"BJ" Gianncne III, ] 8, of Mountainside died Jan. 31 following his participation in a swim meet, where he was repre- senting Saint Peter's Preparatory High School, Jersey City. Born in Nassau County, N.Y., Mr. Giannone moved to Mountain- side on his third birthday. He attended Deerfield Elementary School in Mountainside, then entered Saint Peter's preparatory High School. Mr. Giannone was involved in many sports and com- munity service activities. As a Cub Scout, he and his group created the "gift box" public art display at the Mountainside Borough Hall Christ- mas Tree site. Mr. Giannone was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes CYO in Mountainside, and partici- pated in projects that increased awareness and did fund-raising for social issues, such as homelessness. At Saint Peter's Preparatory School, he pursued education and developed international interests. Mr. Giannone and his parents became involved in student exchange and were hosts to an Ital- ian student. He visited the student's family in Italy. In school, he was interested in sports. Mr. Giannone was a member of the baseball team all four years. He also was in his first year of swimming. Mr. Gian- none wanted to become a sports broadcaster and recently was a color commentator for the school's football games. He was selected to be a "henchman" for Marauders' Nation, the school's spirit group. Mr. Giannone was on the year- book committee during junior and senior year, offering more of his leadership and organizing skills, as he did when he co-founded the Society for Comedic Appreciation, "S.C.A.," where the students could watch comedy films and memorize the scripts. In Campus Ministry, Mr. Giannone combined his reli- gious beliefs for the disenfran- chised. He mentored students, and in 2009, went to West Virginia, where he worked in a camp for underprivileged children. This year, Mr. Giannone had scheduled him- self to go to New Orleans to assist in the continuing efforts for the vic- tims of Hurricane Katrina. He also received notice of acceptance at Virginia Technical Institute. Mr. Giannone also wrote 85 songs. Surviving are his mother, Mau- reen Culley Giannone, and his father, William J. Giannone Jr. The Bradley Funeral Home han- dled the arrangements. Dr. Joel Levinson Dr. Joel Levinson of Mountain- side, a gastroenterologist in Spring- field and president of the medical staff of Overlook Hospital, Sum- mit, died Feb. 3 at home. He also maintained a second home in Chicago. Dr. Levinson's late father, Dr. David Levinson, had been a Newark pediatrician. Dr. Joel Levinson graduated from Cornell University in 1959. He attended Georgetown Medical School and later studied at the University of Chicago and at Vanderbilt Univer- sity, Nashville, Tenn. In 1971, Dr. Levinson entered private practice in Springfield and continued to maintain his practice until his retirement in 2010. He served as a chief of gastroenterolo- gy and later chief of medicine at Overlook Hospital. Dr. Levinson became vice president of the med- ical staff at Overlook and then pres- ident. He earned appointments as assistant professor of medicine at Columbia University and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. The syllabus Dr. Levinson established helped prepare doctors for the boards in gastroenterology. In the 1960s, he served as a captain in the Air Force. He originally was responsible for long-distance running for weight loss and later competed in many marathons, including Boston. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Barbara; two daughters, Marcy and Dana, and seven grand- children. The Menorah Chapels at Mill- burn in Union handled the arrange- ments. Paul Ambrose Sr. Paul N. Ambrose Sr., 87, of Union died Jan. 30 in the Cranford Health and Extended Care Center. Born in Newark, Mr. Ambrose resided in Union. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater from 1942 to 1945 and was involved in the bat- tles of Guadalcanal and Bougainville as a heavy machine gun crewman. After the war, Mr. Ambrose was employed by Anheuser-Busch for 37 years and was an owner of two Amoco gaso- line stations. