Major construction is now underway to remove the level crossings at North, Centre and McKinnon roads as part of the State Government’s commitment to remove 50 of the most dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne. The works include removing the level crossings by lowering the rail line below the roads, reconstructing Ormond, McKinnon and Bentleigh stations, and introducing improvements to the road and public transport connections. This will improve safety, reduce congestion and provide improved station facilities.

Over five weeks, large scale construction will be undertaken to remove the level crossings and rebuild the stations. Works include:

> Bulk earthworks to excavate the rail corridor > Build the new stations at Ormond, McKinnon and Bentleigh, with McKinnon Station to be operational for rail customers at the end of the 37 days

> Constructing the new rail line > Completing the installation of overhead structures and wiring

> Installing new signalling equipment and removing redundant equipment

> Relocating the water main on Centre Road.

To allow these works to be carried out safely, disruptions to train services on the Frankston line are planned between 9pm on Friday 24 June to the last service on Sunday 31 July 2016, and on the Stony Point line from Saturday 25 June to Sunday 31 July 2016.

Some nights and weekend road closures will be required, with local bus diversions in place when necessary.

The businesses on North, McKinnon and Centre roads will remain OPEN at all times during works.

There will be additional planned disruptions to trains on the Frankston line in 2016.
