Research

Vocabulary refers to knowledge of

words, word meaning, and how to use

words effectively to communicate.

Scientific research on vocabulary

instruction reveals that most vocabulary

is learned indirectly, while other

vocabulary must be taught directly.

(Armbruster, Lehr & Osborn, 2001)
