Overview

• Plan was to focus on FrameNet and PacketNet Service• Did do a few WaveNet circuits

• Atlantic Wave, 2 FrameNet, 2 PacketNet, misc others. • All FrameNet and PacketNet bandwidth was allocated

• 40 Gb total - primary and backup links• Hand scheduled, relied on users to honor the specific day

and time assignments. • Monitoring - NLRview

• Phase 1 measurement infrastructure installed• Measured FrameNet and PacketNet bandwidth in and out of

Tampa.

Infrastructure Update

NLR Allocated Waves - January 2007

nlr.net© 2004 National LambdaRail, Inc

11

WaveNet Allocation

• 98 WaveNet Circuits (was 94 in 12/06)• ~312 out of 1029 segments allocated

• 30% of the backbone• Avg number of segments per circuit ~ 3

• Busiest Segments - Northern Route• CHIC to STAR - 24 waves or 75%• CHIC to CLEV - 19 waves or 48%• CHIC to DENV - 18 waves or 45%

• Expansion• Adding 15454 chassis on Northern route to accommodate

additional waves• Add capacity between CHIC and STAR

• 24 out of 32 Waves allocated• Investigating additional fiber and equipment

13

PacketNet

• Designed to be extremely reliable• Diverse backbone• Redundant route processors, power supplies• Redundant member connections

• 10 GE primary connection• 1 GE backup connection • Backup connection opposite direction and connects to different

router• PacketNet routes

• 7212 distinct routes• Announced (not all distinct)

• Members: 1263• FedNets: 1119• International: 8575

16

FrameNet Services

• VLANs• Dedicated and non-dedicated bandwidth• Point-to-point or multi-point• Bandwidth increments of 100 Mbps

• Up to full link bandwidth• Additional backbone links are added if dedicated

bandwith exceeds 6 Gbps.

• Redundant non-dedicated VLAN available upon request for dedicated VLANS

nlr.net© 2004 National LambdaRail, Inc

17

FrameNet

• Non-dedicated bandwidth • No cost for bandwidth through 2007• Cost for additional port (if you want them)

• 1 GE or 10 GE available

• Service implementation• Close to on demand when port exists

• Annual contracts• Shorter durations are available upon request.
