COCOON TECHNOLOGY™

In order to protect, preserve, vectorize a substance with a controlled-release , Coatex has developed an innovative technology of micro-encapsulation, the Cocoon technology™.

Protect, preserve a substance from an external matrix

Once encapsulated, the substance no more interacts with its external environment. Substance and matrix are preserved from each other. It’s a way to protect an aggressive or toxic substance from external stresses as humidity or light within an innocuous matrix.

Vectorization of components in water

Once encapsulated, an hydrophobic substance or agent can be carried in water. The micro-encapsulation process allows to get ride of organic solvents or to introduce organic substance into water based formulations.

Controlled releaseA key interest of the Cocoon technology™ is to optimize the substance delivery either by a release over

time or by a stimuli triggered fast liberation.

An innovation, a micro-encapsulation process using macromolecules

The innovative aspect lies in the combination of different benefits:• Eco-friendly: Non toxic, solvent free, surfactant free,• Simplicity: Easy to carry out under mild process conditions,• Versatility: Applicable to a wide range of hydrophobic substances.

Our strong know-how in acrylic polymers is an essential asset to customize this micro-encapsulation process to each customer needs.

This technology is protected by at least 6 patents.

MICRO-ENCAPSULATION

An example, the micro-encapsulation of pheromones for an environmentally friendly solution to replace

pesticides

Coatex and the M2i Life Sciences group have a cooperation agreement on micro-encapsulation technology and its application for crop protection.

The process consists in the micro-encapsulation of pheromones dedicated to the protection against insects invasion without use of pesticide.

With to the Cocoon technology™ , the pheromones can be controlled and sustainably spread on

different vegetation types. The pesticide-free control of species harmful for our forests and our health (highly stinging species) is made possible and can be apply to any kinds of crop protection.

In the case of the pine processionary caterpillar, the pheromone active ingredient is micro-encapsulated thanks to the Cocoon technology™ by a natural, biodegradable wax.

This innovation allows to extend the release period to 120 days. All the pest life-cycle can be covered, from egg to butterfly.