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Victoria; a son, Paul N. Jr.; a daughter, Kathleen Burns; a broth- er, Franklin, and six grandchildren. The McCracken Funeral Home, Union, handled the arrangements. Daniel Bastos Daniel Bastos, 26, of Roselle died Jan. 30 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Bastos lived in Roselle most of his life. He was a forklift operator for Van Brunt Co., Elizabeth, for the past year. Previously, Mr. Bastos worked for Plymouth Printing Co., Cranford, as a printer's assistant. Surviving are his parents, Jose and Maria Amelia Bastos; his paternal grandmother, Olivia Bas- tos; his maternal grandfather, Alexandrino Basots; a brother, Jose, and three sisters, Chelsea, Lily and Celia. The Leonard-Lee Funeral Home handled the arrange- ments. Louise Blossom Louise S. Blossom, 83, of Sum- mit died Feb. 3 in Winchester Gar- dens, Maplewood. Mrs. Blossom lived in the Hart- ford, Conn., area, moved to New Jersey in 1961 and lived in Summit and vicinity for more than 30 years. She was active in the affairs of the Summit United Methodist Church, the Summit College Club and Sum- mit schools as an occasional substi- tute teacher. Mrs. Blossom was an avid duplicate bridge player and achieved the ACBL rank of bronze life master. Surviving are her husband, John K.; a son, John J.; a daughter, Anne B. McManus, and a grandchild.. The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, Maplewood, handled the arrangements. George Cadorette George Cadorette, A. of Roselle Park died Feb. 3 in Cornell Hall Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center, Union. Born in Quebec, Canada, Mr. Cadorette lived in Douglas, Mass., and for 30 years in Roselle Park. He was an Army veteran of World war II and served in the Battle of Rhineland and the European- African-Middle Eastern Campaign. Carmela Cocuzza Carmela Lucy Cocuzza, 91, of Cranford died Feb. 1 at home. Born in Elizabeth, Mrs. Cocuz- za lived in Cranford for 60 years. During World War II, she was a "Rosie the Riveter" for the General Motors Corp., Linden, later, Mrs. Cocuzza was a secretary for Hasco, Newark. She retired many years ago. Mrs. Cocuzza was a member of the AARP and the Multiple Scle- rosis Society. Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Philip C; two daughters, Anne Marie Guiliano and Lorraine Palmieri; two sons, Philip and Michael; two sisters, Margaret Koberski and Mary Caldwell; five grandchildren and two great-grand- children. The Gray Memorial Funeral Home, Cranford, handled the arrangements. Dominic DiMuccio Dominic Antonio DiMuccio, 94, a lifelong resi- dent of Sum- mit, died Feb. 2 in Overlook Hospi- tal, Summit. Mr. DiMuccio was born in Mur- ray Hill. He worked as chief of maintenance for the Union County Park Commission, now referred to as Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders. He also conducted the Trap and Skeet Range for 42 years and retired in 1980. Following his retirement from Union County, Mr. DiMuccio worked as chief of main- tenance for the City of Summit Chamber of Commerce for more than 10 years. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and was one of six brothers to serve overseas and return home safely following their honorable discharge. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Jiacondina Anna; two daugh- ters, Bernadette DiMuccio Yeager and Rose DiMuccio Rickey; three brothers, Frank and Frederick DiMuccio and Harold Demarest; a sister, Julia Caffery; 12 grandchil- dren and 15 great-grandchildren. Janet Faithful! Janet H. Faithfull, 88, of Sum- mit died Feb. 3 in Berkeley Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Bom in Newark, Mrs. Faithfull lived in Irvington before moving to Summit in 1953. She was an exec- utive secretary at Western Electric Co., Kearny. Mrs. Faithfull then worked as secretary to the reading counselors of the elementary schools in Sum- mit before becoming secretary of two superintendents of the schools. She retired in 1983 after 15 years. Mrs. Faithfull was a longtime member of the Central Presbyterian Church, Summit. Surviving are two sons, Donald and Douglas, and two grandchil- dren.

Mr. DiMuccio was born in Mur-ray Hill. He worked as chief ofmaintenance for the Union CountyPark Commission, now referred toas Union County Board of ChosenFreeholders.
