Notes on Contributors Patrick Boylan was Director of Exeter Museums and Art Gallery until his appointment as Director, Museums and Arts, Leicestershire County Council, in 1972. President of the Museums Association, 1988-90, and an active member of ICOM for many years, he took up his appointment as Professor and Head of the Department of Arts Policy and Management, City University, London, in October 1990. She is Collections Manager for the Virginia Museum of Natural History, Martinsville, with primary responsibility for developing and implementing a museum-wide collections care program. Dr Cato’s current research interests include the management and care of natural history collections, and the philosophy and functions of museums. Fortunato, the Director of Security at the Denver Art Museum, is a leading member of the International Committee for Museum Security (ICMS) and very active in the museum security field in the United States of America. The AIR Shield security system was developed by the Linear Measurement Technology Corp. in collaboration with him. (Denver Art Museum, 100 West 14th Avenue Parkway, Denver, CO 80204, USA) Ronald W. Keevil, a retired accountant, spent the last fifteen years of his working life in the Information Systems Department of Thames Television. His longstanding interest in all aspects of railways led him to form a group to set up a Railroad Centre in the United Kingdom focusing on the railways of North America. (The American Railroad Centre (UK), 8 J’ll’ I ian Close, Hampton, Middlesex TWl2 2NX, UK) Hilary Maddocks received her PhD from the University of Melbourne in 1990 and since then she has been engaged as Senior Research Assistant at the Ian Potter Art Conservation Centre at the University of Melbourne researching 19th- and 2Oth-century Australian picture framing. This research has formed part of a larger project on the authentication of Australian art, funded by the Australian Research Council.
