HHC and 597th Soldier and Spouse,

I would like to officially welcome the Sol-

diers and Spouses of the 597th Maintenance Detachment to our

family readiness group. Our first combined meeting I think

was a success and I hope that each of you continue to partici-

pate in this thriving organization. Be aware that this month has

two holidays with double the opportunity to spend ample time

with the family. Just be safe over the holidays and take care of

yourself and your family.

UPCOMING FAMILY EVENTS

Our monthly Hail and Farewell will be on 4 November at the

Ft. Rucker Bowling Alley at 1130. We will be welcoming 1 Soldier into the unit that will be

working in the personnel management office. The following week is the FRG Social with a

cooking class given by Eduardo Renta. The social will be back at the usual time and place,

The Commons at 1800. We need to have an RSVP by 4 November who plans on attending.

This way we can purchase the supplies before the class the following week. This will be the

only social event for the month but there are also fundraising opportunities. Check out the

fundraising page for more information.

UPCOMING TRAINING EVENTS

For the month of November, the Soldiers will be preparing equipment for upcoming field ex-

ercises as well as conducting a 6 mile road march in full uniform with a ruck sack. They have

all done well on the past two 4 mile marches and they are looking forward to this next chal-

lenge. Every few weeks we had a couple more miles as we work towards our goal of 12 miles

happening at the beginning of the New Year.

GERMAN ARMED FORCES PROFICIENCY BADGE COMPETITION

The Warhawks have 5 Soldiers that have been training diligently to compete for the German

Armed Forced Proficiency Badge; SPC Young, SGT Jarrell, SGT McManus, SGT Baldwin,

and myself. For the past 4 weeks, the 5 of us have been working every morning on running,

sprinting, shot put throwing, long jumping, swimming, as well as a 7.5 mile ruck march to top

it off. It has been exciting and challenging for many but as you read, this will be in the com-

petition phase with a completion date of 4 November. Wish us luck.

FACEBOOK

I would like to clarify a recent email that went out about our Facebook site. The site that our

FRG will be using to receive information is the ATSCOM/TAOG FRG site. Please reference

that for all questions. http://www.facebook.com/#!/ATSCOMTAOG

Families of the 597th,

The change in weather means a change in season. Winter will soon be here and with that

comes the cold temperatures so be prepared to bundle up. I encourage each of you to get

out and enjoy all that Fort Rucker has to offer. Please take a look at the Fort Rucker MWR

website to see what all is taking place around the local area.

This past month‟s calendar was very busy. We pushed out our new SRA 18 team and

welcomed back the Soldiers of SRA 17. SFC Bernal and I are very proud of what they have

done while we stand ready to support the spouses of SRA 18.

Of course, the Reorganization of the 597th to a detachment was of great significance to the

unit. CPT Brad Deloach and his wife Rebecca will certainly be missed. CPT Deloach has

dedicated the last 12 months of his life to this organization in preparation of the detachment.

He will definitely leave the 597th better than he found it. CPT Deloach will be moving to

the HHC 164th TAOG S-3 in preparation for the upcoming ATSSE deployment. Dejah and

I wish him and Rebecca the best on their next assignment. Thank you Sir for a job well

done!

The combined HHC/597th FRG meeting for this month is on the night of the 8th. I want to

invite each of you to come out enjoy in the cooking event planned. This will allow you, the

Family member, to see what you can do when it comes to creating a Thanksgiving Feast. I

know some of you have to work, but these types of events will be on-going, so please come

when you can.

It is amazing how fast the time goes. The month of November also highlights Veterans

Day. I ask that everyone takes time to think of what that means. It is a time to celebrate

what your Soldier does for this great Nation. Did you know that our Armed Forces make up

less than one percent of our total population? Our all volunteer force is the best in the world

and you should be proud of your Soldier. This time also marks a chance for us to remember

those who sacrifice everyday for our great nation.

The Soldiers of 597th continue to impress the command, and I am very proud to be a part of

this outstanding organization. If there is anything that Dejah or I can do for you, please to

do not hesitate to ask.

Fast and Furious!

CHAPLAIN

Hello 164th TAOG Family!

“Remember to Say Thanks”

During this time last year several Soldiers from the unit left

their families and deployed to Kuwait. Shortly after, my

assistant and I were planning to conduct a battlefield circu-

lation to visit the troops in Afghanistan for Thanksgiving.

Upon arriving at Farah, Afghanistan, our final stop, there

was not a MacDonald‟s, IHOP, Starbucks Coffee Shop or

even a Wal-Mart. That‟s right, no Wal-Mart! It quickly

reminded me, how often we take things for granted. On

Thanksgiving Day, however, my new Family and I made a

bee-line to the dining facility and as Apple Bee‟s would say “We ate good in the

neighborhood.” Even though I was not with my immediate Family, I remembered to

thank God that my Family in the USA was doing well. Often times, if we are not careful,

we can become overly engulfed by what we do not have, and fail to remember to thank

God for what we do have! One such Biblical story illustrates an ungrateful act by a group

blessed by God.

In Luke 17:12-17, “As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met

him … When he saw them, he said, „Go, show yourselves to the priests.‟ And as they

went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising

God in a loud voice.” This story points out several reasons as to why we should be grate-

ful.

First, all ten men had a need to be healed of leprosy. Due to this disease, they

were not allowed to enter the city to be with their families. They could not enjoy the com-

fort of their home, attend church, and could not be employed. In the midst of a vital need

among them, which they could not resolve on their own, they saw hope in God.

Secondly, with His unfailing love, God had mercy upon them in their hour of need

and miraculously cured them of the dreadful disease. In Luke 17, verses 17-18, Luke re-

veal three questions: “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Was no one

found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” Basically, only one out of

the ten healed men displayed an act of gratefulness and remembered to say thanks to God

for the blessing he received.

The purpose of this story is to challenge us to be thankful for God‟s blessings and

to glorify Him with praise. Has God ever made provisions for you during your hour of

need? During this Thanksgiving Day, do not mirror the nine men with unthankful atti-

tudes, but give thanks to God, just as one of the ten men did for his healing. In the words

of a hymnologist, “Count your blessings, name them one by one, see what God hath

done.” Surely, after counting, you too will remember to say thanks to God for meeting

needs in your life. Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello Warhawks and welcome to the new Soldiers and

Spouses of 597th.

I think our first meeting went very well and I am

looking forward to upcoming events with each of you.

I would really like to encourage those interested to

come out to the cooking class and learn to make a

special Thanksgiving dish. The FRG is supporting

this event so no money is required and daycare can be provided just as usual. There might

even be some door prices.

If you would like to work at the Thrift Shop, there will be a couple opportunities in

November. The hours are from 10-2, Wednesday through Friday, but you can work

whatever length works best with your schedule. Every little things counts.

We always continue to need volunteers, especially with the upcoming holidays. Check out

the fundraising flyer for more information on how you can participate. Volunteers are

important and it is with volunteers that this unit can be successful in communications,

planning, and execution. Those really put forth the effort and provide time with the unit

will be awarded accordingly. We like to recognize those that give their time as a thank you

and appreciation for what you do. Please help out where you can by letting me know what

you can offer to the company, anything can help.
