Oh Corbeau ! Oh Corbeau !ᐅ ᑲᑲ᙮ ᐅ ᑲᑲ᙮

Cw was a curious bird who liked collecting shiny things Crow would hide pop bottle caps and candy wrappers in his beak and wings

Crow was a proud bird too with fancy feathers and good looks he was smart and spoke Native words without ever reading books

One day Nanabush was giving gifts and colors to birds everywhere In the moment Crow heard the news he leapt up from his chair

“Off and away I go,” announced Crow, “in search of the perfect hue…”

Oh Crow, oh Crow soaring through skiesadmiring all the birds as you pass byOh Crow, oh Crow, who will you see todaybut little Robin along the way

“Oh what beauty you are!” Loudly Crow shrieked as he tipped his shades to inspect Robin from tail to beak

“Your feathers are so soft and so fine and how red you are like fire, like rubies, like wine

I want to be red just like you! Can you grant me this wish dear Nanabush?”

“ — Oh Crow, oh Crow, curious you are indeed your feathered friend Robin is the first beauty you’ve seen

Oh Crow! Oh Crow!

Je veux être aussi rouge que vous ! Pourras-tu m’accorder ce souhait Cher Nanabush ? »

I’ll grant you this wish I’ll make you red, just the same but I won’t grant too many more since this isn’t a game Remember not to lose sight of your very own flight”

With a wiggle of a tail and a song in a sigh Nanabush changed Crow right before his very eyes and when the change was all over Crow looked himself over with a smile “How beautiful am I?”

Off and away he went to take rest through the night until he continued his journey at the first signs of light

Oh Crow, oh Crow, soaring through skiesadmiring all the birds as you pass byOh Crow, oh Crow, who will you see todaybut little Canary along the way

“Hark, hark dear canary your feathers are so smooth, so fine and how yellow you are like sunshine, like lemon meringue

I want to be yellow like you! Dear Nanabush, can you grant me my wish?”

“ — Oh Crow, oh Crow, I’ll grant you this wish I’ll make you yellow, just the same but I won’t grant too many more since this isn’t a game Remember not to lose sight of your own unique flight”

“Dear Nanabush, can you hear me will you grant me my wish?”

“ — Oh Crow, oh Crow, curious you are indeed your feathered friend Peacock is the most beautiful you’ve seen I’ll grant you this wish make you Peacock’s beautiful hues but this is the very last wish I’ll ever grant for you, got it? Remember not to lose sight of your own unique flight”

With a wiggle of a tail and a song in a sigh Nanabush changed Crow right before his very eyes and when the change was all over Crow looked himself over with a pout:

“What’s this all about? Nanabush, you lied you must change me back never ever did I ask you to turn me black!”

All Nanabush could do was smile softly and say

“Remember not to lose sight of your own unique flight”

Oh Crow, oh Crow, soaring through skiesadmiring all the birds as you pass by

Oh Crow, oh Crow, who will you see todaybut your very own reflection along the way

If you look closely at Crow’s feathers in their shine you’ll see many colors gleam even though Crow might appear only black his beauty is unique even if unseen

Tcks wants everything. His overindulgence results in the most unexpected outcome. His negotiations with the omnipotent Nanabush caricature the perpetual struggle with reality brought on by the fulfilling of desire. But it also more deftly outlines the influence of will on reality. On four separate occasions, the trickster asks for the colour of his feathers to be changed. In the end, the Crow, never satisfied, ends up bearing all colours at once, that is: black. “Everything ” becomes “nothing ”. This turn of events allows one to dig a little deeper into the trickster’s enigma, his continuous impulse towards a nature that is too full of possibilities, a reality that shatters clichés and prejudices. Against his will, but in the course of his own movement, the grotesque character makes the power of matter visible and presents it as a principle. Yet, wouldn’t it be possible for a greater conscience to emerge at the very end of the most pugnacious dissatisfaction?
