Classes have already completed their first project and are well on their way with project number 2. This year’s curriculum will center around Modern Art. We will examine all of the major art movements from Impressionism to the present. Along with learning about each movement, students will discover artists and works associated with each movement. Movements will be covered chronologically in conjunction with each project. By the end of our school year, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of each movement studied in relation to societal, cultural, historical and personal contexts. In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure....! With these words in mind, classes had the opportunity to participate in this year’s Attendance Awareness Month Poster Contest. This is a county wide contest with student participants ranging from grades k-12. ! Students were asked to create a visual image that incapsulated the cause and integrated some kind of catchy slogan. This contest is a wonderful opportunity to integrate literacy within the arts. ! Brookside’s winners were Gavin Boyer and Phoenix Phan. Make sure to congratulate these students when you see them around campus.

-Principal Lawrence

Pro ject number one included guided, individual, and collaborative learning. Classes worked as a unit to c reate a l a rge sca le reproduction of a famous work by Vincent Van Gogh. The paintings were divided into sections. Each student wa s respons ib le for two sections within the piece.

Students first sketched out the details of their section using pencil. Next, students learned about application and b lending methods of o i l pastels. Equipped with this knowledge, students outlined and colored in their section.

After the coloring process was completed, the parts were connected. Sections were placed in order and taped together.

“Brookside students are true Van Goghs.”
