• Like can not be used progressive sentences
• Like is always used with an object .
• When used with very much – very much comes after subject or object.
• I like your new ring.• Do you like my new
jacket?• I don’t like strawberries.• What do you think of the
soup? I like it.• How do you feel about
the concert? I like it.• I very much like your
sister.• I like your sister very
much.
Would like + infinitive = polite way of saying “want” especially in requests and offers
• I would like two kilos of tomatoes, please.
• Would you like to dance? (not do you like to dance?) (not would you like dancing?)
• Would you like to play tennis tomorrow afternoon?
• How about playing chess? I would like to.
• If you would like to join us in our weekend trip to Bursa I can talk with the tour leader? (polite offers)
