Origin of Newspaper The history of newspapers is an often-

dramatic chapter of the human experience going back some five centuries.

In Renaissance Europe handwritten newsletters circulated privately among merchants, passing along information about everything from wars and economic conditions to social customs and "human interest" features.

The first printed forerunners of the newspaper appeared in Germany in the late 1400's in the form of news pamphlets or broadsides.

Hickey's Bengal Gazette was an English newspaper published from Kolkata(then Calcutta), India which was founded by  James Augustus Hicky. It was the first major newspaper in India, started in 1780. It was published for two years.

Advantages of Newspaper Newspaper is read by huge number of

population, so news or information can be made available easily.

Newspaper is not very expensive so anyone can buy newspaper and if anyone wants to publish advertisement or any useful information then he can publish easily in any size format or any page of newspaper.

Almost all the latest news are covered in the newspaper which gives information about the latest trend going on in the world and you can also increase vocabulary and general knowledge by reading newspaper daily and regularly.

Weather report, sports events, business news, local news as well as world news is available in newspaper. Without newspapers, we would be like a frog in a well who knows nothing of the outside world.

Disadvantages of Newspaper As the Internet, Television or Radio are

used widely by many people , so advertisers prefer newspaper less for advertisement compared to Internet and other medias.

Sometimes in some newspaper the news which are shown are false. The news are even twisted and distorted.

They serve as a means of propaganda for the various political parties. Often views and comments are expressed through them that confuse the people and misguide them.

They publish wrong advertisements which deceive and cheat the people and corrupt the public taste by giving indecent pictures and advertisements.

Existence The future may be dim, but it certainly

does not mean the end of the traditional newspaper.

Traditional newspapers are now matching the Internet news sources in their own game.

Newspapers and even broadcast channels have also gone online to capture the untapped market and to draw back their traditional customers who might be wandering on the web in search of something different.

People quite simply, prefer the ‘physical copy’ element of newspapers. To some people, online news has the same fleeting element as radio and television.

The reach of an advertisement in a Newspaper is far ahead than publishing in Internet. The purpose of the advertisement is served and the result is obtained with in a day.
