This training course is referred to as ‘Offshore Survival’. During this training programme delegates will gain a basic level of understanding and awareness of the hazards encountered when working on offshore installations, and of the safety regime and safety management systems in place to control and mitigate those hazards. The course is a mix of theoretical and practical sessions, during which delegates will be required to demonstrate their level of knowledge and understanding of the training programme content. Prerequisites Due to certain aspects of the course being physically demanding and potentially stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing a medical self-screening form prior to course commencement. • Have knowledge of the offshore industry incl: Offshore hazards & control measures, offshore safety management, how offshore safety is regulated and living & working in the offshore environment. • Understand the processes involved in helicopter travel & be competent in their ability to escape from a ditched or ditching helicopter in an emergency situation using the emergency breathing system (EBS). • Have knowledge of what to do in an evacuation situation: How to respond to alarms, the systems used to achieve successful evacuation and the actions to take in the event of a water entry situation. • Understand what is meant by emergency firstaid and how to assist in a first aid situation prior to arrival of the medic. • Be competent in the use of portable fire extinguishers for basic firefighting and be confident in self-rescue techniques used to successfully escape smoke filled enviroments. OPITO APPROVED BOSIET WITH HUET AND EBS - 3 DAYS

The course will: train delegates in safety subjects including manual handling, working at height, risk assessment and mechanical lifting, to introduce them to the fundamental safety elements of the oil and gas industry. The course is a mix of theoretical and practical sessions, during which delegates will be required to demonstrate their level of knowledge and understanding of the training programme content.

Prerequisites

None

Familiar with the relevant regulations pertaining to working offshore.

• Aware of safety systems in use in the oil and gas industry.

• Knowledgeable in relation to various subjects, including: the permit to work system, the risk assessment process, safety observationsystems, asset integrity, working at height, manual handling, controlling hazardous substances and mechanical lifting activities.

• Able to prepare a risk assessment, highlight the controls from a permit, manually handle loads safely and complete a safety observation card.

• Aware of the hazardous environment offshore as well as environmental issues.

OPITO APPROVED MIST - 2 DAYS

This is a 2 hour course in which delegates will gain a basic understanding of an escape chute of the type most commonly used in the offshore environment and will be assessed in the safe use of this system.

Prerequisites

Delegates must be at least 16 years of age. Due to certain aspects of the course being physically demanding and potentially stressful,delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing a medical self-screening form prior to course commencement

By the end of this training programme the delegate will:

• Have knowledge of how and when an escape chute will be deployed.

• Understand what is meant by correct PPE for escape chute entry.

• Be confident in the practical use of an escape chute of the type most commonly used offshore.

Certification: A Survivex Norwegian Escape Chute certificate. Valid for the same period as the individuals’ current BOSIET or FOET certificate.

NORWEGIAN ESCAPE CHUTE - 2 HOURS

The OPITO approved Compressed Air – Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) Initial Deployment training programme is designed for personnel travelling to or from offshore installations/vessels via helicopter where a Compressed Air Breathing System will be provided for use in the case of an emergency ditching. The CA-EBS Initial Deployment training programme provides the delegate with the knowledge and understanding of the particular hazards and properties of a CA-EBS and appropriate emergency response actions to take should the requirement for emergency use arise. All practical training will be completed in a dry environment.

Prerequisites

Delegates must possess a valid BOSIET / FOET certificate or a valid HUET certificate prior to attending the OPITO CA-EBS InitialDeployment Training Programme. Due to certain aspects of the course being physically demanding and potentially stressful,delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing medical self-screening form prior to course commencement

By the completion of this training delegates will be able to explain:• The fundamental differences between re-breather and compressed air systems (technology and use)• The rationale and use of compressed air emergency breathing systems in helicopter emergency situations• The hazards associated with compressed air emergency breathing systems

By the completion of this training delegateswill be able to demonstrate:• A pre-flight inspection of the life jacket and CA-EBS• Correctly don the life jacket with CA-EBS correctly, including “buddy checks”• The correct emergency deployment of the CA-EBS in a dry environment
