***Lt. Robert Sunderland, a prisoner of the Germans from May 17, 1944 until late this spring, is visiting his parents Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Sunderland of Crookston. He will report in Miami, Florida, on August 5 for reassignment. Lt. Sunderland entered the army in 1941 and joined the air corps the fol- lowing September, receiving his silver wings at the Roswell, N. Y., army air base. After 25 successful missions as pilot of a Flying Fortress, trouble, in the form of German. anti-aircraft, his ship and the p e w were forced to bail out over Belgium with the nose and three engines shot out.

***Sgt. Bert A. Merdink has been awarded an air medal for meritorious achievement while participating in raids on Japan, according to an announce- ment by the 21st Bomber Command. He has been in the service for more than three years and overseas since March. Sgt. Merdink is a flight engi- neer serving with the army air forces in the Jaoanese theater.

***Esther McFarland, Sp. (X) 3/c, is stationed with a detachment of WAVES at U. S. N. P. G., Dahlgren, Virginia.

***Lt. (jg) Florence Altepeter was recently promoted from the rank of Ensign after serving 18 months as a navy nurse in Fort Eustis, Virginia.

***Captain Morris Magnuson, report- ed missing in action since March 14, has notified his parents that he has been liberated and will arrive in the United States in the near future.

***PFC Ralph C. Brandt was a pris- oner of the Germans from December 24, 1944, until April 15 when he was

liberated. He is spending his furlough at his home in Gonvick and will report to Hot Springs, Arkansas, on July 27 for reassignment.

***Major Clayton M. Isaacson 0- 662454, 49th Ftl. Gp., 8th Ftl. Sqdn, A. P. O. 70, c/o Postmaster, San Franciscp, California. He is serving as an active fighter pilot and in addition is Com- manding Officer of the 8th Ftl. Squad- ron (somewhere in the Philippines).

***PFC Maynard Colebank 37095040, Qrs. 66M, Ft. Omaha 11, Nebraska.

***S/Sgt. Albert J. Adler is at the Ninth Air Force Marauder Base in Belgium. He is an airplane mechanic and assistant crew chief with the 322nd Marauder Group known as the "An- nihilators."

***S/Sgt. Elmer Moe, who had been a German prisoner for 14 months, was liberated on May 2. He is spending a short furlough at his home at Hallock and is awaiting reassignment.

***Edmund D. Rydeen S 1/c, Bar- racks 1, Co. B-6, Coast Guard Training Station, Groton, Connecticut. He is attending the Basic Radio Technician School at Groton.

***Sgt. Glenn Dahlgren is in the U. S. Army Air Corps Ferry Command.

***Pvt. John Bach recently spent a 30-day furlough with his parents at East Grand Forks. He served six months in the 11th Armored Division of the Third Army in Luxembourg and Germany. He was later hospitalized in England. He is now at Camp Carson, Colorado.

***Clarence W. Skaren, MM 3 / c is serving aboard a seaplane tender which has just returned to the States with naval aviation personnel who had been operating from England. A veteran of 31 months in the Atlantic, he partici- pated in attacks on shipping near Nor- way in 1943.

***Sgt. Herbert A. Johnson has been assigned in Co. E, 2nd Battalion of the

***Dorothy Kliner graduated on May 27 from the St. Francis School of Nurs- ing at Lacrosse, Wisconsin.

***Angeline Quantock is employed as a telegraph operator by the Great Northern Railway Company at Hensel, North Dakota.

***Mr. and Mrs. Henry Johnson (Gladys Huartson) and twins, Dean and Deanne, a r e now living in Baudette, Minnesota.

***The Reverend Mr. and Mrs. Allan Lee (Helen Carlson) visited the campus on May 15.

***Leroy Hanson of Hallock, who has completed his pre- medic course and is now a sophomore in the School of Medicine, University of Minnesota, is attending the summer session at the University.

***Mrs. Henry E. Rueth (Olive Hee- gard), who is a Public Health nurse in

32nd (Red Arrow) Division, 126th In- the state of New Jersey, is attending the fantry, and is with the Division on University of Minnesota summer ses- Luzon, Philippine Islands, (Continued on Page 4, Col. 3)
