The Melles family lived in a beautiful cottage in

the small town of Vervo. The town was near the

ancient cave of Mount Demas.

Mr. Melles worked in a famous cotton mill in

the town while Mrs. Melles looked after the

home and took care of their children Timber

and Jiro.

One bright summer morning, their uncle

Mr. Fluto called Timber and Jiro.

“Hurry to Mount Demas. There is something in

store for both of you. Don’t forget to watch out

for some surprises on your way.”

“Meet you right there uncle,” yelled Timber

jumping out of the bed much to the fright of

Jiro.

They got ready in a jiffy, took their backpack

and raced through the green meadows.

“Remember what uncle said? There are

numbers on the field, looks like a game. Come

back quick Jiro,” said Timber keenly observing

the numbers.

“I can run faster than you,” teased Jiro. Timber

heard it but did not worry as he was more

excited about the visit to the Mount than

running faster than Jiro.

“This route will take us close to Tan Hill,” called

out Jiro.

“I have climbed the hill just once and had so

much fun. I hope the hill still looks the same,”

smiled Jiro.

They had to cross Tan Hill to reach the Mount.

When they reached the foot of Tan hill, there

was a crumbled piece of paper lying near a

heap of stones.

Jiro was quick to pick the piece of paper.

“Another game is ready for us Timber. Hurry up

let us get started right away.”

There were too many pebbles lying around, so

the brothers held hands and began their

journey uphill.

The path downhill was smoother than the road

that took them up. There was a special slide

that led to the foot of the hill.

“Ha ha this is so much fun. We are sliding at top

speed,” screamed Timber in joy. The boys

laughed aloud and raced down.

Timber and Jiro reached the foot and dusted

themselves. “I like the way uncle creates games

for us, they are always new and challenging.”

The brothers were heading toward Mount

Demas. They took a short break to sip some

water and have their tasty sandwich.

Jiro tightened his shoe lace while Timber

cleaned the place where they had eaten.

“Here is Lake Tamo” announced Jiro. But even

before he could finish, he noticed something.

“The swing bridge looks strange. Why is one

plank on the ground and the other risen?

Something is wrong,” said Jiro.

“May be someone tried to break it or something

is wrong with the pulley or may be…” wondered

Timber.

“Or may be uncle Fluto has done something to

it,” exclaimed Jiro. They were quiet for few

seconds.

“If it is uncle, then I am sure there is a reason,”

said Timber looking around the place.

“Hey look, uncle Fluto is playing games again!”

The brothers then crossed the bridge and

walked towards the cave hoping to reach there

soon.

Just then Timber asked Jiro. “Is the sum of 3

and 3 the same as the sum of 4 and 2?”

Though caught by surprise, Jiro gave the right

answer. “Yes it is the same!”

“Ok now it is my turn to ask you a question,”

said Jiro quickly.

“Yours can wait. There is something for both of

us, look at the wall here.”

“Finally we are here!” exclaimed Jiro totally

thrilled about meeting uncle Fluto.

“Uncle, where are you?” screamed Jiro and

Timber peeping into the cave.

“Right inside,” replied uncle from the cave.

The excited brothers stepped into the cave and

were surprised to see six machines arranged in

a semicircle.

It was a game station specially designed by

uncle Fluto for his favourite nephews. The

machines were switched on for the brothers to

come and begin playing.

“I hope you like it. But remember, you have to

play together and there should be no fights,”

said uncle winking at the brothers.

“Yes uncle we promise,” said the brothers

running towards the first machine.

“Let me meet you both at the farmhouse after

the games, have fun,” cheered uncle Fluto.

“Here we go,” cheered the brothers loudly as

they placed their hands on the first game

machine.

“Are they balloons on the monitor?” asked

Timber walking towards the next game machine.

“Oh yes, they are balloons indeed,” said Jiro

activating the next game by touching the screen.

“All the balloons are down!” screamed Timber,

completely amused by the game.

“It is time for the next game!”

“Do you see a box there?” asked Jiro moving

towards a bag suspended from the ceiling.

“Wait, let us not touch it. We never know what

would be in it,” cautioned Timber.

“Why do you worry? Uncle may have forgotten

to take this with him. Who else has access to

this cave?” asked Jiro.

“To my dear nephews,” read the piece of paper

pasted on top of the box. Jiro removed the

paper and opened the box.

“Ah! A magnet for the two of us! Ha ha may be

a reward for winning the previous game,”

smiled a visibly happy Timber.

Jiro then put the magnet into their backpack.

The brothers then moved on to play the next

game.

The brothers completed the game and felt happy

about winning it. They found something to add

to their joy.

“Don’t tell me it is another gift from uncle!”

screamed Jiro who was now overjoyed about

playing games and winning gifts.

“We will have to thank uncle the whole of this

summer! That is how much he has done for us,”

said Timber.

In this happy mood, Jiro and Timber took a brief

snack break and headed back to the next game.

“Did you notice something? When we began

playing the games, they seemed very simple. But

now they have become very interesting. What do

you think Jiro?” quizzed Timber.

“Yeah, that is uncle Fluto’s trick. There is just one

more game left for us to play. Come let us quickly

get to it,” said Jiro dragging Timber to the last

game.

“Hurrah!!! We have finished all the games. All

of them!” exclaimed the brothers in joy.

Jiro and Timber couldn’t ask for more. They

had so much fun playing the games.

Now they wanted to meet uncle Fluto and

thank him for making the games for them. They

left the cave and began running towards uncle’s

farmhouse.

Snoopie, uncle’s favorite dog, saw the boys

running towards the house and was jumping

with excitement. “Uncle Fluto,” cheered the

brothers as they ran towards the house.

“We have never had so much fun ever! This is

the best thing we have done this summer.

Thank you so much uncle,” said Timber

excitedly.

“Teach us how to make these games uncle,”

pleaded Jiro .

“Ah, I just forgot how I made them,” began

uncle and the brothers echoed in chorus.

“Ha ha ha” the three broke into a laughter.

“Now it is time for some brownie and

icecream,” announced uncle.

He walked into the kitchen to bring their

favorite dessert to the table. The boys walked in

to help uncle.

“Please just once… please tell me how you make

these games?” begged Jiro, trying his luck to

get an answer.

“Like this,” said uncle winking at the boys as he

tossed up the brownie which fell straight into

the plates of the brothers.

“Ha ha ha,” the three continued with their

desserts merrily.
