The E-mail Coordinator is an appointed officer of the HSRDC who carries out the following important func-tions.
1. Maintain e-mail distribution list of dancers in HSRDC who wish to receive electronic communications.
2. Sends messages to the HSRDC distribution lists in accordance with the HSRDC e-mail policy adopted in 2002.

One of the follow-ing options should work:1. Save the file to your computer. Right click the link on the web page. Click Save Target As.....then choose a location that you will remember such as your desktop. Open the saved file.2. Open the file directly in the reader. Open Acro-bat Reader, click Edit, Preferences, Internet and deselect the option to open in browser.3. Adobe Reader and Internet Explorer do not always play well together. Download Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome and use that as your browser.4. Change the security settings in Adobe Reader to deselect enhanced security (Edit, Preferences, Security, deselect Enable Enhanced Security).5. What Is Conclave? On February 28th and March 1st, the TSFSRD Conclave will be
held in Katy, Texas. It is being hosted by HSRDC. Many of you are asking, “What is this Conclave?”
Conclave is one of four annual meetings held by the Texas State Federation Of Square and Round Dancers® (TSFSRD). You may know this organization as the one that provides your insurance. At the Conclave meeting, the officers for the 2014-15 year will be elected. They will take office July 1st.
As part of the Conclave meeting, there will be a Friday night dance, a Saturday morning business meeting, a Saturday afternoon luncheon and a Saturday night dance. ALL DANCERS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND ALL EVENTS. There is no charge to attend the business meeting. See this issue of the Where’n’When for more information.
We encourage you to join us for a unique opportunity to visit with your
Texas State Federation Officers.

Presidents’ Message The year is off to a good start. Our website has been revamped
and is now easier to navigate. If you haven’t done so, check out our new look at www.squarethru.com.
Our first graduation comes with our students with Lake Jackson Promenaders. Each of the graduates this year will receive a gift from HSRDC if they attend the 2014 Houston Hoedown.
The Presidents’ Ball begins the month on February 1st. We will honor all of our club Presidents. Be sure and bring a square from your club so that your Presidents is admitted to the dance free of charge. Don’t forget your side dish to feed 8. The HSRDC Exec Board will provide the main course. See our ad in this issue.
We will round out the month with the TSFSRD Conclave on February 28th and March 1st. This is a unique opportuniity to visit with our Texas State Federation officers. See this issue for more information.
As always, we are visiting our clubs around Houston. We are travelling from down south for the Ganado Mustang Stampede to up north for the Bluebonnets Valentine’s Dance. We hope you can join us. Visit the Special Events page of the website to see where we will be.

TEXAS TEEN SCHOLARSHIPSIn 1981, Mildred Monk, a former Texas State Federation of Square and Round Dance Teen Coordinator, the Monk family and friends awarded three scholarships to square dancing teens in memory of her late hus-band, Frank Monk. The family continued to award scholarships each year until August 1984 when the TSF-SRD delegates voted to assume responsibility for the scholarships and changed the name to the Frank and Mildred Monk Scholarship Fund.
Scholarships are awarded annually to graduating High School seniors who are actively involved in square dance related activities and plan to further their education. Since 1981, when the first awards were present-ed, over 90 scholarships have been awarded to square dancing teens from all over the State of Texas. Letters of recommendation on behalf of graduating teens are accepted from any square dance official.
High School seniors must have danced two years prior to the Scholarship application deadline of March 20th of the year in which they will be graduating. Note this is an earlier deadline than in past years.
