimbylow and Miss Jones (3.204.20pm). Thursday Creatures and CriLers Club led by Mrs Catherine Cole (3.204.20pm) Please note that this starts a.er the October half term and that there will be a charge for this club. September,  firstly  at  3.30pm  and  then  this  will  be  repeated  at  4.00pm.  This  will  allow  you  to  get  to  another  class  if  you  have  two  children  in  the  school.

I  understand  that  some  parents  may  not  be  able  to  aLend  these  mee@ngs  due  to  work  commitments.  I  will  ask  teachers  to  send  home  any  handouts  from  the  mee@ng  to  keep  you  updated.

Can  I  also  remind  you  that  staff  are  happy  to  speak  to  parents  on  the  phone  or  in  person  (by  appointment)  or  through  email.  Email  addresses  of  staff  can  be  found  on  the  school  website  under  ‘Our  School’  -­‐>  ‘School  Staff’.

SCHOOL  LUNCHES/SNACKSPlease  make  sure  that  your  lunch  account  is  in  credit  by  the  end  of  term.

QUAD  KIDSOn  8th  July,  our  Year  5  and  6  Quad  Kids  team  travelled  to  Macclesfield  to  compete  in  the  Cheshire  and  Warrington  Summer  Games  FesDval.    The  event  was  aLended  by  Olympic  gymnast  Craig  Heap  who  the  team  met  and  had  their  T-­‐Shirts  signed  by!  They  threw  the  Vortex  in  the  driving  rain,  and    then  the  weather  began  to  lir  as  they  competed  in  the  60m  sprint.  At  the  half  way  point  we  were  in  2nd  place  -­‐  only  5  points  behind  1st.  Next  came  the  standing  long  jump,  followed  by  the  600m.  Personal  bests  were  achieved  by  Ella,  Alex,  Emelia,  Ben,  Liam,  Esme  and  Harry  in  the  600m.  The  team  showed  fantas@c  support  for  each  other  and  were  superb  ambassadors  for  both  the  school  and  Vale  Royal.  Arer  a  long  wait  for  the  results  we  found  that  we  had  won  -­‐  by  64  points!  What  a  great  way  to  end  a  phenomenal  year  of  sport  at  Sandiway!    (Mrs  Dimbylow)

ROUND  TOWERThe  Round  Tower  is  now  complete!  I  have  been  in  contact  with  CWaC  over  the  past  months  reques@ng  that  our  school  be  part  of  an  opening  ceremony  for  the  community.  This  will  take  place  in  the  first  week  of  the  holidays  and  will  involve  closing  the  road  for  a  short  @me  while  a  group  of  representa@ve,  including  parents,  children  and  staff  from  school,  stand  on  the  central  reserva@on  and  ‘cut  the  ribbon’.  This  is  confirmed  for  Monday  27th  July  at  10.30am.  Members  of  the  community  are  invited  to  watch  the  short  ceremony  -­‐  the  Local  Authority  and  Police  are  working  to  ensure  there  is  a  safe  viewing  place.  It  would  be  wonderful  to  see  our  children  and  parents  at  this  ceremony.  If  you  know  you  are  available  at  this  @me,  please  speak  to  me  as  soon  as  possible  and  you  may  be  one  of  the  lucky  few  who  could  take  part  in  the  ceremony  right  next  to  the  Round  Tower.

SUMMER  ACTIVITIES  AND  READING  CHALLENGESDon’t  forget  we  have  a  sports  club  (run  by  Mr  Ault)  and  a  tennis  school  (run  by  Jane)  in  our  school  (spaces  sDll  available)  -­‐  please  see  the  Office  for  further  details.

As  in  previous  years,  the  libraries  in  Cheshire  West  are  running  their  Summer  Reading  Challenge.  This  year  the  theme  is  connected  with  Record  Breakers.  Three  events  are  being  held  across  the  Borough  in  an  aLempt  to  become  a  record  breaker.  More  informa@on  can  be  found  at  www.yourwestcheshire.co.uk/pages/3539/1/Summer_Reading_Challenge_2015.html  or  by  popping  in  to  any  Cheshire  Library.

END  OF  THE  SCHOOL  YEARI  would  like  to  take  this  opportunity  to  thank  all  members  of  the  school  for  another  successful  year.  I  con@nue  to  be  impressed  with  how  hard  the  children  and  staff  work  together  to  produce  wonderful  work,  be  it  in  books,  singing  on  stage  or  represen@ng  the  school  at  spor@ng  events.  This  would  not  be  possible  without  your  support  as  parents,  carers  and  friends.

We  break  up  on  Tuesday  21st  July  and  the  children  return  to  school  on  Wednesday  2nd  September.  We  hope  you  have  a  wonderful  summer  holiday  together.
