nhc consultingDue to developments within the oil and gas industry, as well as a shortage of skilled and competent professionals, NHC has developed a team of trained and highly skilled individuals to support our client onshore and offshore operations.Furthermore, due to a substantial change in Diving and ROV system auditing and assurance within the industry, we can provide audits to a high technical level. Our audits are carried out in accordance with best industry practice and in compliance with industry legislation anywhere in the world.

OGP Client RepresentativesWe provideoversee onshore and offshore diving, construction or ROV subsea projects as requested by the client and provide daily updates as required.

Diving & ROV System Auditing & AssuranceCompetent auditors are provided for diving and ROV system technical audits, where each audit is carried out as per the client's specific requirements as well as in accordance with IMCA and OGP guidelines and recommended practices.

Diving Technical & Operational Support We offer technical and project managerial support in the process of new build or re-fit DSV, saturation dive systems and air/nitrox dive systems.

Failure Modes & Effect Analysis (FMEA)We conduct FMEAs to ensure that a systematic assessment is carried out on diving systems to identify any areas where a system may fail due to equipment operational reliability as well as lack of redundancy and critical spares required for safe operation.

nhc emergency servicesNHC Emergency Services has over 25 years experience responding to diving medical emergencies. We have developed strong contingency plans and NHC is prepared to respond quickly and efficiently in order to best deal with a situation. We are ideally qualified to provide advisory services to all diving related emergency issues no matter how big or small.NHC has been influential in the development of emergency response procedures and has invested in latest industry technologies in order to provide a successful emergency station for a large proportion of diving companies in the North Sea.

Hyperbaric Lifeboat Reception All saturation diving vessels working in the North Sea possess a rescue contingency for their divers in the form of a Hyperbaric Life Boat (HLB). Certain countries require the rescue plan to include the reception of such vessels onshore. NHC provides such a facility for several major clients working in the North Sea and is currently developing facilities overseas.

Bend WatchAt the end of a saturation decompression, which can take several days, a diving team is required to remain within the vicinity of a chamber for several hours which is the time they are most likely to suffer decompression illness. NHC offers a facility to their clients to accommodate divers for this period. A Diving Support Vessel, which may have been in port for a mobilisation, can safely leave their 'Bend Watch' divers at NHC and return to sea, saving many hours of operational time.

Decompression Chamber Standby CoverThe Diving at Work Regulations require inshore diving operations to have a Diver Decompression Chamber available within two hours travelling time from the site of operation. NHC provides this cover for a large area of Scotland. One of our major clients is the Underwater Search Team of the Police Scotland.

We offer a superbly equipped saturation facility connected to a hospital medical chamber. A service to transport an HLB from any UK port to this system is strategically planned and contracts are in place for lifting, transport and police convoy to NHC. This is supported by a dedicated Life Support Package, generator as well as gas and trained personnel.

A number of portable HRFs are available for rapid mobilisation to remote quaysides and are positioned in strategic locations worldwide to support saturation diving operations and emergency landings. These systems are managed and supported through NHC’s Life Support Team.

Page 8: Nhc brochurelowres

Hyperbaric WeldingWe operate the only land based Saturation Diving Complex in the UK, providing facilities for underwater welding and Hyperbaric Habitat Trials. The unique facilities at NHC permit problem free testing of dry and wet hyperbaric welding procedures. An established set up combined with interface flexibility allows a variety of habitat welding techniques: manual, mechanised and remotely operated.

Environmental Testing NHC has recently invested in an Environmental Testing Facility (ETF) to expand its testing capabilities. This large environmental test laboratory has been installed to simulate conditions down to minus 25 Degrees Centigrade for the testing of offshore equipment, and subsea oilfield apparatus. Verifying that critical oilfield equipment can withstand extreme temperatures and still function safely and efficiently is an increasing requirement for many of our clients.

nhc emergency 12 nhc 14

NHC has completed a number of development projects on subsea welding and robotics developing systems for the repair of underwater pipelines and structures. A tried and tested internal filtration system ensures the maintenance of good visibility during dry and wet welding operations in an either fresh water, seawater or mixed gas environment.

Our large WorkChamber can be adapted for a variety of welding situations and is attached to a full saturation diving system which is comfortably furbished for up to 16 divers to live in during saturation. A full video and communication system means that dives can be monitored and recorded and ensures a controlled and safe environment.

Even though deep ocean temperatures do not reach the extreme cold that our Environmental Testing Facility can simulate, out in the field, equipment can be stored on deck in harsh conditions and therefore needs to be capable of withstanding these conditions and then functioning, so testing with a good safety margin is sound engineering.

Our smaller pressure chambers can be set up inside the ETF, meaning high pressure and altitude trials can now be carried out with variable temperatures, this ensures we can provide the most comprehensive and thorough testing. Accurate monitoring equipment ensures close surveillance and precise readings can be taken giving clients detailed results for their tests and trials.

Manned diving trials, in 1987, formed the basis of NHC's work in its early years. Record dives to 470m/1500ft deep were carried out whilst evaluating physiological responses of the divers and simultaneously testing breathing and life support apparatus. Today the facility hosts trials for the testing of military diving equipment and at the opposite end of the pressure scale, altitude trials for the evaluation of apparatus at low-oxygen and simulated pressures to those found in the aviation industry.

NHC can provide research facilities and personnel to assist in projects, partner in University and Government sponsored programs and International Teaming.

Research & Development

Future for the nhcNational Hyperbaric Centre is a forward-thinking company keen to expand and develop further in the subsea and extreme-environment industries. Our independence creates ability to offer impartial advice, quality-assured testing and clear thinking.

We are investing for our future with major capital expenditure forecast for new test facilities, overseas bases and joint ventures in a variety of countries.
