We had a very successful first meeting last week - it
was lovely to see some new faces. There have
been lots of events planned for the coming year,
details of which can be found on the website
above. We will be kicking off the fundraising with a
new event for us;
‘Halstow Halloween Disco’ 16th October 6.30 - 8.30.
All children welcome. Fancy dress, disco games,
Trick or Treat Tuck Shop and Bar.
Tickets on the door, or from Bell House and
As usual all events can only be run with the help
and support of the parents and carers of children
at the school. If you would like to get involved
please drop us an email on
Bell House Coffee Morning - every Friday from 9am,
come on in for a cuppa and a catch up. All

Learning Walk around the School Roving Reporters
Reception
By Amrita and Maxwell
This week, in Reception
children have been
describing their homes and
where they live. In
Numeracy they have been
looking at 3D shapes,
learning their names and
describing them to the rest
of the class. Theo told us, “I
enjoyed learning about 3D
shapes because we got to
play with them!” Logan
then stated, “I have a big terraced house which
looks like a 3D shape.”
Year 1&2
By Isabella and Mario
In P.E. the children in
Year 1&2 have been
enjoying their dancing,
linking it to the weather
patterns of rainforests.
Lucy, in Year 2, stated
that she liked it because
she enjoyed moving
around and pretending to be the weather. This
week, they have also enjoyed recounting and
changing the book ‘Walking through the Jungle’
creating their own version called ‘Walking through
the Rainforest’. They also went on an exciting
shape hunt in Numeracy.
Year 3&4
By Floss and Daniel
Was Henry the 8th
good or bad? That
is the questions
which Year 3&4
have been
pondering in
History. They are
researching the positive and negative traits of this
historical figure. Computing has been challenging
this week with the task of creating comic strips.
Jack exclaimed, “It was really fun!” In Spanish they
have been learning about numbers and calendars.
Also, in Numeracy they have been exploring the
properties of 2D shapes.
Year 5&6
By Daniel and Floss
Children in Year 5&6
have been investigating
interesting methods to
find out if a number is in
a specific times table.
Gemtabitha stated, “In
maths, we have been
seeing if a number is a
factor of another big number. My favourite was the
7 x table as I had never heard of that one before.”
PE has been exhilarating and hard work as they
have continued with their ‘Boot Camp’ exercise
regime. In Science, they have also been
researching how night and day are created and
why, when one half of the earth is night, the other
half is day.
Philosophical Question of the Week
By Mario and Isabella
This week’s philosophical question is:
“Is it ever wrong to be polite?”
What do you think?
School Dinners
By Floss and Daniel
The children have,
once again, been
enjoying their school
dinners. This week,
bangers and mash
seemed to be the most
popular meal with
many children giving it
10/10. It is good to see that many children are
choosing fruit to eat and are helping themselves to
the extensive salads which are always on offer.
Weekend Weather
By Mario and Isabella
This weekend will see highs of 15 degrees C on
Saturday and 16 degrees C on Sunday. We suggest
you could go for a walk in the park or swimming at
your local pool.
Music News
By Maxwell and Amrita
This week, Years 1&2 have still been focusing on
their orchestral topic. Harry in Year 1 stated, “I really
like looking at the musical notes and the different
instruments.” In Year 3&4 they have still been
learning the blues. Clara, in Year 3 stated, “I found
this lesson very exciting because we got to make
up the words and put them together with the
music. We also had fun playing with the music.

News from The Holly Tree Club
We are privileged to have two sites now for our
after school club and we aim to provide the same
highly individualised care and attention for your
children at both The Bridge and The Bell House. Our
aim is to provide a ‘home from home’ environment
where we celebrate every child’s personality; we
identify their needs, likes and dislikes and provide a
wide range of activities to promote a rich play
environment and to help children in their physical
and emotional development.
We always aim to be as flexible as possible in order
to meet the needs of Halstow's working parents. For
breakfast club or after school club, please text,
email or call Holly on 07971 215411 or
[email protected] at any time prior
to the days you require (on the day is fine too!) and
subject to space, we will be happy to look after
your children for you.
Breakfast club at The Bridge Mondays to Fridays
from 8am: we provide a range of healthy cereals,
toast with various toppings, orange juice and hot
chocolate in the winter. We love this time of the
day and we enjoy helping the children have a
good breakfast and be happy and ready for
school.
October half term holiday club Monday 26 to
Thursday 29 October: we continue with our tried,
tested and loved formula of days out between
9am and 3pm then back at The Bridge for arts and
crafts, sports, game and imaginative play until
6pm. The day starts at 8am for breakfast and
finishes at 6pm. Again, we are flexible, so if you
want to drop off at 9am and pick up at 3pm or
other combinations, please get in touch.

Come and visit the Westcombe Woodlands at the
special Open Day on Sunday 4th October 10am -
4pm. Local volunteers have been working hard
over the past couple of years to make a wonderful
wild enclave just behind Maze Hill station. Local MP
Matthew Pennycock will be officially opening the
new entrance at Seren Park. Please come and
have a cup of tea and show your support!
