The Mod 5 Has Arrived
Yesterday our new Mod 5 classroom arrived much to the excitement of us all.
The children and staff marvelled at the precision of the operation as the crane
arrived and the 5 sections arrived on semi-trailers then lifted high into the air
and placed on stumps. The Mod 5 classroom is the newest model with two
large teaching spaces, storage and office space. The Mod 5 will be fitted out,
plumbed, wired and fully commissioned by the end of next week.

Division School Softball Tournament
On the 25th of October, 10 boys (Mitchell, Ruari, Matthew, David, Bailey, Curtis,
Cohen, Troy, Raine and myself) competed in the Division School Softball Tournament. The boys competed in 4 games, winning 3, losing 1 and finishing
third overall.
The first game against Bayswater West Primary School was a great confidence boosting warmup winning 12-0. The second game against Heeney Park was a
rough game, losing 9-5. In two of the three innings, we finished with runners on base, but couldn’t bring them home. The final game of the pool stage was
against Templeton Primary School. This game was to decide who would play off for third. This was a tight fought game, where we came from 1 run to 2 down to
finish 4-2 in front.
The final game of the competition was for third and fourth place against Lysterfield Primary School. We got out to an early lead, with the lads coming off
victorious with a 7-1 lead after the first innings. Lysterfield came back with another 4 runs, but another 3 runs from the lads in the second innings sealed
the third spot. The boys winning 10-5.
Congratulations to the lads for a fantastic tournament. Great to finish third. Special thanks to Ms Kalbitzer for coaching the team. Without you, we wouldn’t
be able to play as well as we did. Special thanks also to Stephen Keam for assistant coaching and driving some lunatics, as well as Sally Shelton and Emma
McLachlan for driving a bunch of other lunatics to and from the ground. Another congrats to the boys for an amazing tournament.

HAVE YOU
HEARD THE
This week we buzzed outside for a picnic
afternoon tea! The weather was beautiful and we
enjoyed our fruit and fried rice outside. After we
finished eating we had a quick little dance party
on the basketball courts doing the Nutbush and
Macarena. We then enjoyed some group games on
the basketball court.
We have continued to work on some puzzles in
the Hive this week. The Animalia puzzle is
proving a challenge for our older students while
some new smaller puzzles are challenging the
younger students. The puzzles have created an
activity for the children to work together and
discuss how to best solve it.

Poetry By 3/4C
Last term, 3/4C completed a unit of work on poetry. We learnt about creating a vivid
image in our mind to help support the writing of our poetry. We had a go at writing
cinquain poems and colour poems. When writing the colour poems we used our senses
to help strengthen the images we were trying to create in the reader’s mind. When
writing cinquain poems we used our knowledge of parts of speech and syllabication to
follow a prescribed pattern and create an image and feeling in our reader. Here are
some examples of our writing:

Green Leaf By Justin
Green looks like plump green grapes been harvested on a grape field,
Green tastes like fresh mint grown in wet soil,
Green smells like eucalyptus leaves after a heavy rain in spring time,
Green sounds like grasshoppers chirping at dusk,
Green feels like smooth green grass under my feet.
Violent Red
By Nicholas
Red looks like blood spilling from your leg when you fall down,
Red tastes like ripe, juicy strawberries melting in my mouth in the late afternoon,
Red feels like my heart banging against my rib cage,
Red sounds like fire roaring and destroying a village,
Red smells like ripe cherries freshly picked in the early morning.
Aqua
By Shrihan
Aqua looks like a sea star in the ocean, drifting around the seaweed,
Aqua tastes like nice fresh blueberries on a hot autumn day,
Aqua smells like the salty ocean waving and crashing on rocks on the beach,
Aqua sounds like calm waves in the ocean and rain dripping on the footpath,
Aqua feels like a soft cushion and a blue blanket keeping me warm.
The Pink Poem
By Hannah
Pink looks like a fluffy dressing gown being worn by a little girl.
Pink tastes like a fresh strawberry ice-cream on a hot summer’s day.
Pink sounds like a loud pop during fireworks in a night sky.
Pink feels like a smooth, silky gown in a dancing ball room.
Pink smells like a freshly bloomed flower in a green paddock.
Devine Yellow
By Chloe
Yellow looks like bright, neon buttercups waving in the wind.
Yellow tastes like sour, tense lemons squeezed on the tip of your tongue.
Yellow smells like a birthday lemon cheese cake frozen in the freezer.
Yellow sounds like sweet, delicate corns munched through teeth.
Yellow feels like the flaming sun burning against your face on the tan beach.
Scenes of Orange
By Evana
Orange tastes like sweet summer oranges on a hot summer’s day,
Orange feels like soft warm sand running through my toes,
Orange looks like a bright, vibrant sunrise rising from the dark,
Orange smells like a match that’s just burnt out,
Orange sounds like fireworks popping at New Year’s Eve.
Aqua
By Joel
Aqua tastes like sweet blue heaven ice-cream melting in my mouth,
Aqua feels like runny water dripping through my fingers,
Aqua looks like the eyes of my family glittering the morning sun,
Aqua sounds like a waterfall crashing onto the rocks below,
Aqua smells like stinky seaweed coming in from the salty ocean.
