MEETING REPORT
Today, Monday 07-10-2013, the “Non-Confessional Ethics” teachers for the Greek
and English sections of Secondary Education, ms Carolina Kanelou and mr Nektarios
Sifakis, had a meeting in the staff room of the European School. The meeting took
place in the content of the collaboration and common pedagogical agenda in the
Greek and English sections of the European School.
The co-ordination of the two sections, with regards to the subject of “Non
Confessional Ethics”, is limited to the first two grades in the Second Cycle of
Secondary education. In accordance with the distribution of teaching material, the
subject of “Non Confessional Ethics” will be taught as follows:
2nd CYCLE OF SECONDARY EDUCATION - 4th and 5th grade
English Section: Ms. Karolin Kanelou
Greek Section: Mr. Nektarios Sifakis
The teachers, acknowledged the basic units the teaching material for the class, as specified in the Syllabus of the European Schools as follows: 4th grade
a) “The right to be different”. Differences of culture, religions, economic systems, political systems and the toleration and its limits and,
b) “Rationalism and criticism”. Reason and the irrational. Dogmatism and the search for truth, Faith, agnosticism, atheism, Sects, Laicity and filally Freedom of thought.
5th gradea) “Communication and exclusion”. The conquest of autonomy. Consumer
education. Responsible parenthood. Responsible attitude towards oneself and ones body. Responsibility and blame.
b) “Liberty and responsibility”. Forms of communication (speech, media, publicity, propaganda etc). Absence of communication (conflict, antipathy, violence, hatred stereotypes, racism, xenophobia etc). Forms of exclusion (economic, social, cultural).
The basic materials/manuals to be used as well as the basic methodological tools which are appropriate for the realization of the teaching aims for the subject were reviewed.It was agreed that the next meeting will take place at the end of the 1st
semester. For this reason this present report is drawn up and singed.
