The Astronaut Scholarship was created in 1984 to aid the United States in retaining worldleadership in science and technology by providing scholarships to the very best and brightest collegestudents pursuing these degrees. Universities must be invited to participate in the Astronaut Scholar-ship program; Clemson has been participating since 2010. The scholarship covers expenses for tui-tion, fees, books, and room and board in the amount of $10,000 annually, and opens doors of oppor-tunity for the recipients in admissions to top graduate programs and success in obtaining NSF grantsfor graduate study and research.

Clemson must nominate two students for the Astronaut Scholarship. If you are majoringin Mathematics, the Sciences, and Engineering, are a current sophomore or junior who will graduate nosooner than May 2016 but no later than May 2017, have a GPA of 3.8 or above, have significant re-search experience, and are a U.S. citizen, you should consider applying.

Application packages consist of: a one-page statement by the nominee discussing his/her personal in-terests, activities, and career goals; a resume; and 2 letters of recommendation from Clemson facultymembers. Application packages may be emailed or delivered to me. The application deadline is January23, 2015 and a faculty committee will select Clemsons nominees in early February.

Please note: Astronaut Scholarships are not awarded for pre-medical studies, so clinical research isnot considered in the research selection criteria. However, biomedical research isincluded.

You may visit their website here http://astronautscholarship.org/. If you have any questions about theAstronaut Scholarship or any major fellowship program, please do not hesitate to contact me at 656-2428 or [email protected].
