NEWS Alert - Calling ALL Trinidad and Tobago Press NORTH EASTERN DISTRICT JUMP ROPE FOR HEART FESTIVAL - TOMORROW On Friday, March 11, 2011 from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm the North Eastern District Jump Rope for Heart Festival will take place at the Grosvenor Presbyterian Primary School in Sangre Grande. This is a joint initiative between the Ministry of Education, North Eastern Education District, the Trinidad and Tobago Alliance for Sport and Physical Education (TTASPE) and United Way to promote physical activity and health awareness. It is anticipated that 750 children from 30 primary schools will come together to display their jump rope skills during this safe, supportive and non-competitive festival. This festival will provide an opportunity for students to learn about healthy lifestyle habits. About the Jump Rope for Heart Program Jump Rope for Heart is a program that encourages primary school children to enjoy healthy lifestyle activities and make informed nutritional meal choices. The program is facilitated by teachers and community volunteers and it combines the simple, low cost, fun-filled physical activity of jumping rope with an integrated curriculum approach that has the potential of infusing health information and education into other subject areas. There are 120 schools in Trinidad and Tobago participating this this program with support from the Ministry of Education and the United Way. The Jump Rope for Heart program is being supported in partnership with the Australian Sports Commission.
