Summary

National University of Science and Technology intends to install CCTVsystem in its premises and invited quotations for the same. Thisinstallation is a partial project that covers only a specific departmentnot the whole premises as NUST intends to deploy surveillancesystem phase by phase, eventually covering entire premises of NUST.

Alhamdulillah, with our vast experience in related field we are able tooffer comprehensive solutions for almost any king of surveillanceapplication in any environment. In this document, different types ofCCTV solutions are discussed in order to provide technicalunderstanding, enabling you to select the appropriate optionaccording to your requirements and budget.

Flaw in Installation Process

Before we discuss different types of CCTV, there is something extremely importantto discuss first.

Seemingly, your esteemed authority is going to invite bids one by one for everyphase and may select different type/make/models for different phases. Forexample, AVTech was demanded (AVer is installed) in Hostel phase and nowEverfocus is demanded for Annexe phase. This way you may end up havingmultiple types and brands of CCTV systems with different specifications,communication protocols and different remote/central monitoring software.

This era is of intelligent surveillance and central/remote management,where seamless integration capabilities are very important.

Suppose, 4 different brands/types of CCTV system installed in different phases.

Now, after covering entire area (all phases), a control center has to be built to monitor and manage entire surveillance

systems from one platform.

All systems of different phases shall not be able to communicate to a single CMS software. Because proprietary compression formats and encoding methods, every recorder will be able to communicate only with its own CMS software.

4 different CMS software on 4 separate computer systems shall be required.

It can be called central monitoring but it won’t be an Centrally managed Integrated Intelligent Surveillance System

Security staff shall need training on 4 different systems, which is much more

difficult than getting expertise on 1 system. Smooth hassle free operation

cannot be expected until separate staff trained and deputed for each system. But

it will increase concurrent cost.

4 Vendors to handle.

It is hectic to handle 4 different vendors for one system. Specially at Control Center, where a blame

game will continue till end of warranty period. Every vendor will accuse other for faults because of

sharing same room, same cabinets, same wiring junction points, same network points etc.

You can request State Bank of Pakistan to share their experience if you want to further confirm the consequences of having multiple vendors for same product.

Now coming to the technology, your esteemed authority have invited quotations for ANALOG CCTV system, which is the old technology

and now phasing out.

Due to its outstanding features IP Technology is taking over rapidly and pure Analog technology is

expected to be obsolete in couple of years.

Is it wise to invest in an out-dated technology?

Answer is obvious “NO”

Lets have a look at some advantages of

IP CCTV

Cost Effectiveness

If only this phase is considered, Analog CCTV system is quite cost effective solution (if video resolution is not

considered).

But if all phases are considered as one project, it becomes a huge project and for such a huge project IP solution becomes more cost effective because different wiring

structure and maintenance requirements. High Definition image quality and other features are extra advantages.

Resolution

IP Cameras offer extraordinarily high resolution, providing crisp clear images

with lot of detail for enhanced monitoring and forensic search, which is

not achievable with Analog Cameras.

These are highest resolutions achievable with Analog Cameras.

Analog SDI cameras offer HD resolution but not viable due to high cost and limited functionality. Only good to upgrade existing system without wiring replacement.

These are standard HD IP camera resolutions but not highest. These are only 2 Megapixel camera images while up to 5 megapixel CCTV cameras are already in the market and still counting for higher.

Wider Field of View

IP Cameras offer comparatively wider Field of View, reducing number of

required cameras.

Please check installation layout (left). HD camera is providing more than 90⁰ Horizontal

Field of View. Such a wide coverage is not possible with Analog cameras. At least 3

analog cameras will be required to cover this area with same image depth.

Please note

Due to wider field of view HD cameras do reduce the number of required cameras but it depends on coverage area too. It

may not apply on every location.

RECOMMENDATION

Keeping in view all above ALi recommends a Hybrid System which can communicate with both IP and Analog cameras, allowing you to make a cost effective system by using low cost analog cameras for general activity monitoring and High Resolution HD IP cameras for critical areas monitoring, all integrated seamlessly to form an

intelligent surveillance system.

But before selection of equipment it is very necessary to make a comprehensive surveillance system design first, covering entire

premises of NUST. System will be designed in whole but installation will be done phase vise as desired by NUST

As mentioned earlier, system design will be made for entire area but installation will be done phase by phase. Different phases may contain different types and models but it will still allow seamless integration with control center due to proper planning and right selection of products.

After completing all phases Control Center will be built to manage whole system from a single platform.
