Response Form
Director’s MessageDear Recruiter,
Excellence is a process, not an outcome. Excellence is an attitude, not a system. Excellence is a way of life, not a dogma. We at the Institute of Management, Nirma University continuously strive for excellence with a view to set new academic standards, achieve new benchmarks, and develop new dimensions in the overall development of the students. The last decade has witnessed dramatic changes in management education in India. A few business schools have given a new direction to management education, while the standards have deteriorated in most schools. We have made deliberate efforts to maintain the best quality standards. We are fully aware of our responsibility to help out India emerge as a formidable business power through professionally trained managers. In our endeavour to do so, we select the finest brains from different parts of the country, expose them to the highest standards of management education, and transform them into the most professionally competent and committed leaders and entrepreneurs.
The last one year has witnessed a leap in progress, excellence and innovation for the Institute. The number of students increased from 60 to 120. The Institute offered four specializations: Marketing, Finance, Information Technology and Human Resource Management. As a part of the new curriculum, the Institute conducted unique skill-building workshops, focusing on critical managerial skills. Our integrated emphasis on classroom learning and project-based insights has prepared each student for the varied and complex demands of the corporate world.
I present the class of 2004 consisting of 120 brilliant, creative, hard working, and down-to-earth students to you. They not only possess sound knowledge of management but also have insights into the practical realities of the corporate world. Their resolve to make a difference wherever they work is impeccable. I can confidently state that meticulous training and rich exposure at our Institute have made them different from the management students at other schools.
Look forward to welcoming you at the Institute.
With the warmest regards Anup K. Singh, Ph.D.
VisionShaping better future for mankind by developing effective and socially responsible individuals and organizations

NERF and Nirma University
The Nirma Education and Research Foundation (NERF) was established in 1994 with a view to promote and support higher education in India. The NERF is a trust founded and chaired by Dr. Karsanbhai K. Patel, a well-known industrialist and philanthropist and is spearheaded by Prof. N.V.Vasani, the Executive Chairman of the Trust.
In 1995, the Nirma Institute of Technology, the first self-financed, multi-disciplinary engineering institute in Gujarat was established with a view to provide world-class engineering education in Gujarat and to inculcate a spirit of social relevance amongst young students.
The following year, the Nirma Institute of Management was set up to meet the growing demand for professional managers all over the country.
In 1997, the Nirma Institute of Diploma Studies was founded to make technical education at the diploma-level more relevant and need-based.
In 2003, the Nirma Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences joined the esteemed list.
With these institutes under its umbrella, the NERF bid for University status and successfully achieved it in April 2003. Today, the NERF campus on Gandhinagar-Sarkhej highway proudly bears the name ‘Nirma University’.
After the formation of the University, Nirma Institute of Management has been rechristened as the Institute of Management, Nirma University.
Within seven years of inception, the Institute is recognized as one of the top B-schools in India. Business India, in October 2002, has rated it as an A+ institute and amongst the top 30 in India, while the Outlook magazine, in September 2002, has placed the Institute amongst the top 10 B-schools set up after 1990.The survey also ranked the Institute’s intellectual capital at 13.

Admission Process
The Batch of 2002-04:Dreamers, Achievers and Trend-Setters
Our Programme is national in character. We represent all the major states of the country. Applicants appear for the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the IIMs. Candidates selected on the basis of their performance are called for Group Discussion and Personel Interview held at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Delhi and Indore.
The final selection is then based on their overall performance and work experience.
When the batch of 2002-04 assembled for the first time, we were a group of diverse individuals with our own stories to tell. Each had his/her dreams, big dreams too, and we had chosen the Institute of Management. Little did we know that we would soon be the path-breakers. We the students have become a driving force in building a distinctive culture at the Institute, which is so essential for creating an intangible impact that helps build great institutions.

The rigorous two year programme has helped us gain insights into real life management problems. The first year curriculum concentrates on strengthening our theoretical knowledge followed by the Summer Internship, where we put all our skills and knowledge to test in tackling actual business situations.
We specialize in the second year wherein we are required to opt for subjects from any of these streams of management – viz. Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, Information Technology or General Management.
An integral part of the second year curriculum is the Capstone Project, which requires us to work on any ongoing industry project. The duration of this project is two trimesters.

The Infrastructure
Our environment is a function of the software and the hardware. Let us now look at the hardware, i.e., our infrastructure. The infrastructure is replete with centrally air-conditioned classrooms, independent faculty and classroom blocks, state-of-the-art library, exclusive student hostels for men and women, and fully furnished accommodation for executives attending the management development programmes.
The buildings have been designed keeping in mind aesthetics and functionality. It is a world class structure with state-of-the-art facilities such as centralized air conditioning, networked computers and round the clock Internet connectivity. The Library Resource Centre (LRC) has an extensive collection of management and non-management literature that is constantly replenished with new arrivals. It provides access to leading national and international business periodicals. The LRC subscribes to various business database like EBSCO Premier, Emerald, PROWESS, CMIE database, Capitaline, KOMPASS, MRMR along with corporate annual reports and CDs.
The hostels are spacious and well maintained. Every room is connected to the LAN with round the clock Internet access. Each of us has a personal desktop computer in our room. The mess serves us hygienic food at reasonable rates throughout the day.

The procedure for the final placements consists of the following steps:
1. Submitting the job announcement form
2. Pre-Placement Talk (PPT)
3. Mailing of Resumes of Interested Students by the Placement Office
The job announcement form is provided at the end of the brochure. The company is requested to fill in and return to the Placement Office.
The PPT provides an opportunity to the recruiting company and the students to interact with each other. The presentation by the company about itself (history, growth potential, future opportunities, etc.) and jobs available (content, compensation package, location, etc.) contribute largely to a student’s decision as to which company to apply to. The PPT also provides an opportunity to recruit the first year students for summer training assignments.
The company is requested to inform the Placement Office in advance about the equipments required for its presentation. It is also requested that the company leaves behind a copy of the presentation (company annual report/brochure) with the Placement Office for further reference by the students.
Resumes of the students will be sent to the company for short listing. The company is requested to send in the shortlist at least one week prior to its scheduled visit to the campus for recruitment. 49

The City of AhmedabadNirma University is located in the industrial city of Ahmedabad, India. Ahmedabad, a city that was once known as ‘the Manchester of India’ for its blooming textile industry, is now a vibrant city of around 5.5 million people.
Ahmedabad is home to several reputed educational institutions and research institutes like Physical Research Laboratory & Indian Space Research Organization. This setting provides a fertile field to a management institute by giving opportunity for the students to interact with the best research institutes and industrial houses thus enriching their learning experience.
Apart from being a business and academic centre, Ahmedabad is the proud host to the International Kite Festival every year inviting participants from across the globe to an event that is traditionally popular here. No visit to this city is ever complete without a visit to the tranquil Sabarmati Ashram. Situated 7 km from the city centre, it has been faithfully preserved in the memory of the Mahatma. It was from this place that the famous ‘Dandi March’ commenced in 1930.
