2017 Club Officers

President’s Corner ~ Gordon Slothower

Dear Corvetters,

So far it’s been a good winter to own America’s favorite sports car, the Corvette, with lots of opportunities to get your car out of the garage and onto the road. I have been very happy with the participation at club events, meetings, Vette Night Out dinners, and cruises to Stella, Missouri and Locust Grove, Oklahoma.

Several new members have joined the club since the first of the year: Marvin Agosto, Chuck and Evenly Jorgenson, Chris and Cathy Mitcham, Steven Roebuck, Robin and Kathy Retzlaff, and others are considering joining. I ask all of you to seek out our new members at meetings and club events, and introduce yourselves. Invite them to sit with you. It’s important to welcome them and make them feel included.

At the March club meeting we will start circulating the volunteer sign-up sheets for our Summer’s End Corvette Show on August 25 and 26. Names of the Committee Chairs will be listed on the sheets and will be able to answer any questions. Don’t forget you can volunteer for more than one activity.

The club needs your talents and time to keep it great. This fall there will be several opportunities to help guide the future direction of the club. I want you to seriously think about how you can play a role.

We hope you will consider joining us at some out of town Corvette shows coming up soon. The ones we are planning to go to as a group include: Hot Springs Corvette Weekend in April and Lone Star Corvette Classic in May. If you know of a car show - Corvette-only or all-car - let us know and we’ll get them on our list. And, if you want to go to a show and invite other members to join you, give us the details and we’ll help promote it.

Happy driving!

Gordon Slothower

Eagle ViewingWhile there were not a lot of eagles at Stella, Missouri’s Eagle Days this year, David Hyden’s brother was able to get this great photo of a beautiful eagle. Thanks to Jeff Hunter for leading our group to Stella.

Jack Lovin will lead a cruise to Huntsville in March (date to be announced). We will eat at Lori’s Main Street Cafe where they feature GREAT food! We will leave around noon and plan to be in Huntsville by about 4:00 p.m. Jack promises to make the drive a lot of fun with plenty of back roads and county roads. We will stop at Terra Studios in Durham where they make blown glass bluebirds of happiness. They also have pottery from local artists.

Upcoming Events and Cruises

Randy Whitis has scheduled open race days on the course at Hallet, Oklahoma on May 24 and September 20. These driving days are a lot of fun. They will have room for up to 20 cars and cost will be $200 each if we have 20. They will run drivers in 20 minute stints with staggered start so there is not a lot of traffic. Instruction is available. Drivers must have a Snell

approved car helmet, long pants, long sleeved shirt and close-toed shoes. Top speed for Corvettes on the track is typically about 100 – 120 mph. You can go as fast as you want. They will group drivers so people go about same speed. You can run other cars instead of Corvettes.
