Did you know ? The School year in Tanzania runs from January to December with the months

of April, August and December off. Thus, children graduate from their gradein November and move to the next higher grade in January.

The grading scale is very different from ours with test scores of 30 generallyconsidered passing. Our goal is not to have just passers but rather high

achievers, equipped to serve their Community.

The children rarely take books home, so if you're considering giving your childa backpack, make it a small sports bag-type bag.

Having things monogrammed with your child's name sounds like such a greatidea, but remember that the children are very likely to share whatever they get,or even give it to a younger sibling at some point, so a name might not be thebest thing to have on the item.

While they are learning English at school, for most of the children this is their3rd language. Imagine reading in your 3rd language, which most Americansdon't even have! If you send your child a book or Bible, go down at least agrade level or more in level of difficulty from the child's age and grade level.

Public schools may have more than 75 children per teacher we try to main-tain our PUNCHMI school at 30 students per class. Concerned teachers withtime for students are our greatest asset.

At PUNCHMI Christian School we provide a Headmaster and thirteen teach-ers. We also have cooks, grounds keepers, and guards. (Can you imaginecooking over a wood/charcoal fire for 300 students and staff two meals aday) In serving the widows and community ministries we also have a socialworker and two pre-school teachers. For a total paid Staff of 37 committedindividuals all enabled by Project Child donations. Asante Sana Bwana

Our last mail package was successfullydelivered to Tanzania along with some150 work gloves that the widows of

Perimeter provided for the widows ofKaransi. Nice gift ladies! We pack-aged them all together and mailedthem over via good ole USPS.

Well-, not the brightest of moves.

You see, when the package arrived inTanzania, it needed to go through Cus-toms. Now a bunch of letters and afew little gifts would not be a problem, but 150 work glovesnot so easy, asany good Customs Agent is going toassume they will be sold and thus want

to add duty or tariff. Like $150.

After a few days, and good negotia-tions by Nicholas we at least got theprice cut in half and the gloves and

letters were on their way to Karansi.

So, when is the next mail opportuni-

ty? Get letters and small packages to

Each year we take an additional 30students into our Kindergarten Pro-gram at Punchmi Christian School.

They are screened and selected by Pas-tor Wariaeli, Headmaster Godfrey andthe school staff, insuring not only thatthe child comes from an impoverishedsituation, but also that the parents aresupportive of the educational oppor-tunity and will invest in ownership ofthe childs education. This includespayment of minimal fees, or work in

kind, as the parents are able.

This means that we continually need tofind additional sponsors who are will-

ing to give a child a chance to becomewhat God has intended. Can you help

    us find more sponsors??

Two children needing sponsored canbe seen below Please pray that God

will lead us to sponsors for both

Approval was finally received for PUNCHMI to offi-cially acquire land as a non-governmental entity mak-ing it possible for them to receive the land donated bythe village of Karansi. (There is a lot of red tape inTanzania) This means that construction of the School

Library and Admin building, which occupies some ofthat land, will soon be underway. More details in next

months issue of the Tanzania Journal.
